Hey guys. So, this poll is self-explanatory. Which style of martial arts from Avatar would you opt to take if you could? Don't be limited by physical or monetary or distance issues. In an ideal world with your ideal body, which style most appeals to you? Also, the reason I put other down is for those of you who actually DO a martial art or those of you who would pick a martial art that doesn't have representation in ATLA. You are also not limited to one art. Ive made the poll so that if you want you can select all of them. But be realistic. If you wouldn't have the discipline to do more then one or two than don't check them all I would study Baguazhang and Hung gar, if I could. In the past, "other" arts I have had some limited experience with were Kenpo, Kuk Sool Won, and Yang style Taijiquan.

I would have to say Baguazhang. I can't really explain it to be honest, it just seems to have more power behind it *shrugs* I could be making things up though.

Yeah, the circles can generate alot of power. I like it for its footwork and evasiveness. Its hard for a meanie to beat you up if he cant touch you and you can knock him off balance or run away any time you like

If i could learn any of these martial arts there would be no contest Bagua because i always loved watching aang in the show dodge hits and objects with this style without really having to use the offensive. im like him in a way...i dont like fighting unless i need to and this art defines that statement perfectly.

I'd like to learn Hung Gar and Northern Shaolin, if I could. I'm very.... wispy, so the strong, rooted forms of Hung Gar I think would help balance that out, and the swift moves and kicks of Northern Shaolin look amazing and fun to do (granted one can do it without hurting themselves). I'd also like to know what kind of forums the Kyoshi Warriors' fighting style is based on, I think that style of 'using your enemies force against them' would realistically probably suit me best.

Hi Jade...The kyoshi warrors...style. I looked up what styles are most known for fighting with fans and got this, if your interested in it. www.bellaonline.com/articles/art35951.asp The above article mentioned Baguazhang and Taijiquan as two Chinese styles that used fans. So they probably used a style of Taijiquan considering the redirection of force is heavy in that art. Alot of Taiji's slow movements are throws trips and takedowns, only a few strikes in Taiji forms...Its a type of Shuai Jiao (grappling) and uses an opponents force against them similar to how Japanese Judo and Aikido work. Although it could have been Baguazhang.(or a mixture of both) Think of Bagua's spinning movements around an opponent while cutting with a metal fan...it wouldnt be pretty It doesn't mention any of the Korean arts that use fans(though their are some) , just Japanese and Chinese arts that used them. And for the world of Avatar, it would probably be the Chinese arts that interest you. That coupled with what Ty Lee taught them. I think Ty lee uses Dim Mak though they never say for sure what her style it. But basically she hits acupuncture / acupressure points along the qi meridians of a person to disrupt the flow of qi. Hope that helps ^_^ And if you do look further into it let me know what you find. Im a martial arts buff. I love learning about them.

I really like both Bagua and Northern Shaolin, but I am more passive, so Bagua would be more my style.

To be able to use amazing evasiveness and footwork to just keep out of reach of the people while I find my way out of there. I've never really been one for fighting, so just use Bagua to keep me alive while I look for a way out >_<

Bagua since I practice it in irl as well. The flexibility and meditative elements of it really speaks to me. I'm more of a defensive person than an offensive person, so I rather evade or direct the opponents own power than smack them in the face, so to speak...

Wow, thanks for all the info, Mrfluffypuff! Maybe I should change my vote to Taichi or BaGua. ^^ I'll look more into all those forms you mentioned as well, they definitely seem like what I'm looking for.

I'm lucky enough to take isshinryu karate. Our sensei knows taichi and bagua, and teaches it to us to help us in isshinryu.
