If you are offended, then try going to Avatar_Fans or aang_ain't_white's journal on Livejournal. There is a letter writing campaign going that is getting a good amount of attention in a short time. So try writing your own letter if you're offended! There are plenty of addresses at Glockgal's journal or aang_ain't_white's journal. There are also letter writing tips. My own personal suggestion is to send images of Avatar and images of actual Asian culture with the letter so the similarities between the two will be obvious. Please participate! It may not change anything, but we can still try. Either way-our opinions will be known. This goes beyond fandom guys. This is wrong. aang-aint-white.livejournal.com/ Here's a link.

I might send a letter. I'm not necessarily offended by the fact that they may not want Asian actors for all the characters, but the fact that they don't have a single one is kind of offensive. Also, they couldn't find people who resembled Katara and Sokka?

^ I would be okay with some of them being white, too. I just think a show with Asian influenced chars should be played by Asians.
Even if you don't send your letter, I'm so glad you took the time to comment. Even one more person could make a difference here. Thanks! *karmas*

I wouldn't say I'm offended, despite the fact that they didn't cast a single Asian person for the movie's four main roles is kind of offensive. More like let down. Although, I should have seen it coming, what with what they did with the casting of the Dragon Ball movie being no different. I'm not saying I'm okay with it or not, I would be if they resembled the characters they're to be playing.

But...most of the Dragonball cast are Asian...or at least of Asian descent...Chow Yun-Fat (Roshi) is Chinese ...Joon Park (Yumcha) is Korean (and way too old to be romantically involved with the movie's Bulma)...though...I must say...the movie looks stupendously stupid...and not in a good, Zoolander-like way (what can I say... Zoolander always perks me up when I'm feeling down )...I doubt the Avatar movie could look worse than that...

While I STRONGLY agree with this, I have to say that I have my doubts about any letter campaign. Paramount and Viacom are not producing the movie for Avatar FANS. They are pouring the money on it because they think it can be another kid blockbuster (just take it from the quote, "I think it will be the next Star Wars") made to appeal to many kids all around. (The New Star Trek is doing much the same thing)
Frankly, it would not surprise me in the slightest if Jesse might have been pushed a bit up the ladder of cast picks so they could promote him as the main villain to a thousand screaming pre-teens...... ugh.

I know i's hard to believe the campaign could work. But if we don't try, then there's no chance at all! Even if you are slightly offended, try sending a letter!
And thanks for commenting. Just the fact that you aknowledged this thread is very nice of you both.
