These people who write these novels don't care about that. They write the story. If the events of the story dictate that characters break up, they break-up, if the events of the story dictate they stay together, they stay together.
You're not going to see people being broken up for purely fan reasons with these people, not at all.

I'm not talking about professional writers...I was referring to the possibility of a group of fans continuing the story. The relationships that dominate the fanfic arena are not those found in the series.

True, but hey, that's part of the reason I really want to push this.

I don't think our wanting it is going to make it happen. Nick seem unable to see that Avatar has adult fans and just keep pumping out the kiddie books. If they listened to us we'd have an 'Art of...' and a soundtrack by now.
The fan-made continuation is a far more viable option...but even that would be all but impossible to get off the ground due to those stupid ships!

We could try pushing for them, you know.

You've seen the petitions for the art book and the soundtrack, right? We've had those going for years...

We could try to send letters to the heads of Pocket Book to get them to negotiate for licensing rights.

Yeah, but are you sure people haven't done that for te soundtrack? Seriously, are you sure they'd do it if you sent a LETTER? Maybe a bagful of petitions...

Perhaps we'll get something less kiddie orientated when the movies come out...

Paramount and Viacom, Nick's owners, have continued television series in novel form before, the greatest being their relaunch of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. I'm not suggesting just a few Avatar novels, they've released relaunch for DS9 novels on the average of a couple a year since 2001, so I see this going on indefinitely. To give you an idea of the scale of this, here's a list of the Deep Space Nine relaunch novels. They could do a new series with all new characters and adventures, but at the same time, continue one of the best fantasy television series' in history.
Deep Space Nine relaunch (example only)
* The Lives of Dax * The Left Hand of Destiny: o Book One o Book Two * #27: A Stitch in Time * Avatar: o Book 1 o Book 2 * Section 31 o #4: Abyss * Gateways: o #4: Demons of Air and Darkness o What Lay Beyond: "Horn and Ivory" * Mission Gamma o #1: Twilight o #2: This Gray Spirit o #3: Cathedral o #4: Lesser Evil * Rising Son * Unity * Worlds of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: o #1: Cardassia and Andor o #2: Trill and Bajor o #3: The Dominion and Ferenginar * Warpath * Star Trek: Mirror Universe: o #2: Obsidian Alliances: "Saturn's Children" o #4: Fearful Symmetry * The Soul Key (working title) * The Never Ending Sacrifice
Avatar by S.D. Perry was the first one published.

Eh... Manga form would be more teh awesomeness. Ditto to that. That rip-off "cine-manga" made for some of the episodes of the story is pathetic. I never bought it because I heard it really stunk. If Mike and Bryan made an Avatar manga, I would buy every volume. And it's a pretty long story, too, so I'd put it at at least 30 volumes, given two episodes per manga. If nick opened their eyes for once they'd realize the potential for a profit. But they don't, otherwise we would have had a soundtrack by now.

I'm talking about post-Sozin's Comet stuff. But comics would be call, as a matter of fact I'd like comics to be a part of it, but still there should be novels, forcing people to actually read.

There is so much left to explore. Much like the relaunch for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, it should go through all the crap and repercussions and crises that the war left over, just as the aforementioned DS9 relaunch has been doing for eight years with the aftermath of Star Trek's Dominion War.
The list of plot points is extensive, you have the reformation of the Fire Nation and the rebuilding it after a century of cultural damage from the lies and deceit of the past three Firelords. You have the rebuilding of the Earth Kingdom and the Southern Water Tribe and their relations with the rest of the world. Additionally, the books should contain large numbers of subplots focusing on the development of specific characters, which gives us chances to explore the characters of Ty Lee, Mai, Teo, Haru, and the rest of people who played a role in the series towards its end.
And all those plot points include action and dynamics. You have the potential for various violent conspiracies, recalcitrant colonist terrorist groups who don't want to abandon their homes, you have the possibility of threats from the spirit world,(Koh) etc .
