Name: Horyo
Age: 28 (truly 26)
Gender: Male
Bender: Waterbending--Above Average, pre-stages of advance, but not master or advanced.
Nation: Water Tribes-Northern
Appearence: His hair is a dark brown--black almost--messy and uncombed short clumps except for the small ponytail on the back of his head. Horyo has dark blue eyes, matching the cold depths of the ocean. His skin is a light tan, he acquired this from traveling. He has a lean structure about 5'10'', with some body fat not visible or shown through clothing, and small muscles lined his body, not developed fully (He weighs 145 lbs.). He has wide lips, usually large when smiling. He generally holds a dissatisfied look, uninterested in the surroundings.
In the cold wintertime, he wears a large blue parka, small furry fluffs of white lined the ends. In front of the parka was a water tribe symbol, and on back was his waterbending symbol.
During casual times when cold was hardly an issue, he wore a short-sleeved blue tunic, and a dark blue sash on his waist. His pants were roomy and also had the same color as the sash. He has black gauntlents at the end of his forearms, they were made of leather. His shoes were small leather wears, black and able for any form of travel.
Personality: Horyo is reserved and calm, an air of lazines usually tugged at people near him. In normal matters and affairs he shrugs it off, but when it came to matters of interest, like bending--or girls--Horyo was always sharp and alert. To his dismay, he is successful in only one of those two choices. When motivated or inspired, Horyo can become excited an perform certain tasks with very great vigor and spirit. In fights, which he usually avoids, he works on using the opponent's body against them, somehow causing them to meet their own demise, usually uninterested in regular blasts of water, he would try to use the water to toy with his opponent's body: externally, he'd wrap his opponents in water and twist them around sometimes even tossing them. These instances only occur if he feels that the opponents are too weak. In other cases, Horyo would use waterbending to fend off the enemy, then try to disable them in large shafts of ice, before doing anything rash and idiotic. He found out that when a bird falls, its flocks will come.
He is also very loud-mouthed, and horrible at keeping secrets: one time he told an engaged girl that her husband had seen and is still seeing other women. She ended up besting her fiance and him in waterbending. Contrarily he avoids trying to get involved in other people's affairs, but feels it is best when it may benefit him or when he is hindered in some way by this; he avoids in order to avoid going through a long process of sorting it out for his mentality is getting things over quickly before he loses interest. Though not as reliable when it comes to doing something: he weighs the benefits and costs, Horyo is a loyal comrade and trustworthy friend.
History: Before his birth his mother had a miscarriage with another child. She suffered great pains two years before giving him birth and they believed that their child had simply "stayed in" so they added two years to his birth age. Born in the Northern Water Tribe to a noble family, he was immediately raised to become a warrior like his father. But his mother hoped that he would be a bender, and already started to arrange plans for his years ahead. At the age of eight, he began to show signs of waterbending-capabilities, moving a small whisp of water around in a puddle. He was immediately brought to Pakku who looked at him and approved he could be a studnet--in two years.
In those two years, he was taught how to fight, bender or not, his father ensured that he would be a mighty warrior. His mother, a healer, taught him how to move water--even she knew the basics. He did so and gradually improved from his crude movements. His actions became smoother and his waterbending became more fluid. They brought him to Pakku's class and he was tested instantly.
Horyo had not been the only one there to be tested; many others stood in fear or excitement for their tests.
Unfortunately, he failed the tests presented and felt that waterbending was not his forte. His father was delighted that he would have more time for warrior training with his son.
His mother never gave up though, as she constantly instructed him to waterbend. She began to realize that she could teach him healing through the method of herbs and medicines, although frowned on by culture, as it was a woman's place, if he learned herbs he would be able to survive almost any thing.
As a firm supporter of tradition and culture, his father rejected his healing and waterbending, and grew intent on sending him away to Warrior training. However, Horyo enjoyed his bending so much that he had to keep working at it.
He also has a strong affinity for flirting with girls. He enjoys the attention and although he isn't boastful, tends to let his mouth run too much.
During the Siege of the Northern Water Tribe, Horyo prepared for a mission to take down the Great Admiral of the Fire Navy. His group was assigned to help their leader, Hahn, sneak on board and combat. After subduing many fire soldiers, they waited for Hahn's successful return. Some water tribe soldiers on the mission fled exclaiming that the mission was a failure.
Soon Fire soldiers began to appear and they fought. Unfortunately only few escaped, and Horyo was the lucky one among those few. They fled back to the Water Tribe City before the Fire Navy would arrive. Horyo using his incomplete medical knowledge, learning partially from his mother helped alleviate the pains in the wounds of a few allies. It was basic first aid really, stoppling the flow of blood by elevation and compression.
The danger did not end, as the Fire Navy broke through the next day. Horyo fended off as many as possible using a mixture of water bending and warrior training. The moon ran red and he lost his waterbending abilities, so he used his fighting skills to defend the North. He barely fended off a group of soldiers from innocent Civilians and witnessed a most spectacular event: The Ocean Spirit Rose and decimated the Fire Navy.
A few weeks later of restructuring the Water Tribes, Horyo resumed formal training at Pakku's school. He was fierce and determined to succeed and he gained better control of his bending.
Through the past years of training and battling, Horyo's mind also sharpened as he began to memorize countries and scrolls and of the like. At age 28, he unofficially graduated Pakku's school, and that there was more to learn, but not in the North; he mastered the basics and the intermediate level skills. He did want to go to the Southern Water Tribes with his teacher, however, because he wished to adapt his bending along the way, before setting out for his own journey. He was planning on leaving the North to learn more about the world, his curiosity sparked from readings. He traveled to the South with Kizu, his best friend.
At first his father disapproved but he convinced him that he was going to learn new ways of fighting. His mother supported his leave with sadness, but happiness as well.
He accepted this, and a reward for his work: A few scrolls on mastering Northern Style Waterbending.
From his father he recieved a Machette and a water tribe club.
From his mother: A map of the world and an elastic but tight waterskin--custom-made.
With this he set out on his journey around the world to discover the new wonders.
