This has been sort of an unwritten rule here for a while but I think it's time to address the issue. Well, I think we've all found an amazing piece of writing or art somewhere on the internet and just couldn't wait to share. That's great and perfectly acceptable however, it is imperative to give credit to the original author/artist. Taking someone else's work and claiming it as your own or withholding credit where it is due is theft. As xXtheStorytellerXx put it: Art theft is one of the worse thing an artist can do to another artist and to him/herself. Not only are you taking away someone credit for their hard work, you are undermining your own artistic capabilities and ruining your own credibility at the same time. If you intend to use someone's character, say as a fanart, its always proper to ask permission from the artist him/herself. Just saying, this way you build trust and friendship amongst the artistic community. If you want to share something, that's great but be sure to always credit the original maker. ^_^
