That I can't really say - I still haven't seen the preview. I've been avoiding it thoroughly. I am hoping for some though, so I'm happy to hear any theories folks might be throwing out.

I liked the hug they shared, it really shows something between Katara and Aang, I dont know how to describe it.

@ana *hugs back* Squee! I didn't even think that anyone would notice I was away. I haven't been on for awhile, but thanks for remembering me! Heh..
@everyone Sorry, everyone, but I kind of need to get this off my chest: Could you please try not to ask what's up and say goodbye every time you get on?.. there's a lot of that cluttering the boards lately. C'mon, Kataangs, let's get in some good discussion here! (Sorry to the people who do say 'Hi' and 'Bye', but look back a couple of pages. Some pages are all full of nothing-posts)
So, on that note, what do you all think of the purple highlighting on Katara's face in the new commercial? A little random, I know, but I was having a discussion with my sister the other day. Is Aang dreaming? is he consciously thinking within the Avatar State? meditating? My personal favorite is the theory that Guru Patik touched his forehead, like he did to Appa's, and that he's seeing what Aang is thinking about. I don't know. I'm sure we won't know until the finale. But what do you think?

That theory just makes it seem that he truly is in love with Katara, not just some crush. I am sure the Guru can not just make Aang stop loving Katara besides like someone already said maybe he just can't stop his training just for her.

The thing if the episode proves my thoughts correct, he would have loved to continue his trainng, but he sensed danger was imminent, i dont know if he was able to sense it. I could understand the guru's warning about hi leaving his training early, but a possible life/death situation was taking place which i believe he hurried back to Ba Sing Se.

You were one of pioneer debaters! Agreed. All these non contributing posts are extremely annoying guys. I like your "Guru Patik is seeing what he thinking about" theory. It could very possibly be a dream. Everything was in a purple-ish light and the "huge Aang holding the little Aang" was rather weird. Also for discussion's sake: Do you think Aang and Katara "need" each other? If so, why?

I do not think that Katara and Zuko cave scene is so big anymore...

Agreed. All these non contributing posts are extremely annoying guys. Sorry. Unfortunately, everyone is talking about the trailer and I'm trying really hard to avoid spoilers. Just hearing about it secondhand is rather troubling.

It's the one word posts that turn the Sky Castle into a chatroom that annoy me. I can see where you're coming from there. I was trying to keep spoilers out here for people, like you and myself at first, who were avoiding the spoilers but it didn't work out that way. For non-spoilery discussion: Do you think Aang and Katara "need" each other? If so, why?

I agree ktscarlet. (about the scene)
@ana- Heehee. Thanks. P.S. Love your icon. ;D
As a response to Ana's question, I would agree to a measured amount. The two need each other just as much as you can need another person. Ahem. It's not quite as essential as air or water (haha sort of semi-pun..get it? Haha? Nevermind..) , but they do seem to rely on one another a lot.
However, I would say that this is more the case with Aang than it is with Katara. Katara seems to get along well on her own, but poor, poor Aang...He has lost everyone he knew from his 'first life' except Bumi and Appa. He is twelve years old and is expected to save the world and battle a Firebending Master and head of a country. It doesn't seem fair, does it? The poor kid needs all the help he can get, and he find it in Katara. Katara is soothing, like her natural element. She is his teacher, but also his friend. We see that Aang has finally made that step to finalizing his affections to Katara. He tries to tell her, and when she is away, he openly admits to someone that he has just met that he loves her. Aang relies on Katara emotionally, and sometimes he relies on her to save him in other ways. Aang needs Katara. Detachment from her could certainly disrupt his concentration more than his affections for her.
Katara, however, is another matter. She is an independant and outspoken person, as we see in the Waterbending Master and her conflict with Master Pakku. However, she is also a caring person with a loving disposition. It is this balance between strength and softness that makes her one of the most stable characters in the series. She is a pillar for Aang, and often others, to lean on. We know that Katara has a measure of dependency on Aang, but mostly, the reason she depends on him is because she likes having him around. Even if she is not romantically attracted to him, he is still one of her best friends in the world. We have seen so many examples of Aang falling into Katara's arms or Katara hugging Aang when he needs her. She cares for him in a way that is not openly romantic, yet not quite platonic. We have yet to see if her interest will develop romantically, although I could argue on that.
So in short, Aang and Katara do depend on each other. In my opinion, anyway.

I hope you all don't mind if I post a reply I wrote up to something in the Zutara forum. I had a crush on my Russian teacher, but I'm pretty silent about that. But yah you're right, he doesn't think of her as a mother, more as a lover. But I don't understand why his timings are so terrible to tell Katara how he feels about her. It's because if he told her too early on it would take away the dramatic effect. That's also the reason I don't think it will be resolved in the upcoming finale one way or another. Let's say he does "give up" on loving Katara to try and master the Avatar State - he says "I'll try" which to me hardly indicates a great deal of certainty on his part. I could try to levitate boulders with my brain but that doesn't mean I'd be able to succeed at it. But assuming for a moment that he does... We've got an entire season (two if they've approved a fourth season). We've yet to see the status quo of any character remain intact from the end of one season to the end of the next. It's fairly safe to say that either Aang will try to master the Avatar State and FAIL (because if he mastered it, beating the Fire Nation would come entirely too soon to be next season's dramatic finale) or else something will happen and he won't master the Avatar State.

If it one thing thats been keeping Aang from going off the Richter scale in the Avatar State, its Katara. Go back to "The Desert", while everyone ran off in fear for their lives, Katara was the only that stayed right in the heart of danger, and defied the risks that were present while Aang was livid. Why did she stay despite the danger, it was her love and concern for him that let her stay by him. Because she saw Aang, not the Avatar suffering in anguish. When she grabbed Aangs wrist and and he turned on her in a split second, i wouldnt have second guessed that he more than likely he would have hurt her because he looked at her with pure hatred and rage in his eyes, but it was broken by love, she stepped inside the raging whirlwind, to pull him out of it, he let her get near him, because of the connection between them.

Great point, Growly. I don't think that Katara is Aang's problem in mastering anything. I also don't think that we'll get to see Aang's confession any time soon, either.
Aang's problem is probably something deep, like long-seated subconscious guilt for leaving the Air Temple or something. ;D
EDIT: I also agree with you, power. Like I said, I think Katara is more of a pillar to Aang than the Avatar State will ever be. He dislikes the Avatar State because he's so peaceful in nature, as opposed to the raw destructive power of the Avatar State.
All right, everyone, I think I'm off to bed. I woke up early this morning, so.. Good Night!

In short I just think of Katara and Aang as Yin and Yang they balance eachother and support eachother.
