Isn't that what makes it unique though? The fact that the notebook cannot be traced unlike a gun or knife. Anyone see yesterday's episode "Father." I didn't understand the beginning completely. Was Sayu permanently paralyzed. It was actually kind of sad to see Light's father die thinking Light was still not Kira. It was even worse that Light tried to use his father even in his death. I was pretty excited to see Mello manage to escape despite him now having a scar.

The whole thing with Light thinking about how to act as his father was dying was so wonderfully sadistic.

@ Chevalier- I think Sayu was traumatized and in a coma-like state.
Light IS sadistic! Even when he said " I love you" to Misa, it sounded evil. lol

You know Light never means it when he says stuff like that to Misa.

That's why she is my least favorite character. She's stupid and annoying.

I didn't even get that that was Sayu in the wheelchair, I didn't recognize her. And I don't remember what happened before exactly, didn't know she'd been injured or anything. My memory is teh suck.
It was sad that Light's dad died, but I think it was nice that he died happy. As for this new shinigami, I kind of liked him, he was funny. And I was worried at the end that Mello might be too close to losing far too soon, so I was glad he escaped. One thing I don't understand is how many notebooks there are... there must have been at least three of them in this episode, since Light gave up one but took Misa's, and at the same time Mello had one. I don't remember there being more than two before...

I think this is my first post on this thread. And I must hand it to Death Note: for something that has become rather mainstreamed by Adult Swim, I do like this series and respect it, probably because Death Note doesn't have a whole bunch of endless story arcs, and I can handle that.
I've read half of the first manga and watched up until episode 6 on OnDemand, and so far it is really intriguing. I like the literary devices they are using, most specifically the protagonist/antagonist deal. It just reiterates that the protagonist is not necessarily rightious or the "good guy": in my fair, honest opinion, Light is pretty darn twisted. Sure, Light has (or had) good intentions of ridding the world of evil, but is doing it from an equally wrong angle and, in the end, is trying to achieve the impossible on this planet: a utopia via the deaths of all who get in his way, one way or the other.
Just can't wait to get further into depth in Death Note.

Death Note was always mainstream. True but at least it's not over-rated like Bleach (loud shudder)

I can stand Shonen Jump like Death Note (and Kenshin; don't forget Kenshin), because they ended.
With the manga in particular, Kenshin had three arcs, totaling 28 volumes, and that was it. As far as the manga goes, I was thoroughly satisfied when the series ended at three arcs that took care of EVERYTHING.
With both RuroKen and Death Note, they didn't have thirteen, fifty episode arcs that featured a new main character every five episodes, and dead characters that came back to life from being supposedly dead, leading to a whole knew ordeal of stuff. (I know it's an exageration, but I'm just saying...)
That's the good thing about Death Note: from the episodes that I've watched so far, characters stay dead and don't come back!
I can't get into series where I have to worry that *I* might be dead before the series is complete. You have to constantly watch your back to make sure you don't die before you get home to watch the 300th episodes of Naruto, or else you might come back as a vengful spirit.
Which is why I prefer to watch short running series or already completed series.

All you have to do is lead a good life, you can still watch anime (and other stuff) when you die or it wouldn't be heaven. Plus there will be no commercials or other distractions. My only fear is that my perception of mortal entertainment will be different when I'm dead, like maybe I will no longer have the capacity to appreciate cool battles or sexy girls or stuff like that...
