Korean manga is some good stuff. I read two titles right now: I.N.V.U. and Bride of the Water God. I want to read Nabi: Prototype, but it either hasn't been released yet, or my gay neighborhood Borders doesn't sell it. Anyone else?

Yah, in Korean it'd be called manhwa.
Anywho, the only one I've ever read was Goong.

I've never been all that impressed with manhwa.
I have read the first two books of I.N.V.U. and skimmed through a few other series of manhwa, but just never found the writing to be all that spectacular. The art style's intriguing, though. It seems more complex than manga.

I just bought Bride of the Water God today mainly because the cover art was so pretty. I want to be supportive because the artist says at the end that this is the first time she has ever shared one of her stories (too shy until now), but I've got some problems with it. Not with the story itself per se -- mainly the way it's being told.
The art is beautiful for the most part -- although the men have all gone beyond bishounen. It really is hard to tell them from the women. But the presentation of the story is confusing. There's a lot of blurred/sound effect panels where you cut to some action and it just makes the whole experience a little jittery. It also feels padded, when there's actually a lot of info ground that needs to be covered and that's not happening.
I'm intrigued by the story, but I'd prefer if she would put in more storytelling and less sound effect panels/staring into eyes panels/... panels/ etc...
There are a lot of characters and I felt like I should know each of them a little better by the end of the first volume.
Of course I'll buy the next volume when it comes out because I very easily get hooked on a series, and I need to know what's going to happen with Haebek's mom, but it would be a good idea for her to look at a manga like Kenshin to see how to put together an understandable, readable story with lots of characters and action.
IMO of course.

I have read 3 volumes of 'Bride of the Water God' and I must say that it isn't half bad but it isn't half good either. It's a very intresting concept but I don't think it was presented very well like other great ideas (Thousand Years of Snow....).
Another manwha I've read is 'A Kiss for my Prince' volume 1. This was actually a suprising one so I recommend it.

@randompokes: Huh? They only released one volume where I am. They released the other two in your area? @randompoke and mahatisa: I didn't know how to say it, but that's what I was thinking. I'm reading it, and I'm enjoying the art and all, but at the same time I'm thinking I feel like I'm missing a HUGE chunk of the story, and, probably a lot of people are thinking the same thing. Like, some parts seem like they flash-forwarded a couple of years, when it was actually a day. And some scenes with certain characters confuse me. Like, you'll think that one character is not with the other group, but they really are... See where I'm getting at?

tg reads moon boy, but that's all i know... Ah, I should've caught this thread earlier. ^_^ Haha... I have read other manhwa such as: - President Dad (- gets weird later on) - A Kiss For My Prince (- not bad but only one volume translated?) - Angel Diary (- I can kind of see why this is popular but...) - Chocolat (- easy to follow plot) - 11th Cat (- ....everything is disjointed but cute here) - The Queen's Knight (- it kind of lost me later on...) - Priceless (- one of the previous work by Moon Boy's manhwaga but I don't recommend it.) These are generally good for what they are. (Except, probably 11th Cat which is hard to follow.) But none of these really sucked me in compared to Moon Boy. I found Moon Boy (or Monday Boy as its original name) the closest probably to Japanese manga. I find most manhwa jump right into the plot without a back story in the first chapter. Moon Boy, at least, has a beginning that resembles what I usually find in shoujo manga. It has a plot that's full of suspense, character development, and mystery. I also love the artwork. I probably like this series even more than some manga.

@randompokes: Huh? They only released one volume where I am. They released the other two in your area? The second compilation volume is due out in 2008 (at least here in the US). I think Pokes means issues? installments? chapters? What are each of the installments called since they don't come out on their own?

I've only read a few manwha series, but I've liked them a lot. My favorite by far is Demon Diary; it's about the cutest thing I've ever read, and also has a really fun storyline. I also like Kill Me Kiss Me. I was a little leery about it at first, because it seemed like another one of those "a boy poses as a girl and vise versa; Hilarity ensues" things. But the series went way beyond that. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. One thing I've noticed about manwha is that most of the series' are fairly short. I've yet to see a big sweeping epic manwha like Inuyasha or Naruto. Also, manwha never seem to get animated. Which is a shame, because I'd love to see Demon Diary animated.
