The Zutara Encampment had been a place for Zutarians worldwide to train and fight in defense of their beloved ship. Tonight it looked nothing like its normal barracks. Paper latterns of every possible color hung from every post. Streamers twisted and curled through the air connecting the posts into a large circular opening. Balloons scattered the field of tables and chairs set up for a celebration that no one really knew much about.
There was a large rectangular table set up in the center with a huge bowl set upon it that might have been made of crystal - or perhaps even skillfully manipulated ice. Lingering nearby, Sokka was dressed in uncomfortably hot formal gear and holding a tray that tilted precariously in one hand while he tugged at the collar of his shirt.
"I still don't see how we got talked into this," He grumbled, his blue eyes flitting back and forth at the empty room. "I mean everyone else gets to dance and enjoy the refreshments and we're stuck handing out snacks!"
He eyed the meat slices on his tray and reached for one in his sneakiest manner. A thump across the hand stopped him short. "Ow!"
That's for the guests." This from Toph, who hadn't bothered with anything more elaborate than her normal outfit.
Sokka made a face at her, knowing she wouldn't see it but immediately putting on an innocent look anyway when her head tilted a little.
"And you, Twinkle toes! Stop fooling around with the lemur and get your tray! It's almost time for the people to arrive."
"Don't be so hard on them," Despite her rebuking words, there was a hint of laughter in Katara's voice that made Sokka scowl.
Ambassador GUG looked around the field. The sweat beaded up on her forehead and dripped to her brow. "Is that everything Kalidasa, Godhunter?"
A soft chuckle came from the one currently balanced on a ladder and hanging the last of the balloons. He tilted his head and his floppy, formless hat slid down over his eyes.
"I believe so GUG." Kalidasa replied, almost too formally for her liking. "I do not think there is one single thing left to set up, cook, clean or have you harp upon for the next 10 minutes until the guests arrive."
"I just want everything to be perfect for her." GUG sighed.
"Well that's just about it for the decorations!" He gave an exaggerated thumbs-up before hopping down. The ladder clattered to the ground and he gave GUG an innocent smile.
Godhunter walked over, stopping to look at the fallen ladder. "Looks good people. She'll like it, I can garuntee that".
"So, are we going to get this party started then?" Kalidasa asked as he unslung his mandolin and strummed a few notes."I've even got some entertainment set up for when we have dancing later. Some old friends of mine owed me a few favours."
"So if everything is set up I'll set up the cactus juice and call our guest of honor out" Godhunter said as he walked to the edge of the camp, a large horn in his right hand.
After a mighty blow he spoke to the crowd that gathered. "Friends and enemies, today we are gathered for a very special occassion, it is the birthday of one of our greats."
At this point Godhunter took a pause to build up some drama. Scaning the faces he let out the name in an almost yell "Awapuhi!"
