From what I've noticed, more males like Kataang because they can connect with Aang. I would say it's more because most males who are interested in shipping don't have much in common with someone like Zuko. Zutara is like high school - where girls are only interested in "hot" guys and the definition of hot is usually angry, angsty, etc. In real life a lot of women like the "bad boy" type, especially when they're in their teens. Kataang is a ship that favors the geeks, the oh-so-painfully ordinary guys who couldn't get a date with a girl to save their lives just because they're not an angry loner or a musclebound jock. Kataang is the ship for the everyman - and in some degree it provides a sense of vindication. Whenever the nice guy, the one who has always fallen into the "just a friend" category finally gets his happy ending, it's a reminder that maybe the entirety of the female sex doesn't overlook the good qualities of a guy just because he's not the smoldering bad boy sex god. Unfortunately, it usually works out in the favor of said bad boy types - more's the pity.

I agree the hot a$$holes get the girls until we in our late twenty early thirty's when the girls finally had enough of being treated like dirt. Then the nice guy who was always there always supportive and the best friend gets noticed. Then the nice guy is so desperate he goes out with the girl who treated him like dirt just a short time ago. Sadly we nice guys are screwed when it comes relationships and love in general.

We have to take in regard that the majority of the fandom is infact female. There are very few males in here and the majority are not even interested in shipping. Typical for guys, I guess. But what can we say, their more interested in the action of the show rather than who gets with who. Ofcourse this can't be applicable for all guys seeing as how we do have male shippers but as we can see their the minority. Zutara is like high school - where girls are only interested in "hot" guys and the definition of hot is usually angry, angsty, etc. In real life a lot of women like the "bad boy" type, especially when they're in their teens. ...it's a reminder that maybe the entirety of the female sex doesn't overlook the good qualities of a guy just because he's not the smoldering bad boy sex god. "Bad boy?" "Sex God?!" Wait who are you talking about here, Jet because Zuko does not meet these measures-especially not in the date scene[referring to his awkward date with Jin]. Infact, if we go back to the oh so stereotypical highschool profile, Zuko would be that outcast who although has a powerful/strong aura about him doesn't really want to socialize with you and you don't want to socialize with them! The lost soul wandering about the school halls not knowing who he is and why he's even there, in many ways. Zuko's just a good guy with the wrong head! He has a heart and he's been taught better than this, but alas he doesn't know what he wants and is vulnerable to go in an given direction. I dunno about you but that does not scream, "woo-hoo, SEXY!11" Infact, the very person who fits the profile you just mentioned is Jet. He's bold, heroic, and has a headstrong reslove. Your typical Robin Hood who lives in a tree house-how dreamy What damsel wouldn't want to be rescued by this handsome rebel who fights with hookswords! This is who I feel your trying to describe.

It's no good to argue with me on this matter because you're preaching to the choir - I personally think Zuko would be a loser when it came to dealing with the opposite sex. But if you look at a lot of the Zutara fanfiction out there, there is a lot more of it portraying him as the "sex god" or "bad boy" than the socially inept emo he really is. I would like to point out that - at least in my school - an angry loner/outcast type will still get far more attention from those of the female persuasion than a friendly computer geek or a clumsy nerd type guy. Whether they approach someone like that or not, they will be aware of him in the masculine sense as opposed to lumping him in with the geeky outcasts who have essentially been stripped of their "male" status and might as well be eunuchs where teenage girls are concerned.

Yea,Zuko in fanfiction/fanart is made to look like the ultimate man. Completely opposite of what he really is in the show. Yes he is muscular and older, but he is nothing like how Feng Shui described Jet as,who is basically confident,Zuko has emotional issues he needs resolve and maybe then he can live up to the fandoms "idea" of how he should be. And as a nice guy myself, we finish last in everything. Aang gives us hope that we can come through and get the girl of our dreams.

But if you look at a lot of the Zutara fanfiction out there, there is a lot more of it portraying him as the "sex god" or "bad boy" than the socially inept emo he really is. Well then geer me toward this choir and I would gladly preech to them too Why do you think I AVOID fanfiction at all cost. It's come to the point where people are writing about their dillusional fantasy rather than the actual story or characters themselves. I say leave the writing to to team avatar for they do it best. Besides, it's not like all Zutarians have written something trashy. Some may be out of their mind but there are some really good Zutarian writers out there who are unfortunately being looked upon as bad writer for some fool out their who doesn't know what a good story is. These people deserve the spotlight, respect and recognition if you ask me. LOL...I agree. Zuko is a complete loser when it comes to the opposite sex. He and Aang have that in common without even knowing it! Well that's your school just as mine is mine. The outcast is labeled the outcast for a reason. He doesn't fit in with what the crowd thinks is norm and so is usually alone and likes being so or atleast puts up the facade that he does. Not for anything but some nerds could be hawt if they only wished to be :3 They don't have to be the "bad boy" or the "sex god" cause that isn't what a girl is looking for in a guy in the first place. Well at least not the girl with the right head on her shoulders! If your really into the girl who hikes her skirt up for your pleasure than there's something wrong with you, LOL. As a girl myself, I would have to say if only if the nerd demonstrated more confidence and wouldn't be so reserved in the things he does than he could the girls. Teach me how to get to level sixty in the latest video game with the latest cheat codes and I'll love you forever seeing how I suk at them. Tell me the constellations and their names with your profound knowledge of them under the starlight and you'd be my Romeo. Dungeons and Dragons may not be hawt but with just the two of us it just could be LOL! Use your creativity alongside with your super powered nogin and you'll just be the next hottest thing

I think the reason why Zuko is many times believed to be "OMG! Hawt!" or a sex-god is because quite frankly, I think a vast majority of fans misinterpret his character.
I always think of Zuko being sort of the shy guy at a dance who can't figure out what to do in order to get a gal to notice him. He just strikes me as that kind of fellow.
And I don't see Aang being nearly as dorky as Zuko in the opposite sex department. Oh he can be a dork, but he has tried to tell the girl he likes how he feels, but that pesky Sokka has messed it up a few times.

From what I've noticed, more males like Kataang because they can connect with Aang. While exceptions do not necessarily disprove generalizations, I have a very hard time connecting with Aang's character. At times, he is just so incredibly annoying and grates my nerves like almost no other character. When Aang landed on Kyoshi island, he spent a chunk of his time impressing girls with his airbending skills. Aang may not have initiated anything too much with Katara (confessions), but by no means is he awkward around women. Zuko on the other hand...

You tell 'em Amira! Really? I always thought of Zuko as the guy who doesn't even go to the school dance in the first place, that is until he's dragged by his caring uncle who just found out about the dance in the latest PTSO meeting and set him up on a date without his consent! LOL...yup. The guy sitting in the table throughout the entire party after only one dance and ditching his date soon after is the kind of guy he strikes me as. Late bloomer. But the late bloomers somehow always manage to surpass us all in the end don't they I luv Sokka Aang's way bolder than Zuko in the ladies department but he pales in comparison to Jet or the master himself-cues Sokka-LOL! However, he's not all too knowing either. He's oblivious to when the girl has the hots for him as his case was with Meng and when the time is ripe he manages to screw things up just fine by himself. Aang: I would rather kiss you than die! Very smooth Aang -.-

But he did try to fix the situation. The poor boy was suddenly confronted with "OMG! The girl I like wants to kiss me! Me! Aang!"
The Tale of Aang book I think sums up Aang's reaction pretty well:
Uh...did I just hear her right? Katara and me, kiss? Katara wants to kiss me? Almost since the moment I met her I've dreamed of kissing her. Did she really say that?"Us, kissing?" I need to be sure I actually heard her right.
"See, that was a crazy idea," she said quickly.
This was going to be the best day of my life! I can't move, breathe, or smile, but I've never been more excited in my life! I think I may pass out...

LOL,that is too funny,I've got to read those books now. Aang is definitely more of the ladies man than Zuko is. If Zuko did something like that, it would have to be Iroh's idea,he couldn't possibly come up with that on his own.

...now I NEED that book. Need with such a neediness it sort of scares me. Oh, yes, Kataang, 15. Technically, I've loved that pairing since I first watched 'Warriors of Kyoshi' which was probably about two or three years ago. Gh, I'm bad with time. Okay, I fit into the 'dateless loser' category, so I can sympathize with Aang. But, curiously, both of my best friends are Kataangs as well, and one of them is actually quite active in the dating world. I'm also a Jinko, Sukka, and a Wuroh . I actually like all of the Avatar characters. I haven't encountered a single one I said, "GOD, get off the screen!" What's really enjoyable about Avatar is that every character has some redeeming quality. True, Zuko whines and angsts, but he also has moments of valor and gentleness (ie, various conversations with Iroh, that fountain scene with Jin, the controversial Crystal Catacombs scene, etc). Aang, while he's annoying when he gets really ticked off and is dead focused on one goal to the expense of everyone else (THEDESERT*coughcough*), he's great the rest of the time. And, yeah, Kataang art is severely lacking in many cases I've encountered...and after reading the fifty-hundreth fluff-fic, you get a little sick of Kataang fandom. [/bitterness] Kataang. OTP. Yay!

Katara is largely misinterpreted in fandom; she is made out to be kind of a promiscuous person who jumps on every boy. In my opinion, she should be interpreted as an ordinary girl, one who has had crushes and has been heartbroken, such as with Jetara and KataraxHaru, and who eventually falls in love but is a bit too shy to say it. She really is a caring person. Aang is a lot like Katara in a way, but kind of is a bit shy, not wanting to reveal his feelings too soon. Kataang reminds me of myself; I'm a 14 year old highschooler and I don't really reveal my feelings. It touches me as emotional and realistic in a way that other ships don't.

Yay![/quote] I don't know why it's always portrayed as "fluff" in fanfiction. I've always thought Kataang had a lot of possibility for a pairing in a darkfic like the one I've been wanting to work on..
