Hello all! Here is my oneshot. Maybe I'lll do another WiaM though. Hopefully it won't be pushed back and forgotten like my last one, Zuko's Journal Entry.
So, here's all the blahblah stuff I have to say:
Name: Wrapped in a Moment: Midnight Magic
Rating: PG
Shipping: Toko
Notes: This is placed at the Western Air Temple, so there are spoilers. Also, I don't want to hear basd comments like, "OMG I hate toko zutara rox". Ehem, IF YOU HATE TOKO THEN WHYDIDYA READ THIS?! 'Nuff said.
Story:
Wrapped in a Moment: Midnight Magic
The wind barely stirred in the gardens as I tossed and turned in my sleep. I was having a nightmare, in which the tortured of my friends rang out clearly, but I was glued to the ground. With a final shake, I woke up to utter silence. Remembering the voices in my dreams, it took me a moment to realize something was pressing on the end of my bed.
I took in a sharp breath of panic and kicked with both of my feet. The thing at the end of the bed crashed to the ground, giving a loud “ow!” of surprise and pain.
“Zuko!” I gasped, ripping back the covers of my bed. I knelt on the floor next to him, grabbing his arm.
“S’okay,” he muttered. I felt him sit up next to me, and I dropped his arm. “Why the heck did you kick me? Now I’m gonna be aching all week.” His tone was questioning, and I closed my eyes in anger.
“You stupid!” I yelled, bopping him over the head with my left fist. “Why the heck were you in my room, let alone lying on my bed? Sokka hasn’t even come to annoy me yet, so it has to be really early! You thought you could come in here and watch me sleep? You… complete sicko!” My cheeks felt hot with anger and embarrassment.
“Fine! Whatever!” Zuko replied angrily. “I just wanted to ask you something, but if that’s the way you feel I’ll go!” I felt him get up into a standing position and head for the door.
Curiosity suddenly got the best of me, and I called to Zuko is a softer tone, “What did you want to talk about?” My cheeks still felt hot, but it wasn’t anger that was keeping them that way.
As soon as I asked him that, I felt faster vibrations issuing from his heart. The heart felt like it was doing a dance containing skips and weird jumps of joy in perfect unison with my own heart.
“Maybe… he shares my feelings,” I murmured hopefully, too softly for him to hear.
“Um…” Zuko started, his voice brimming with nervousness. “ I just w-wanted to know… how you see me.” Suddenly, he realized his mistake. “ I mean, uh-”
“It’s okay.” I gave a small, shaky laugh. “I get it. Well, I…” My heart gave a couple more skips. “I guess I think of you as a Fire Nation prince who suddenly decided to go insane and help the Avatar save the world.”
“Really?” Zuko’s tone was happy. “Well, I see you as the Avatar’s nosy Earthbending teacher who tried to sneak up on me in the middle of the night, got her feet burned, then threw rocks at me as I tried to apologize.” His gentle footsteps came back towards me, and I felt him kneel down on the cold floor right next to me.
I stuck my tongue out at him. “I still haven’t forgiven you for that!” I teased, bopping him on the head again. “And jeez, did you really have to wake me up during the early hours just to find out what I thought of you? Selfish boy.”
“But seriously…” Zuko’s tone became quieter. “Do you really think of me like that? Please, tell the truth.” He gently placed his warm hand on mine, and I winced.
“I…” I started, my heart beating a mile a minute. Suddenly, the world burst into light, and my blindness was gone. Instead of black, I saw a handsome teenager with a red scar across his right eye and a mop of dark hair. His face was lit up by the full moon. Zuko looked shocked as he saw my eyes become normal, and I reached out a shaking hand towards his face. The minute my cool hand touched Zuko’s scar, my sight faded, my hand dropped, and the world became a stretch of black again.
I felt like crying. The world was so beautiful. Zuko… he was so pretty. I wanted to hold that image in my mind forever, that smiling, handsome face with glittering amber eyes. I leaned my head on Zuko’s shoulder in grief, and he turned me around and put his arms around me.
Tilting my head back, I whispered, “Thanks.” There was no answer, and I knew there wouldn’t be. Something magical had happened, something beyond my imagination, and the least I could do was give my gratitude to the silence.
As tears began to cascade down my cheeks, Zuko pulled me in tighter. The utter silence was only broken by my short sobs and my gasp of, “I love you.” I felt Zuko nod his head, and whisper back, “I love you too.”
There we sat for so much longer, staring into the blackness, wrapped in a moment that would never end.
Thank you all!
