Hey, I know there's a thread or two about the console version of the Avatar video game, but as far as I can tell there's no mention of the Game Boy Advance version. Has anyone else played it?
I played through the GBA version yesterday on an emulator, and it was a much better experience than when I rented the PS2 version from Blockbuster. The console version was boring because of the repetitive combat, but the GBA version focuses more on puzzle solving. You have to use Aang's and Katara's bending or Sokka's weapons to get through mazes the same way you push boulders or navigate icy terrain and warp tiles in Pokémon.
From what I can tell, the GBA game's storyline is a condensed version of the console games' storyline. Even though the story is lacking heavily in length and quality, I was intrigued by The Maker's approach to ending the war: get rid of benders and make her own mechanical avatar. It made me think a bit about Aang's role as avatar: is he ultimately going to bring balance to the world through his peacemaking skills or his combat ability? The first season episodes seem to put a lot of emphasis on the latter, reminding us that Aang needs to "master all the elements" and "defeat the Fire Lord." If that's the case, then perhaps The Maker's plan isn't such a bad idea...
Anyway, I was all set to upload some videos to YouTube in order to show off this game (the graphics are cute and the puzzles were fun), but my file sizes are too big. ;_; Also, the sound wasn't working anyway. However, I did find this guy's speedrun posted on YouTube. Seems like parts of it got deleted, though...
