Because Sokka is not a master with his sword--he was only using it so that Azula would keep her distance. If Sokka did any more than that, it would not take much for her to dodge and disable him, leaving everyone on that gondola highly vulnerable. It was simply the most helpful thing Sokka could do, and it worked. But, if you think about it... a sword is a very violent weapon, a killer weapon too. Also, it's very bloody. There are kids watching the show too, and if they see Sokka stabbing Azula, that would be very shocking. Remember it's a show meant for kids and adults alike, so they have to balance the violence to make it apropriate for everyone. Ever since Sokka got his sword, he hasn't really used it to kill people, even in DoBS. Besides, an accurate sword slash could've killed Azula, leaving the rest of the final Azula-less.

Apologies in advance for bringing something up from a few pages ago... I figure the reason why Zuko doesn't say anything about Mai is because it would reveal too much about the importance of the ship. They want people to be in suspense about the fate of Mai & wether she will end up with Zuko, and Zuko worrying about her/wanting to rescue her would be a pretty big tip-off that Mai will be back. It's not necessarily bad writing, it's putting Zuko slightly out of character to serve the needs of the plot. I personally don't like it, but it seems to be happening quite a bit this season.

ALRIGHT....time for a stupid question!
Last week the Boiling Rock discussion was shut down, I thought because it hadn't aired in US yet....
Today, I saw that the newest DVD had both episodes on it...
SO, has it aired in the US?
Lol, sorry, I'm sure this is obvious to everyone but me, but I just got cable.

Nope, the episodes haven't aired yet, but since they were released legally on dvd, the staff decided to let us continue the discussion about them in the spoilers board.

He still said 'Sokka' before he said 'Appa'... He did? I must have my lines messed up, thanks for keeping me straight nandi! Know I need him to say Aang's name, writing it means nothing. And Katara, cause water tribe peasant doesn't work anymore and because he said her brother's name! I know it'll happen, it's the waiting that hurts!!!!

LOL, when Zuko says Katara's name, I think half the fandom will burst XD Yep, people are gonna die from other exploding people too. About Sokka keeping his distance behind Zuko, I think it is because Sokka can't firebend. What is Sokka going to do when blue fire comes straight at him and especially when there isn't much room on the gondola. Zuko is is basically his fire shield.

^Yeah, there was not much Sokka could do in that situation except try and swing at Azula. I'm still spazzing about Azula flying, twice! So very awesome.

^^I thought Azula flying was one of the cheesiest things I have ever seen. Really I thought that scene in CoD was bad enough, the jet propelled Azula at Aang, but this went way beyond bad.
And yeah, Zuko was kinda Sokka shield. The only thing Sokka could have really done there is knock Azula off balance, catch her off guard, and I think that is what he was trying to do. That whole fight scene was rather boring, IMO. It could have been way better, but it turned out pretty lackluster.

I thought it was pretty cool, it showed she had so much control over her power that she could even use it to fly.

Fire releases heat, and therefore can lift things off the ground. Think of it like a hot air balloon. The flames work as air to thrust the upward motion.
That was a crazy scene. I'm very surprised Azula didn't yell at the guards for cutting down the line when she was on top. If there was no gondola coming down and all of them survived, I would have loved to seen Azula give Mai's Uncle a smack down.

People shouldn't complain about a villain being too powerful.

People shouldn't complain about a villain being too powerful. O-o Um, yeah, because then it's like there's this totally unreal person flying around killing people.
