Outside the walls of the Earth Kingdom stronghold, Ba Sing Se, a lone pinprick of light shown in the falling twilight. It was a campfire, and several refugees were camped out around it. It appeared they were going to stay the night, because many tents were pitched around the small fire.
They had all been traveling to Ba Sing Se to seek shelter from the Fire Nation's driving forces. They had encountered many strange things along the way, and each were eager to share what they had learned and saw.
Upon closer inspection it was clear to see they were an odd group; made up of benders from every nation. The perils of their journey were serious and now they longed for just one night of carefree relaxation.
At the water's edge, two waterbenders worked hard to pull in enough fish to feed the group.
"Do you think we have enough yet Aunt GUG?" asked the wide eyed teen.
"I'm not sure Godhunter" she replied. "We haven't had this many people to feed since leaving the North Pole; I forgot what it was like."
Godhunter stared at the pile growing at their feet. "I think we have plenty now. Any more will be a waste."
He bent over to huddle the fish in his arms. After a few attempt, both aunt and nephew we're loaded up to their eyes in fresh fish.
As they walked back the fire and joined the other weary travelers, GUG announced, "Dinner's up. Who's hungry?"

Three tired airbenders huddled in the corner looking ragged and worn, One hid his left side with a chamys or cape. He leaned in to his foster father and shook his head. "I'm N-n-n-not h-h-hun-gry A-a-aun-tie." Said the boy in a choppy stutter. He nuzzled Yomi with concern as his garudian replied. "Chiko is just tired as soon as he warms up he'll be in better spirits." Mao looked around his steel colored eyes searching "I wonder who is all here?"

"Hi there", a teenage girl called while walking up to the camp, "I was heading to Ba Sing Sae. Could I stay here a while?"

"Of course you can." I answered. "We're all refuges here and all are welcome. Are you hungry?"

"Yes. Thank you." Outcast answered. "No need to be shy", Outcast told Chiko.

"It sure is cold tonight.." the Lady Ana thought to herself. She had a long an dangerous journey from her simple village in the Earth Kingdom and it was all because that stupid Fire Nation... But now was no the time for such thoughts, for she was approaching Bae Sing Sei where she would be safe again. Just then she spotted a small campsite. Filled with a bender from every nation and a happy bender from every nation (or as happy as one could be). That campfire sure did look warm. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt too much if she asked to join them.. "Excuse me. Would you all mind if I joined you?" Ana asked the group nervously.

"Hi. I also just arrived", Outcast said after sitting down just before Ana showed up, "You can sit next to me if you want."

A short distance away a lone figure was rapidly approaching the campfires. Fires meant people and people meant things like food - and even better, the opportunity to share stories. He reached up, adjusting his hat and stroking his fingers along the strap of his mandolin. As he came up to the group, he greated them with a cheerful wave of the hand. "Hey there!" He grinned lopsidedly.

Hiding behind a large boulder Haruka observed the campsite. "Oh.. I wonder if they'll let me join." She walked towards the group of people. "Um.. hello.. I'm from, well.. I've been traveling by myself for quite sometime. Would you mind if I joined you guys?" Haruka said in a quiet shy voice.

I started to serve the hot fish that was cooked by the fire made from the firebenders.
"Come one and all. There is plenty of room and food for everyone!" I chirped, loving the site of a universal crowd.
"Does anyone have any interesting things they found along their journey to Ba Sing Se?" I asked. "It would be so nice for all of us to share our journeies with one another, just as we are sharing this night under the same sky."

"Thank you, I would be honored." said Ana as she sat next to Outcast. She then smiled at the young man who has just arrived. He sure looked kind and..fun for lack of a better word. "Hello and welcome!" she greeted him warmly. Edit: "Well..I suppose someone else will have a much more fascinating tale to tell than I." she mumbled and then ate the fish hungrily.

The strange young man glanced over the people sitting around the fire with a bemused expression on his face. "You folks are a motley group aren't you?" He might not have had much room to speak though, his clothing was a ragged patchwork of all different colours and styles. The hat on his head might once have been any shape, now it only flopped down at an angle that was distinctly cockeyed. Only his mandolin seemed to be in good upkeep. Even the flowers laced into his clothing at random intervals were wilted and a little dried out.

(Off somewhere out yonder. I’m probably lost…. like always.)
The path ahead of me is one I’ve never walked before. I have traveled this route, but not this direction. A smile spreads across my face as I rejoice the happy memories that lie at the end. So many adventures took place on this road.
I look down at the ground as I take each step, recollecting all the events I have experienced on this journey. Each step has shaped me, made me who I am. Now here I am, returning to what I love, still love.
I smile once more and look downwards at the rugged earth. Many feet have traveled this very way, many have strayed off the path to other destinations; very few can say they have stayed on this one route, never stepping off the trail, continuously walking forward. There have been times that I have stepped off to observe the surroundings only in curiosity, but never did I get so withdrawn that I forgot what it was I was so passionate about. I look up into the sky and see a blue and red hue. The sun is setting.
My foot suddenly scuffs a rocky surface forcing my mind to come out of its daydream like trance. I stop dead in my tracks, staring down at an out of place, cobble stone road. What is this? This was never here before. My mind ponders all the explanations of why this foreign road is before me. It was true; it had never been there before. I read just the pack on my back and continue my quest.
As I advance, I can see the wooded scenery vanishing out of sight, revealing the bare hills in the beyond. I latch onto the straps of my pack and pull myself forward to a quicker pace to the top of the nearest hill. My feet sink into the dirt, only making my trek up the slope more difficult, putting strain on my already tired calves. As I reach the top, heaving to catch my breath, a rather peculiar structure lies in the no longer secluded basin below.
I squinched my face in utter confusion. “What the crap is that?!” I blurted out loud to myself. Many small figures can be seen walking around the fenced structure in unison.
I knew this was the location of the Empire. It had to be. I knew this land like the back of my hand, I couldn’t be wrong. But why does it look so different? Just then, fear caused my mind to freeze.
I look once again at the marching figures. A smirk slyly appears on my face as I feel a tingling feeling that I haven’t felt for what seems to be an eternity, spread throughout my bones. I twitch as the feeling passes, and flash a smile.
I look downward. I prudently scope the land below me, searching for a way to sneak past the guards to reach the inner section behind the walls. Before long, my eyes narrow in. Bingo. I hold my bag’s straps close and stealthily disappear into the long thistle surrounding me.
I make my way down the hill. As I descend the slope, I notice the grass behind me swaying back and forth as I clear the way. I guess I’m a little rusty. It’s been so long since I’ve had to use the skills I’m captain of. Surprisingly the guards haven’t noticed me. Who appointed these guys?!
I near the edge of the grass and peer through the straws like a lion stalking its prey, waiting for the right time to strike it down. Of course, I wasn’t going to kill these idiots. I was waiting for them to turn their back on me.
Minutes, which seemed like hours, passed by and the guards ceased to do anything I wanted them to do. They just stood there.
I can’t take it anymore. Silently, I leaped to my left to attempt breaking in someplace else. To my misfortune, there are guards everywhere on the premises. The thought of simply going to the Northern gate had crossed my mind, but I knew I wouldn’t get anywhere I wanted to go with my apparel from the commons. I stubbornly pressed onward, in the grass alongside the unfamiliar wall.
To my surprise, the wall seemed to go on forever. This can’t be the empire. Has my memory failed me again, for the millionth time? …. I stopped, realizing how many times this has actually happened to me in the past. Oh great. I’m lost. Now very clueless to where I am exactly, I look around. As I complete my circle, the top of a green shrub like tree catches my eye behind the thinning sprouts of the field I am encased in. My vision of the tree is obscured by the thick yellow grass reaching to the sky, high above my head. This is interesting. I squint as I stroke my way through the now dense grass.
As I walk to the “shrub”, I can see it is apart of a very misplaced patch of trees. I stop again and peer into the shadows formed by the trees. A strange feeling passes through me. It feels like I’m being drawn into this ominous woodland, but I don’t know why. I glance back towards the wall, only seeing the slender stone wall above the grass. My brow frowns by itself as I face the trees again. Despite the direful setting before me, a calm feeling spreads through my body. This feels so…familiar… My head tilts to the side in a trance. My hands unclench themselves from the strap of my pack and fall to my sides. I’m not even aware that my feet are taking me into this dark, frightening forest.
A fork splits the path before me. I study each direction with great austere. Like always, I look to the left. The weird feeling comes back and seems to push and pull me forward.
The trees above drown out the sun’s light, making it seem like it was night. A sudden coolness stings my body. I jump to the side, and out of my trance. I look around quite alarmed. Where the crap am I?! Like an animal in distress, I glance all around. Time seems to slow again.
A warm breeze blows low to the ground. The leaves that were silently resting are violently awoken, tossed up into the air and fall back down like confetti. The wind swirls down the path. I suddenly realize that I’m running as fast as I can, trying to stay as close as I can to these whirls of air.
The swirls dissipate at the mouth of a large clearing. I skid to a stop, almost falling backwards. My eyes widen.
There I stood. Before me was the very building that I knew so well. The muscles in my neck and below my ears tense up. I…I can’t believe… my face is filled with sadness as I notice how different it seems to be.
I walk forward, to the barred up door. The building seems to be abandoned.. “But why?” As always, I look for a way that I can get inside. A devilish smirk appears on my face as I see a familiar rock stone in the side of the building. I scurry up to it and push on it as hard as I can. It eventually gives way and slides in to the wall. I push it far enough until a secret tunnel is revealed. Well.. well. Looks like I still got it in me! I think to my self, bearing a wide grin as I dust off my hands and enter the dark hole.
I crawl through the tunnel with ease, for it is the same route as it had been so long ago, one that I had spent so many days in. Not being able to see where I am exactly, my head crashes straight into a wall. “Ow!!! What the crap is this doing here?!” I angrily rub my head and grumble under my breath. Great, I’m stuck here…oorrr am I…? I poke around, feeling for a small indent in the block. My finger suddenly jabs into the rock. Bingo! The door slides open and reveals a dark, drafty room. I crawl out and gaze at the scene.
Nobody is there. Again, a sad look spreads across my face. I drag my feet to the corner and plop to the hard floor. Where is everybody? “Alle is always in her quarters…” I sit silently for several hours. Just like the good old days I suppose. A smile sneaks its way passed the sadness. I soundlessly fall asleep.
