I think I love almost everything I've seen of Miyazaki's, but Whisper of the Heart was just so sweet for me. It was a nice "slice of life" piece.
Second, would be Spirited Away which was of course my first Miyazaki film.

^ I agree on "Whisper..." which is odd, because I don't usually go for the more realistic stuff. But I just loved the mundane surroundings in this one for some reason... So, I'm wondering if anyone knows where to find a link for Gedo Senki... apparently my internet research skills now suck. I can't find anything.

I like Princess Mononoke, but there wasn't enough romance for my taste. The end disappointed me. But thats his 2nd most romantic movie, and the ending was f***ing epic. I have not seen Monoke, so thanks for rubing in how good it was. Not the spoiler, just talking about how good it was.

I just read "Howl's Moving Castle" and "Castle in the Air" (the books, I didn't read the movie.) They were so sad. THe movies changed a lot. But whatever. I shall still love Howl's Moving Castle Miyazaki style! *pulls out Howl shrine* Yeah ~ I have to admit, I usually hate watching a movie adaptation first and then reading the book, but in this case, I was glad I did... that meant I got to picture Miyazaki's version of Howl all the way through the book. And the first time I saw Mononoke, I didn't understand the ending, really... it was only after I thought about it for a while that I came to terms with it, and now it is one of my favorite endings in any media, visual or written. How else do you tail off something so epic?

Mononoke spoilers I still dont get what dissapointing about Iron town having a battle with samurai, Eboshi and Jigo hunting down the forest spirit, Lord Okottu going insane, the forest spirit dying, giant evil foprest spirit of doom destroying everything. Its one of the best endings evah Not too mention its more romantic than most Miyazaki movies, so i dont get why everyone has a problem with the "lack" of romance.

There is such thing as too much romance. What did you want from them?!

Okay, U-turn... I'm not sure how we got 2 Miyazaki threads, but oh well. I have to confess to having never seen Nausicaä, but that's because I always wanted to read the manga first. I heard that Miyazaki spent 10+ years on it, and that the film only covers a fraction of the first part of the story. Anybody read it and seen it? I finally have to just bite the bullet and rent the film... I bought a piece of literary criticism that refers to it, and either I can't read it until I see Nausicaä, or I have to have the film spoiled for me. I don't think I can get my hands on the manga soon enough ~ I haven't even seen it available.

Laputa: Castle in the Sky ---> My first Ghibli Miyazaki film I've ever watched and still love it to this day. Unfortunately, I never saw the subbed version of this movie. I saw this movie in Taiwanese! Ahhhhhhh. And because it was dubbed in Taiwanese, not only could I not understand this, they changed some of the music in the movie from its original for I don't know what reasons. (Thankfully as I grew older, I bought a Laputa picture book from Kinokuniya so it helped me to understand better.) In the "escape from the government fortress" scene, they put in Knight Rider's theme song! >__< So, for many years, I thought that was part of the original until I saw the OST listing at wingsee.
So also, thanks to YouTube, I get to see the subbed version once in awhile and hear the right music. Phew. Since I have a lot of Miyazaki's work dubbed in Taiwanese (i.e. Kiki, Panda Go Panda, etc.), I fear that some of them also don't contain some of the original classic Joe Hisaishi work, but I don't really mind at the same time. Studio Ghibli rocks!
I wish I was small again when I went to the Ghibli Musuem in Japan. They had that giant Catbus stuffed animal that children can go into. (The wait to get into the musuem was rather long though, but worth it.)

UGGGG!!! Such a hard question. But when I saw that only one person had chosen Nausicaa, I had to pick it (Nausicaa was my first major obsession)

It's always so hard to pick a Miyzaki movie, isn't it? Recently I fell in love with "Howl's Moving Castle" but "Nausicaa" was so good...as was "Spirited Away"...hmm...to bad you can't vote for all of them...

Princess Mononoke was my favorite Miyazaki movie, but it is COMPLETELY overshadowed in comparison to the manga version of Nausicaa, which is one of the greatest mangas ever created! (and short too, so it is not like playing a never-ending game of "Gotta catch them all!"
Please for a love all things holy and unholy, find Nausicaa the manga and read it for your own good!
