How is that screwing firebending? Its basically making it like it is in the show only more difficult to master.

"Power in firebending comes from the breath. Not the muscles. The breath becomes energy in the body. The energy extends past your limbs and becomes fire. "
"Power in firebending comes from the breath. That is why you must master proper breath control." Its not a question of advanced firebending; its how the basis and basics of firebending was explained in the series. This change makes me wonder if we will see lightningbending at all.

Eh, I'm not seeing how the firebending will work for SotN....but I'm more upset about the pronunciations. They're remaking the series, not reinventing it, so the characters names shouldn't change.

What are the firebenders going to do, carry around a zippo lighter with them? That's increadibly lame. That's as lame as that guy who can control fire in the first X-Men live action movie.

Right, fire benders can still do that. Rember when Aang was first learning how to firebend? He needed to be given a flame first.

^^ Thats not the point. That particular exercise was for Aang to concentrate on the fire to keep it from spreading to the edges of the leaf. It was not for Aang to use as a source for fire bending. Firebenders would not be relying on a separate source of fire for firebending.

Firebenders (canonically) lose to the other elements in the area of versatility, yet overpowers them in generation. That was one of the most unique, defining parts about firebending. It was their weapon that they could take anywhere and use, while the other elements based their powers from some substrate form.
Limiting them even further makes a lot of their victories questionable.

^ Word.
All Waterbenders would have to do would be to create a thick fog to raise to humidity to such a level that source-fires would go out. Also, there's that whole thing about precipitation. Sigh.

I can see the final battle between Aang and Ozai now: Ozai: "I have all the power in the world! As soon as I get this campfire started... dang zippo's out of fuel again..." *Aang uses a giant fist made of rock* End

^Meh, he already said that when Sozin's Comet comes, all firebenders will be able to firebend directly using their chi. Still, its a nice thought.

*facepalm*
Every single time I hear more news about this movie, the more I am convinced that Shyamalan has only watched the show in passing and has absolutely no idea of the particulars that make the series so great.
Also, the interview with him trying to justify his casting choices? Sounds like he was playing racefail bingo to me. Anime is ambiguous my Equus asinus...*grumbles*
