Avatar was mentioned in an article in USA Today on May 2, 2008 about Hollywood's plans to adapt many anime to live-action movies. (So much for everyone who keeps insisting "Avatar is not anime!" The art form refers to more than "animation made in Japan.") The paragraph didn't tell us anything new, just had Aang's picture and mentioned the release date of July 2, 2010. But at least the rest of the world hasn't forgotten Avatar, even if its own network has. Later: I tried posting this on avatar_fans at LJ, but all everybody cared about was arguing over the definition of "anime." Honestly...

That's interesting. At least someone is advertising Avatar, even if the release date is 2 years away.

At least it's because they're working on it. I mean, it's not like the final product is finished and ready to roll, but they're just holding it back from us for no logical reason. I mean, who would do something like that?

Avatar has anime influences, beside I always thought the word Anime was short for just animation...make it sound grown-up then saying the word cartooon...which BTW is also being made into like actions like G.I. Joe and Smurfs. BTW this isn't the first time there was an discussion about this...I reported that g4 had a debate about anime being made in for the big screen. and for those who are cheap to buy a seventy-five cent paper...here the link www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2008-05-01-speed-racer_N.htm

Avatar isn't an anime correct. If people want to argue then let them, they are mistaken. Anime was came from Japan and is from Japan. Either way, it's not an anime, people just think it is so they classified it as such.

*sighs* It's deja'vu with the last discussion about this over an year ago. As I stated in the thread that was titled "Is Avatar anime or not?" or something like that...(which is more on topic than the direction this thread is heading...)
"Anime" means "cartoon" in Japanese. So, whenever I hear people call Avatar an anime, I don't personally care. Really. The Japanese call The New Mutant Ninja Turtle series an anime because that's literally what it is so....it's really all the same. People outside of Japan tend to label anime as a "style from Japan" more so than its literal meaning.
As for USA Today, that's great that it got some recognition beyond animation and youth magazines. ^^;

Actually, I don't think USA Today would be worth buying just for that small article. I think I get them for free though since I live in a home office. >_> Um... Maybe, I'll search my Dad's waiting room and see if I can scan the article in for you guys?
It's kind of late right now to do that so I'll have to wait for day light to come.

Am I the only one thinking "Go, Speed Racer! Go, Speed Racer! Go Speed Racer! Go!" after looking at that article?
I remeber watching that show with my brother when I was a wee young lass...wasn't there a kid with a monkey always hiding in the boot?
