Another layer to the onion.
Sadly in this day and age an individual doing good gets maybe a room makeover...self centered overstepping laws and decency gets you on the front page of the media...if only as the infamous...
But most people who do good do it for goodness sake. There are little other rewards in it.
And blame it on us, the public, fascinated with the disturbing dark side of our society.

People ae always interested in the crimes of other people and their punishments rather than the rewards of the just. I think the attention comes from the fact that "we were the angelic who had no committed" the crimes.
Whereas when those who do good deeds aren't as "interesting" as top stories of girls beating on someone.
Btw, I heard after this happened the girl (Victoria Lindsay) went on her myspace and posted HAHA serves them right!!
or something.
If that is true, can it be justified? I mean, what she did caused her these injuries, did she really "learn" from the experience? I'd hella be angry, but to post it up on myspace? I fail to see the logic behind that.

Whatever. People not only get beaten, but get killed all the time. The kids who committed the crime are quite lucky to get all this attention from just a simple beating.

^ whoa, whoa, whoa. Simple beating? They held Victoria Lindsay in one of the girl's house, beat her crapless for 30 minutes straight, save for when she mercifully lost conciousness onlly to wake up and get it again from each girl one at a time. The two guys even told them to quiet down, they were getting too loud! They can't even tell what other injuries because the swelling still hasn't gone down enough! Her parents barely even recognized her! Plus; The released footage supposedly isn't even the worst of it! Then, they show absolutely no remorse and even joke about it in the holding cell and asked if they could go to cheer practice. But what's truley heartbreaking is the fact that Victoria was begging and pleading for them to stop and just the amount of panic, terror and pain in her voice while all of this was going on. I know that people are posting these girls' and boys' information on youtube and the families are getting death threats from out the wahzoo, and that's just as bad. Here's one of the suspects mothers point of view; it's a bit interesing to hear from her side. youtube.com/watch?v=ZGHcTiW2uto

Doesn't make the situation any worse, Kaneda.
Just because worse happens doesn't mean the beating is "simple."

i think they should be released to the public then it would be more fun. Not that I don't agree with you but you need to put more thought into your posts please this is CT. Bring more to the discussion. Yah, they beat her up. Tsk tsk, very naughty. A lot worse happens all the time every day. This kinda of post serves no purpose and it shows your not looking at the issue from the vicims prospective. Its fine if you don't think its a big deal but lest try to adress the situation a little better please. That's the problem GranGran- They had it all planned out and thought about how great it would be to exact their revenge... but they did not think about the consequences at all. So this leads me to think the equation goes something like this: Execute, videotape and post act of vengeance = Popularity and coolness in a corner of cyberspace Commit a crime, get arrest = Criminal Record Add it together and the girls still get massive popularity- Which is ultimately what they were planning if they were taping it to post. The message from the media is clearly misleading to young impressionable minds. It's become a matter of "Do something bad and you will reap the rewards". Look at the prostitute caught sleeping with Elliot Spitzer. Here you have a high paid hooker that was busted sleeping with the governor of NY for money, but heck- she's being handed recording deals, people wanting write her book for money and movie offers. Is the general public and media insane? Prostitution is illegal in this country- why is she being glorified when she should have been arrested? So with examples like that, what's to stop people like these young girls from doing something so disturbing when you know somehow, someway they will be rewarded? Sadly I'm sure these girls will go on every talk show talking about this. They make a half hearted apology but thats most of what they will get. Some how they will have a lesser charge then they deserve. This could be seen assault, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and other charges that could be added on. Personally I'm all for locking these girls up for a long time. This isn't just a couple of people getting in a fight and both people fighting and then ending it without any more issues. This is six girls beating one person to the point of very serious injury. There is no way to justify this I don't care what they said on my space. That would be like someone coming to my home and beating me until I was bloody mess for saying something negative here on DH. I guess just amazed that anyone could do this to a fellow human being and not stop when someone is begging for mercy. I truly disgusted that that anyone could find this justifiable or right.

Well the big thing is whether or not they get tried as adults in this case. More likely than not the defense would want to keep this in juvi where they would get lesser penalties. Unfortunately the thought they'll spend a long time in lock up isn't realistic. I'm sure they'll play the , "we're sorry don't send me to jail" angle.
They'll probably get probation and community service considering the girl didn't die or end up with a life altering injury.
FYI Kaneda's apathy is well documented, that's just his take on life. He's kinda right in that giving this issue more attention than it's worth does in someway play into the girls' original goal of gaining popularity.

This is stupid, everyone who actually cares is doing EXACTLY what these little princesses wanted. And I mean, it's not like she died (Or even came close). This story doesn't deserve anyone's notice. The girl's going to win a couple million dollars in court, the girls aren't going to learn anything (Since they're not paying), and everyone's going to forget about it.

But the point is, it's not the worst thing ever. It doesn't even deserve as much attention as we and the media are giving it. It just happened to be videotaped. All that came out of this was some publicity for the kids who beat her up. And from the victim's perspective... yah it sucks. Getting hurt sucks. Lots of people get hurt and worse. Her getting beaten up is one drop of suck in a great big sea of suck. We cant waste our time on every little piece of suck.

Yes you could have and I'm not asking you to change or to even care because you can't care about every issue you encounter. If your going to post address the issue better. Even if you don't care explain a little more. This is Critical Thinking and just saying this could have been worse or its not that bad isn't enough.
