But he did try to fix the situation. The poor boy was suddenly confronted with "OMG! The girl I like wants to kiss me! Me! Aang!" The Tale of Aang book I think sums up Aang's reaction pretty well: Uh...did I just hear her right? Katara and me, kiss? Katara wants to kiss me? Almost since the moment I met her I've dreamed of kissing her. Did she really say that?"Us, kissing?" I need to be sure I actually heard her right.
"See, that was a crazy idea," she said quickly.
This was going to be the best day of my life! I can't move, breathe, or smile, but I've never been more excited in my life! I think I may pass out...
...now I NEED that book. Need with such a neediness it sort of scares me. Oh, yes, Kataang, 15. Technically, I've loved that pairing since I first watched 'Warriors of Kyoshi' which was probably about two or three years ago. Gh, I'm bad with time. Okay, I fit into the 'dateless loser' category, so I can sympathize with Aang. But, curiously, both of my best friends are Kataangs as well, and one of them is actually quite active in the dating world. I'm also a Jinko, Sukka, and a Wuroh . I actually like all of the Avatar characters. I haven't encountered a single one I said, "GOD, get off the screen!" What's really enjoyable about Avatar is that every character has some redeeming quality. True, Zuko whines and angsts, but he also has moments of valor and gentleness (ie, various conversations with Iroh, that fountain scene with Jin, the controversial Crystal Catacombs scene, etc). Aang, while he's annoying when he gets really ticked off and is dead focused on one goal to the expense of everyone else (THEDESERT*coughcough*), he's great the rest of the time. And, yeah, Kataang art is severely lacking in many cases I've encountered...and after reading the fifty-hundreth fluff-fic, you get a little sick of Kataang fandom. [/bitterness] Kataang. OTP. Yay! Yes, I NEED that book now. Hey! What does being dateless have to do with Kataang? I don't count though, I've never had a date in my life. (I've had some chances to, but they've never been a girl I like, or better yet, my crush) Maybe Aang is dorky, but I don't see him as a dateless teenager.

I kinda get where the wole Aang inspires the "dateless man to finally get the girl of his dreams" but it's not like Aang was a hopeless romantic man to begin with. He's just a kid! Okay, so he's technically 112 years old but he has the body and spirit of a youth, enough said. I'm well aware that the youth is growing up pretty fast for all the wrong reasons, but I highly doubt these kids are finding true love at such a young age-perhaps not in our society and era. Highschool sweethearts do exist but Aang's not even at the age where'd he'd be going to face the dreaded 4 years of d00m in his life, lol!
He's still a kid at heart and mind so he should spend his time wisely enjoying that has been stripped away from him when we was originally 12 years old to begin with. He's been given a second chance to change the world, save it, and well be a kid! He should take it rather than get involved into romances and relationships which no matter how sweet or fluffly or dark or dramatic they are are still confusing to one so young.

Hey, if I found love I wouldn't care what age I was I'd go for it! Plus, romance doesn't destroy your childhood. You have to be mature, but if they're in love I'm sure Katara'd ignore any needs he has to be a child. And once you've grown up (I think he already has.) there's not much you can do to go back. Not that it's even a bad thing!

Not that it's even a bad thing! Well then that's you. I'm still very young and I'm not going to risk chasing after love at such a dangerous age. Family, studies, and duty come first my folks always say! Besides even older who knows if this is true love? Who knows what else is out there before I choose to settle down. Who am I to judge what true love is. Meh, I'll see when I get their and trust me I'm planning to enjoy my youth before it slips away... I wasn't even saying it was a bad thing. You misunderstood me perhaps. Finding love is a beautiful thing as an adult. At the youthful age of 12, although mature, don't you think you'd still want to enjoy it while it lasts? He's only getting older you know and once his childhood is gone there's only so much you can do without hurting yourself xD XD XD Teenage years are full of dating anyways You might as well be a kid and have fun before Aang turns to Aangst lol.

Maybe in our world. However this is the Avatar World. We have 14 year olds threatening grown men (Azula), 14 and 15 year olds running around the planet nearly getting killed or injured on a day to day basis (Katara and Sokka), we have a 12 year old who even if told at the right age of 16 is expected to be a world leader. The age of marriage for the northern water tribe is 16. These are not kids who act like kids today in many ways. And whether they've grown up too fast or not, its happened.
Unfortunately for Aang, while his fun-loving, carefree personality will never be taken from him, he will never be a child again. Once the war is ended, he will not be allowed or expected to put things aside to be a kid. I think by the end of the series we will see a young man - not a child - possessing a capacity for fun, love, and the greatness he represents.

I don't read much fic but I think Kataang has a lot of possibilities for drama and the like so I'm disappointed that. it's labeled/written as pure fluff. Anyways, I'm a 15 year old Kataang. With their strong devotion to each other, personalties that mesh well, etc. it clicks for me like other pairings don't.

Funny thing: classically, the Avatar (according to actual legend) is usually hitched about the age he is now. Some info I picked up at my last forum. I'm not really asking for true love at this point, all I'm asking is for Katara to atleast REALIZE how Aang feels about her.

Funny thing: classically, the Avatar (according to actual legend) is usually hitched about the age he is now. Some info I picked up at my last forum. Classically? Do you mean in the real world or in the Ava world because Never have I seen an instance where it was said the Avatar should be married at the age of 12. Perhaps there are girls like Meng and Koko who are perked on keeping Aang for themself at such a young age xD but still nothing has led us to beleive that Aang should be consider getting married. But if it's the real world you're talking about I'm sorry to say this isn't the case either. The Avatar is an inspiration from the Dalai Lama who is considered to be the soul of the people who worship him. The 14th Dalai Lama in particular can be an inspiration to Aang's very character. A youth at heart even at his age, like Aang he was a refugee himself having to flee his home at a young age and having to bring peace in such a chaos stricken world at the time. This was precisely when Communist China took over the Monks monastary's and in the end destroyed the majority them-only leaving 13- and almost wiping the Monk population out. He like the Avatar had to go through the opening of the chakra's and become the great diety, although he prefers to be called a humble teacher that he is today. The Dalai lama's don't marry. There was only an occasion of one and lets just say he didn't have a happy ending. I'd be more than happy to post his tale up if you'd want a little proof, but I'm very curious to hear where you heard the Avatar is actually "hitched" at his age :/ Maybe in our world. True. Very true. However, isn't this yet another bad habit which Aang is trying to correct, in a way. There have been so many kids who have been forced to grow up and face tragedy and responsibilities so soon. Aang barely gets break but he always finds a time to have a mini-vaction. All work and no play makes one a bitter kid and later on a bitter adult. By introducing the idea of fun back to the world, Aang is changing the world little by little one step at a time. Of course, when it's time to get down to it he eventually-after a few mistakes-gets the hangs of things. Lately he's been mixing the two or using more than the other and so he's a bit off-balance, but it's nothing that can't get back to if he stops running away from things too much the 1st time around ><

Hm. I should really stop quoting real-world facts I pick up, because they always seem to be inaccurate.
I'll have to ask the person I got it from.

I do know that in some foreign countries children will marry at very young ages.
And if Katara would be 16 in two years, then she would be old enough to marry Aang at the northern water tribe. ^_^

Katara is largely misinterpreted in fandom; she is made out to be kind of a promiscuous person who jumps on every boy. In my opinion, she should be interpreted as an ordinary girl, one who has had crushes and has been heartbroken, such as with Jetara and KataraxHaru, and who eventually falls in love but is a bit too shy to say it. She really is a caring person. Aang is a lot like Katara in a way, but kind of is a bit shy, not wanting to reveal his feelings too soon. Kataang reminds me of myself; I'm a 14 year old highschooler and I don't really reveal my feelings. It touches me as emotional and realistic in a way that other ships don't. When did Haru break her heart like Jet did?
