Why is this thing back on again? Serioucly, there is plenty of time! "The Chase": Toph and the gAang manage to work on their problems and Katara and Toph get to know each other better (start of friendship), Azula reveals that she is Zukos sister and establishes herself as the new archenemy, TyLee reveals that she thinks Sokka is cute, Toph gets to know how it is to live in a group and not in a "protective dome", Iroh learns to know Toph and that she is part of the gAang, Iroh almost dies and the gAang experiences Zuko as a normal person with feelings for the first time and we see all elements working together for the first time and learn that the gAang doesn't prejudge Zuko and Iroh for being FN and chasing them before, most probably because they already know his motives (this is speculation). Everything of this happened in ONE episode. Please don't underestimate the quality of the plot of Avatar and stop bashing other peoples shipps.

I agree with TrustNo1...all I'm going to say is that, if they can pack that much into The Chase, they can have a million other opportunities to see the human side of Zuko in the same amount of time. I don't know if they'll use those opportunities, but I'm hopeful.
This is TheWeasleyboys signing off, good night and good luck.

I do like Zutara, but seriously, the chance of it actually happening is close to zero. So what? Not going to stop me from shipping and reading fanfics and stuff.

Please don't underestimate the quality of the plot of Avatar and stop bashing other peoples shipps. I did neither (in fact I put great trust into Avatar's plot). All I was saying is that Zutara is going to need a lot to happen and there isn't enough time for all of it. Also, why would the writers switch to Zutara when they have already developed Kataang/Maiko/etc. ? Not trying to bash, just asking.

All I was saying is that Zutara is going to need a lot to happen and there isn't enough time for all of it. Also, why would the writers switch to Zutara when they have already developed Kataang/Maiko/etc. ? Not trying to bash, just asking. Right now Kataang is onesided (it still is the crush of the childish side of Aang by the way he still is dealing with it), even the biggest supporters of Kataang have to admit it and Maiko, is still one smirk and one blush, which happened ages ago from a character, and this is not intended as bashing, who is only Azulas sidekick right now with no "real" personality she could be analyzed or developed with, but a great amount of apathy (sry Mai and TyLee fans, they are fun characters, but right now there's really nothing). I don't want to say, that Zutara is more likely to happen, because it isn't, but it isn't like Kataang was developed that much in last 25 eps in a much clearer direction then giggling and blushing (tick tock Kataangers, nothing is happening : or Maiko being really a very obvious shipp (if she had a crush on him as a prince she experienced Zukos AgniKai, maybe she is laughing at how foolish she was to even have a crush on the week prince, maybe she has to laugh of "the good old times", there are really numerous opportunities to smirk like Katara, before she froze Zuko into a icecude or Zhao, before he planned to murder Zuko). I really see a number of possiblities for my shipps, one of them being Zutara to happen, and these not. Especially because, these crushes or foreshadowing moments, could easily be developed to create love triangles, which are quite populare in these kind of dramatic stories to appear. My friendly advice is: Lean back enjoy the show and if Zutara happens, be surpriced! I won't be, because I am shipping it anyway.

Good point Ana.. but that is the same reason I will continue to support Zutara.
The writer's never fell short on any details within the show, I can not see why all of a sudden they would start.
Not to bash Maiko in any form, but there has been no interaction between Zuko and Mai yet, other than when they were kids. Just because Mai had a crush on Zuko back then, it would not necessarily mean she would now. Best I can pull out of that cute scene with Zuko saving Mai is that he DID save her. Perhaps for Mai, that memory of Zuko (plus the childhood crush) would resurface if Azula was to capture him.. she could repay the favor. If she still does have any feeling left for Zuko, she would surely have to know that bringing him back to Ozai would result in his death.
On to Kataang now. I never supported the theory that Katara acts as Aang's mother up until the last few episodes. I thought that it was a poor excuse to thwart a Kataang relationship and much too easy of a reply in a debate. Recently though, the pieces are falling into place to support that concept... and now incidents of the past seem to fit the shoe as well.
This past week we saw Aang apologize and he inadvertently or purposely admitted his feelings for Katara. Yeah she cried and hugged him.. but she also fixed his collar. o.0 Which very much so is a motherly thing to do. When Aang hurts, she hurts and gives him support- not to say a romantic relationship does not do the same. She was the first person to welcome Aang out of the iceburg (which could be metaphorical for a womb).. the first person a newborn is given to is their mother. She is with him and guides him all the time. And when he loses all hope and faith, she has a lil talk with him (Ex. Bitter Work, SOTFN, SOTN, The Storm.. etc, etc.)
In The Desert, she reaches out to him and consoles him while in the Avatar State.. much like a mother would do when her child is hurt. In The Southern Air Temple, she repetitively tries to cover all evidence of the Fire Nation to protect his feelings and then when he does find out, she tells him how she and Sokka are now his family.
Yes, yes these things all can be acts of love that goes on in a romantic relationship.. but the thing is, when two mature people have a relationship, they work through things and face them. It's not always the wife having to be the strong one in emotional situations.. and I can tell you after being married 11 years, that cute stuff wears thin eventually as more mature responsabilities come in to play.. like making a life and having children. My husband would be as useless as a pair of udders on a bull if I had to heal all his emotional wounds and tend to our kids.
Zutarians see Katara being able to stand up to Zuko and be the firm one when she needs to be. And they see Zuko developing into someone who has been down many paths in life and can relate to Katara, while providing her with the love and affection that was a void in his life.
I hope this maybe explains some of it , from a Zutarian POV, Ana. Please, I was not bashing any ships in this, I was just trying to provide examples.

Yes, he is taking his time and yes does (at least for the moment) appear to be one-sided, but Aang's crush is not childish and nor is he childish in the way he is dealing with it. She is the most important girl in his life, probably the most important person in his life. He is scared and nervous (this girl means a lot to him on many different levels and for many different reasons). I would rather see it take it's time and be done well then rush it, make it ridiculous, and make it out of character for Aang.
True, but Aang is the Avatar. He has a burden on him that is enormous. It might kill him. It certainly scares him as does his Avatar State. He is basically going through the whole process with next to no guidance and he's still young. Katara supporting him benefits her, her family, her tribe, etc. If Katara met Zuko now, in all honesty, it would be a very much "Katara doing all the work" kind of relationship. She wouldn't have a mature relationship with him right now. He still is tempermental, at times childish, and has a mountain of issues to work through.

Wow Amira! I really like the way you presented this.
And I do have to agree that Katara is definitely THE most important person in his life. I'm sure Sokka is too.. but we really don't ever see Sokka having many serious conversations with Aang.. not in comparison to those he has with Katara.
And perhaps that is the key to the puzzle for Kataangs.. Aang does regard Katara as the most important person in his life. Katara still has a family she holds dearly and worries for. Her devotion to Aang from the get go have been placed in her belief that he can save the world.. it would only be natural for her to develop a sense of much deeper feelings towards him.

He is 12, I don't see him feeling that she is the most important person in his life. As a matter of fact, the way he behaved in SotFN, I would highly doubt that. I can see that he is attracted to her as she is most probably the first girl he has ever seen in his life as a monk, so who could blame him, but I don't interpret much more then a crush combined with a deep mutual connection as friends. I can picture him having a second crush or completely losing interest after waiting for too long or accepting, that Katara doesn't feel the same about him like he for her. There are many possibilities and I don't think that only one of them the has the biggest chances to happen. I'm off.

She is the most important person. He went into the Avatar State to protect her (The Avatar State), he put his training in jeopardy because she couldn't join him (The Waterbending Master). And in SoTFN, it was his strong feelings (about the loss of Appa) that caused the Avatar State. He said that he didn't like the way that made him him feel and how he didn't like feeling like he was losing control. Katara was the one that helped him out of the Avatar State at the end of "The Desert." She put herself at risk for him and he probably felt horrible about that too. She does mean everything to him and to know he could be the cause of potential harm to her probably bothered him quite a bit. It was easier for him not to feel at all and later he explained all of that.
Katara and Aang have a special and close relationship. It is probably the most important relationship in the series. It is and has been a major focal point since first episodes and Katara was willing to go traveling around the world with a boy she hardly knew. There is no denying that the bond between them is there.

Okay, I really wanted to stay out of this, but....
If I may point out something, Aang has never felt what he feels for Katara ever before. This is the first time he's ever experienced this, plus the fact that she's his mentor and best friend. I get what you're saying, but at the moment Katara is the most important person in his life, because of how he feels; and God, sometimes that boy is to mature for his own good.
And if you want to get literal, Aang is 112 years old. But what does age matter? Just because he's 12 (or 112) doesn't mean that he can't have deep feelings for someone. His feelings for Katara are more then just a childish crush, and they've been steadily developing to his semi-confession SoTFN.
Now, whether or not Katara actually understood what Aang was saying is an entirely different matter. That could go either way.
All I'm saying is, just because Katara might be the first girl Aang has ever met doesn't mean anything as far as his feelings go. Feelings develop when you bond with someone, when you see them at their strongest and at their weakest, and you accept them for who they are. Katara and Aang have already done that, numerous times.
.... And now I'm just going to bow out. Good day.

Why yes, you explained the topic from a Zutarains POV very well and I didn't get the feeling from your post at all. You have your point, if it is true, that Katara is the most important girl in his life, but right now it is speculation and can turn out to be a chilish crush anytime. How is speculation that Katara is the most important person in Aang's life? It's been proven in the show numerous times: Katara is the only who can get him out of the Avatar State, he has went into the Avatar State for her, and he has put his training in jeopardy for her. Aang's feeling for Katara will not "turn out to be a childish crush" anytime soon (if at all) since the show has proven otherwise.

I concur. It's not speculation that Katara is the most important girl in his life. She is. All the evidence points to that.

I don't think Aang's age or 'crush' is anything childish at all.
I do believe Katara is the most important person in his life.. and he is going to have to view the world as the same in order to save it. He already has a great deal of compassion for humanity. His reasons for saving the world will have to be greater than saving Katara.. or Toph, Sokka and anyone else he come to know on a personal basis. Like Katara, I believe he can save the world.
I don't think his age should be a factor either. Whether he is viewed as 112 years old or 12 years old- he still has the enormous task of saving the world. That's a noble enough cause for me to allow the guy to have a love relationship.
But.. (always a but) I do support Zutara. I can not help feeling that a Zuko x Katara pairing is more ideal... this is what makes shipping such a personal preference.
