I think it would be cool if the Lieutenant returns in Book 2, maybe as a good guy of some sorts. I don't know why, but I just liked him, and I would love to see his backstory. It looked like he died in the finale, but Amon only bloodbended him and knocked him into a pile of wood planks. The Lieutenant has survived worse than that throughout the series. So, let me know what you think about the Lieutenant and the possibility of him coming back! P.S. Here is a quote from the Lieutenant's page on Avatar Wiki that I thought was interesting/funny: "The Lieutenant's mustache resembles the barbels found on a catfish; some species of catfish are capable of producing an electric shock, much like the Lieutenant does using his electrified kali sticks."

If he survived, I think it would be great if he returned. The Equalists brought to light a very significant problem in Republic City that was not solved at the end of the season. The Amon war thing made it complicated, but the original social issue that made people want to follow him still stands. Unless Tenzin puts something into law to help give them protections, it would be really cool if the Lieutenant stepped up as the new, true non-bender leader to further their cause. It would also be interesting to see if/how he would lead differently from Amon.
(Also that quote from Avatar Wiki is hilarious! I didn't know about the catfish connection, but that's really cute. Now I have to see if there's fanart.)

Yeah, it would be neat to see the Lieutenant as the new leader of the Equalists. Also, you mentioned fanart and that made me think of something: The Legend of Korra characters as fish/aquatic creatures! XD But that is more of a topic for another thread.

It would be nice to see the lieutenant return. Perhaps as a member of the city council? Like musogato, I hope that they don't leave the non benders revolution completely unresolved. There were a lot of legitimate concerns that were exploited by Amon. Hopefully we see non benders getting a little more fair treatment in the next season.

shadowbender, Ha, that would be cute! I feel like I've seen the Korra gang as mermaids somewhere before, but it's been a while. But since the Lieutenant has the connection with catfish, maybe he would secretly have a catfish collection like little figurines or catfish embroidered sheets. Or, because he mentioned something about catfish once, from then on everyone kept giving him catfish-themed gifts. ^^ Or that he has some kind of Batman-like backstory Thing only with catfish instead of bats, that would be cool too. I haven't been able to dig anything like that up, though. Maybe I'll draw something myself once I get over my flu. (Also, hope you guys are staying well! Apparently the flu is crazy bad this year?) @ilz, Oh, that would be a cool twist if he was added to the city council! Although I wonder if his association with Amon would damage that possibility, but if it didn't, that would be a great way for him to have direct contact with voicing the non-benders' needs and helping to get things done. Aaah. Although I'm excited about the Spirit World part of the next season, I really don't want to see Republic City's issues be swept under the rug. Or have some kind of cop-out Everything's Fixed kind of a thing. But since some of the main characters seem to be staying in the city, maybe that will help give a window into how things are faring or changing on the street level as well.
