Then he was Gone
Katara walked across the spacious room and towards the door. Her face was hard, but her eyes were filled with pain and regret. Sokka looked up at her.
"Today's the day, isn't it? I can't believe it's been a year since we beat the Fire Nation and-"
"I don't want to talk about it Sokka!" Katara shouted and ran out of the room with watery eyes. Toph looked over to where Sokka was sitting with a pitying look on her face. Her blank eyes closed and she sighed.
"Just give her some time, Sokka. It's been hard for her this past year. It's been hard for all of us. We all miss him."
"Yeah, you're probably right," he replied.
The sun was beginning to set. Katara had gone off to the marketplace. She bought two candles and a bouquet of flowers. The flowers were a mix of roses and panda lilies. She then headed for a field on the outskirts of the city. No one was there. "Perfect," she said to herself. She sat down on the soft, green grass.
In front of her, Katara place the bouquet of flowers. She then placed a candle on each side of the bouquet. Pulling out spark rocks from her pocket, she lit each candle silently. She stared at them silently and somberly. Then, Katara looked at the memorial in front of her. She wished he was there to comfort her, like he always used to be, but he was never coming back. Nothing would change that.
Katara missed him terribly. He hadn't deserved to die. He was young, with his whole life ahead of him. Now, he was gone. She would never see him again, never hear his voice. Tears began to flow fro Katara's crystal blue eyes. She wiped her eyes and smiled. Katara knew he wouldn't want her to cry. After all, he always said that death was only the beginning. She just couldn't help it.
He had died fighting. He stood up for what he believed, no matter what the cost, or how much people discouraged him. He had overthrown the Fire Lord, saving the people he loved and cared for. His injuries had been too great, and weren't able to be healed. He had died in her arms. His last words to her were, "I love you." "I love you too," she had replied just before his head fell limp. She kept trying to wake up, telling herself it was just a bad dream. This was no dream, and the truth slowly sunk in. He was gone, and wasn't coming back for her.
Tears fell freely now, creating small pools on Katara's cheeks. She didn't notice the person behind her. They placed a hand on her shoulder and said, "I miss him too."
Katara turned around and replied, "I know Aang, me too." As the four friends walked away, Katara stole one last glance at the memorial.
In memory of Zuko,

Prince of the Fire Nation
And heir to the throne.
He died defending his Country,
