Why couldn't they earthbend away the drill? They could've just pushed it away! Instead they threw little rocks at it?!?! That doesn't make much sense?! And then when the drill was emptied, they didn't bother moving it, perhaps earthbending the ground under it to move elsewhere, no they built a little fort around it?!

Press release: The drill was just too huge. Regardless of what technique the Earthbenders had used, Tye Lee would have taken them all out. Yes they could have buried the drill after but they were too busy shadowing Team Avatar, hiding Appa and dismantling Lake Laogai. Anyway, the fighting scenes for the Drill were great and the Earth King (finally) convinced of the goodness of Team Avatar!
Microphone Gaffe: Hey buddy, you know how much were paying these kids to sing into a can? You want I should let them take the day off while I finish this episode? ok, we confess it was a shoddy convenient plot device. Thanks for trashing two books worth of story boards with one internet forum post. You can call the korean animators and Sifu Kisu to work on the rewrites. Come on, the fighting scenes for the Drill were great and the Earth King (finally) convinced of the goodness of Team Avatar!

^Capable Earthbenders?
They were probably sent back to more important things like training or actually fighting the war in different parts of Ba Sing Se? The FN bases aren't too far away.

Well I guess it is POSSIBLE for them to move the drill, but it would've made sense for them to Earth Bend away the tiny little things that were moving it along.
The Earth Benders (the ones that Mai & Ty Lee took out) were pointlessly trying to stop the drill itself when there was only like 5 or 6 of them. So bringing in my point of taking out all of the tiny things moving the drill.

It occured to me that it was odd Long Feng neglected to have the Earth King "invited to Lake Lagolai" and hypnotised like all the others. If he had, Fire Lord Ozai could have been hurling fire down on Ba Sing Se right in front of the Earth King and he would have thought it was fireworks.

He probably thought it wasn't necessary and besides, he'd have to come up with a VERY good reason to convince the king to leave the palace.

I dont think it would have been that difficult to convince the Earth King to go on a planned vacation or adventure. I think it must have been even more difficult to convince the Earth King to remain a virtual prsoner in his own Palace all those years without hypnotesim.

Well he was born and raised that way, and he said none of the EKs since some generation have been outside the palace.

I think it was when Aang invited him to come see Lake Laogai and he exclaimed that no earth king ever left the palace.

^^ I just checked the transcript of the episode on Avatar Spirit. On the way to Lake Lagolai he says that he has never been outside the Palace. Once at Lake Lagolai, he says is that no Earth King has been to the Outer Wall. Even if both statements are correct, it doesnt suggest that the previous Earth Kings hadnt left the Palace; just that they may not have left Ba Sing Se itself.

Whoops, I guess I must have misheard it.
Either way, Long Feng must have thought it was not a threat to control the king without hypnosis.
