Okay ~ it's been 7 and a half months, and a lot has happened. So I deem this thread ready for *gasp!* a double-post. Most recent update on this highly-anticipated film's progress: www.ghibliworld.com/news.html#1701Apparently they're working extremely hard to get the watercolors done on schedule. There's also an interview from Miyazaki, with more details about what's in the movie, his approach, and his schedule: www.ghibliworld.com/news.html#1001And a new picture from the film! Wiki has a link to the official Japanese website: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ponyo_on_a_CliffApparently the Queen of Sweden got a sneak peek at the film. O.o

I think just the storyboards are in watercolor ~ the coloring is probably digital, now, or animating it would take forever. Not sure, though ~ that would be reallyreally beautiful if it were. My candidate for Miyazaki's next story (should he choose to do more): www.amazon.com/Princess-Academy-Shannon-Hale/dp/1582349932It has strong female main characters and a beautiful setting... should be a shoo-in. MY candidate: bookshop.blackwell.com/jsp/id/The_Pirate_and_the_Princess_Volume_1_The_Timelight_Stone/9781933164434VERY cool read! It was originally in Japanese, and when I read it, it had (kinda) anime-like drawings. It's a mix of Sci-Fi and Fantasy, and the main character is a girl named Yuri. She's the captain of a pirate ship. Another main character is the princess Noelia, or Noelle. It was a short read, but hey!

I am so looking forward to this next Miyazaki Ghibli film. <3 I like the theme song (although, it's only in background music of the YT interview..*sighs*) A boy and a girl fish. <3 <3 I'm not really a fan of such childhood friend oddity pairings but it should be good. And what's this? I haven't been to Ghibli World in awhile. I always go to nausicaa.net. Wow. O.o Goro's planning another film? Yee... His first film isn't so bad. Maybe the character interaction pacing is a little awkward but I like it. (Except, the beginning part makes me worry...)

^ Yay! Thanks, Chibi! ^__^ Alright, sorry about that! I'll stop talking about Earthsea after this and put spoiler tags in my last post. I actually have the movie DVD with english subs. Even before the DVD, I found the movie twice on Youtube. O.o That was crazy.
In terms of Ponyo, it's reasonable enough that Miyazaki named the official international title "Ponyo on the Cliff". Which was almost a direct translation of Gake no ue no Ponyo. Although, whenever I see that, I'll now literally think of a ponyo on a cliff!! o.o

I'm sorry, tg ~ one day I'll finally get to see Gedo senki. Meanwhile, how exciting ~ a release date and a trailer coming up for Ponyo: www.ghibliworld.com/news.html#0804www.ghibliworld.com/news.html#1104So, in less than a week we should be able to see the trailer. ^.^ I'm so happy ~ and glad that they're not going to show too much from the movie just in order to advertise it, but rather let the work speak for itself. edit: How could I have forgotten ~ the soundtrack cover image has also been released, and there is an excellent article on composer Joe Hisaishi, as well, whose preliminary music based on early images of the film is being used as the main platform for promotion this time around: www.ghibliworld.com/ponyo_image_album_review.html

Lots of new info on Ponyo is out: www.ghibliworld.com/news.htmlThere's the trailer if you haven't seen it yet, interviews, and talk of an artbook. I also found this quote interesting, since I've been trying to find out info, but not too much since I don't want to be spoiled (so I've been trying to read the website with my eyes half shut) : "This summer, you should watch Ponyo at the largest theatre possible near you. Forget reading any magazines, TV programs or TV-CM that comment or advertise it as much as you can. You must go to the theatre, pay the fee and sit on that seat without any prejudice or knowledge. As far as I am concerned, I eagerly desire to watch it again." www.ghibli.jp/ponyo/^ Main website has some screenshots.

Hey ~ Ponyo has been out for a month now, and it has already passed the 10-billion-yen point at the box office: (from www.ghibliworld.com/news.html )"Since last year's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End it is the first movie to exceed the 10 billion yen mark and for Ghibli the first since Howl’s Moving Castle. Compared to their previous releases, Ponyo’s 10-billion-in-one-month record is beyond that of Chihiro (25 days), though shorter than Howl’s (33 days) and Mononoke (43 days). Even in Ponyo’s 5th week of release its vigor doesn't drop down, not only attracting a wide range of people from kids to adults, but bringing a lot of second-time viewers to the Japanese theaters as well. Logically, Ponyo’s future expectations remain to be good. Distributor TOHO forecasts its number of viewers will exceed 10 million in August. Even more, after September it is expected to beat Hauru no Ugoku Shiro and Mononoke Hime as a megahit in the long run box office." Ponyo also has an Aug. 31 premiere date at the Venice Film Festival. Looking forward to seeing this movie ...someday.

That's great news! I don't remember where, but I had read that Ponyo didn't do so well in its opening week, but I guess it didn't lose any steam. Can't wait for this. Miyazaki just seems to get better and better with time - Ponyo should be spectacular.

Well, it apparently got a great reception at the Venice Film Festival this past weekend. Quotes: "Next to a over-5-minute standard ovation, critics were raving as well, currently leading the list in CIAK (La Mostra’s daily magazine) for winning the Golden Lion." www.ghibliworld.com/news.html"It's a rare animator who can produce work that regularly stands comparison with the world's best directors at a major European film festival. But the Japanese animation genius Hayao Miyazaki, a legend and a household name in his own country, is such a man. As we have come to expect, his hand-painted images are exquisite, and the film is a visual treat. Shapes shift, objects and characters assume new forms, breathtakingly. The draughtsmanship is jaw-dropping, and Miyzaki's ability to express extremes of emotion in his child characters without resorting to sentimentality or treacly music is remarkable. If Miyazaki were to win The Golden Lion for this animated classic, it would be a surprise -- but not a huge one." www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main.jhtml?xml=/arts/2008/08/31/bfmiyazaki131.xml"...the audience reception was the warmest of any film yet in the festival." entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/film/film_reviews/article4653020.eceSo a US release date is expected to be announced soon ~ the U.K. release date for Ponyo has apparently been set for April 3, 2009, according to IMDb.
