It really gives depth to Aragon's race, especially. Makes you realize how significant his character is in the trilogy.
I think those three times I tried to read it were literally over 5 years or so. Finally, I read it out of sheer boredom, there was nothing else I wanted to read.

You know what was great, the fact that they left the Ents in the script! I can understand not including Tom Bombadil, but I think it was a nice touch to have one of the species around from the 1st age of Middle Earth.
It is just such good writing on Tolkein's part, to have someone like Treebeard, who has been alive practically forever say, "A hobbit? I've never heard of a hobbit."
edit: @ yoritsuna, did the filming of the LOTR affect where you live at all, or was it "on the other side of the island" so to speak.

If they are sooooooooo old and sooooooooo wise, then why have they never heard of a Hobit before?!
Same as the dragon in the Hobit,
Dragon: I dont reconise your smell....what are you?

@ Lt. Dan: No it was quite close to where I was, the filming for Rohan was on the out parts of Canterbury. It brough in a lot of money for the citys and towns in Canterbury and gave some of our people the joy of been able to be in a move...hehe. My ex Drama teacher was a extra in the films, he was used as a orc more then once and lost count of the many ways he was killed off...lmao. Also one of my best mates uncles had a could of big-ish roles, Lawrence Makoare, he played Lurtz in the first film, the Witch King in the second and third and the munted up ocr and the third.
@ Katie: Well I gues it is because they were from another part of Middle Earth, it was said that in a forest not far from the Shire there could have been Ents, but other then that they would not know about Hobbits.

Yeah...I guess they just did not leave the forest enough to really know... Katie: Very Nice! I had forgotten about that. YES! GO ME!!!! I loved that book! I tryed to recomend it to my friend, but she complained that she "did not like dragons" WHO DOES NOT LIKE DRAGONS?!?!?!?!? They horde treasure, breath fire, kill, and there BIIIIIIIG!!!!
