Hmm, there isn't a Gundam thread here yet, so now there is! ;D
Which series do you like the most? Comments? Thoughts?
My personal favorites are Gundam Wing and the original Mobile Suit Gundam.

I am definately a fan of classic Gundam, Zeta, Turn A and even a bit of G gundam as it pokes fun at stereotypes. Wing is err, convoluted, even G gundam to me had a more balanced plot to it. It just had too many subplots by paving all the major storylines from the classic gundam era into one series, and the pretty boy factor didnt help a lot either. Gundam X, yuck I also dont like Gundam Seed, another remake of the classic gundam era.. yawn

Eva Unit 01 can rip apart RX-78-2 Gundam and then devour the remains.

I used to like Gundam but I hate how mostly all the fighting is in space and the is less fighting on earth..
Looking at the black space gets depressing but itz still cool I guess.

hhm I liked gundam wing, cause it was the first gundam series I watched.. and even though I partly have to agree with EK sunny on her comment over gundam wing I liked the story and the setting. the old uniforms where cool in my opinion for example.
I liked the gundams as well, heavy arms was awesome ^^
But they did lose me when quatra was going like:”ooh now I understand, heero is the heart of out of space” c’monn!! I liked the hole war thing and assassinations, etc.. but that with quatra was just a failed attempt on making gundam more mystical.. >_>
***********
I don't like gundam seed, I've seen a few episodes in japanese and my biggest let down was the animation. those gundams looked like toy bots. as if they where made of plastic.. also they went a bit overboard with the action, where previous gundam series had a nice balance between action and story seed primarily seemed to focus on the action.
PS I do admit that I've only seen a few episodes, but these where the things I noticed.

I used to watch Gundam Wing a little but the whole robot fighting thing just got boring to me.

I started out with Gundam Wing and the Endless Waltz OVA. After that, I proceeded with Gundam Seed but I stopped at the 25th episode only to watch G Gundam after that. I later watched Zeta Gundam (IMO better than Gundam Seed) and the Gundam 0080 OVA.
Gundam 0080 still remains one of my favourites (it was more focused to the plot and characters) but the mecha designs by Yutaka Izubuchi are neat! (I still like the shotgun wielding Kampfer).
A bit off topic here but I don't think the Eva Unit 01 is required to destroy the RX-78-2 Gundam since any of the mass produced Evas can pretty much rip it apart (add to the fact that the Gundam doesn't have anything that can penetrate the Eva's AT field).

I liked Seed pretty well since I never got to watch the original series. Seed Destiny is trash though and should burn... In honestly Wing is probably "better" than Destiny. I have to say that the 08th OVAs were the best. They more of a 'frontline' soldier feel to them rather than SUPERZ G@WNDUM PWNZ YOU most of the series are. Made me a total fan of the Gouf, Norris in the 08th showed what an ace pilot could do on the grown when facing off superior numbers and technology (though he ultimately lost ) Ok I will say there was 1 ep of Destiny i did like, it showed one of the super gundams getting owned by the Seed version of the Gouf ... of though course he got killed right afterward by one of the main heroes

There was a thread about it once...GH was kind enough to explain it to me...but I forgot most of it. I got confused in the series, which bots where the good guys and which you wanted to explode... Anyhow, I got F-91, the movie, it was pretty good. I guess it cuts through the layers and shortens it up a but, for n00bs like me to get it! (What was the gundam webside again?) I forgot if Mobile Suit Gundam is one of the earlier ones... I got a couple of the Chibi Gundam DVDs! ;D cute...of course, cheaply animated, for the wee ones! but fun!

Mobile Suit Gundam was the first Gundam series ever, which I have on DVD. And for the good and bad guys, it really depends on the series. Usually, the guys from the space colonies are the bad guys, and you ususally want them to die. www.gundamofficial.com/ (official website )

But definately Gundam is one of the best space drama/ giant mecha animes. The second best in my opinion is Macross/ Robotech. As for eva, I have no idea why people bring eva up in talks about gundam as eva and gundam are totally different universes.

I wouldn't really say that since both sides throughout the series (be it the colonies or earth) have their share of evil and despicable characters and factions. eg. Zeta Gundam: The Titans and a corrupt Earth Federation

^Yeah, there are exceptions to that rule, but what i'm saying that a lot of the bad guys are from outer space, wheather they were wronged by the Earth people or not. For example, the Principality of Zeon from Mobile Suit Gundam.
