Everything and then some. EDIT: Everything except Little Miss Mystery. I got the scoop on her, although I would like to be privy to any inside jokes about her I may have missed. And it's so obvious that Little Miss Mystery is Mulan, which makes me sad because I want it to be Song. I want it to be Song very, very badly. I changed my mind: I hate Soko. Just when I'm 100%, absolutely sure it is un-canon, it comes back with a teensy little hope of canon-y goodness. It has me like a fish on a line: I swim away and it yanks me back. Seriously, I can be totally happy with an un-canon Soko, but I'm really hoping for canon-Soko because that would be really cool and make me squee. And I keep thinking Soko no longer has a snowball's chance in hell of happening...and then a little tiny glimmer of hope comes along and teases me. All right, on to it. I feel the same way you do as well. And hehe, my love-hate relationship for Soko deepened after this. As you probably have already seen, I was all hyped up with the plausibility that Song could be Zuko's date and I was preaching to the world and then BAM here comes the picture and I'm left saying, "Oh. That's not Song". ;;; After that I felt so stupid and sulked in the corner. ;D But aye, Soko's still got a chance like the rest of the other ships! I've also thought that because of this drought there's no way Soko's happening too, but you really just can't get away. xD

It COULD be Song.
She certainly doesn't look like the Song we know...but then it doesn't look like anyone else we know either. And I don't want it to be a new character: Mai has already been introduced as a canon love interest for Zuko, and Song is a fan-speculated semi-sorta-canon love interest for Zuko. Adding a third girl into the mix would make Zuko fangirls and Zutarians furious.
I could see Mai and Mulan* fighting over Zuko...but why introduce Mulan when you have Song sitting RIGHT THERE just BEGGING to be used? Mai and Song, now there's an interesting rivalry. So interesting, in fact, that I can't fathom how they'd fight, but that's not the point.
*Little Miss Mystery has officially been dubbed Mulan until further spoilerage

Thing is...I don't think they're terribly concerned about whether they make people furious.
However, I'm not entirely convinced that there isn't a lot more to the story of this "date" that takes it out of the realm of Zuko Meets a New Serious Love Interest.
I feel like this mostly because Mai/Zuko is still up in the air and, narratively-speaking, I can't imagine them introducing a new love interest for Zuko without doing something with that first after all the build-up. Now, depending on what does and does not happen with Mai/Zuko before the "date" occurs, I might change my mind.
But as it is, I'm thinking it's either not a real date or it somehow relates to an already-extant Zukoship. And I'm including Song/Zuko in that category along with Mai/Zuko, not because I think they care about pissing off the fans, but because narratively-speaking it really doesn't make sense to introduce a new random earth kingdom girl to be an actual honest-to-goodness love interest, when Song already exists and he's already had notable interactions with her.
ETA: And please excuse the excessive extent to which I use the phrase "narratively-speaking." It's an English Lit major thing. I'm always looking at things in meta terms of them being a story and feel the need to note that's what my analysis is based upon since this isn't a classroom and I'm not writing a paper so the fact that I'm analyzing the narrative for patterns and such as an objective observer isn't implicit.

I love you, Gotter. You say things very prettily.
I know the creators don't really care who they tick off (as long as it's not the network execs)...but I just don't think it makes much sense to introduce a new character--especially a potential love interest--when there's still a lot of threads hanging, especially where Mai and Song are concerned. Mai's feelings for Zuko are canon, but we know nothing of what Zuko thinks about Mai and have never seen them interact present-day. Song and Zuko's relationship is a big knot of loose-ends, and that all needs to be resolved.
Also, the writers are having to juggle a lot of characters right now, as evidenced by Azula&Co's disappearance for the last few episodes and Xin Fu and Master Yu only just showing up in the last episode. Now they're throwing two more characters into the mix that I will not say the names of because it's spoilery. Introducing a new character would only add more complications...which is why I'm still hanging onto the idea that MG is an older character being brought back.
I also just don't want a new one-shot character, because I'll undoubtably love her and then she'll never come back again, and I will be sad.
babbs, where'd you go?

Hi, I'm a n00b. I'm glad I found this website and specifically this thread because I love Avatar and I especially love ZukoxSong; it's my favorite ship.

And we're growing...>D Welcome fellow n00bs, welcome back, SoKo-vets! Edit, because we frown upon double posting, I think--: Anastasia brought up a good point in the Kataang war room. I really enjoy couplings where both parties can benefit from the other. My question is this, just to generate some on topic discussion here: How would the SoKo ship benefit both parties? I believe this will be addressed in essay format later by gamb or babbs or someone, but it doesn't mean we can't collaborate ideas here. I have my own thoughts, but I wanna hear some more of everyone else's first.

Maybe Song can show Zuko that he doesn't have to be alone? I don't know how Song can benefit, though...

You guys deserve a thousand karmas for these, especially you Gotter. *praises* And I agree with you guys wholeheartedly on how it would make no sense to bring in a new character when there are other characters already there waiting for a closure of some sort with Zuko. But then again, the creators have done that in the past, and maybe they could juggle another character in there. (Plus there's always a chance that Mulan could be a bratty rich-kid one-shot. We've never had that before.) In any case, I'll just leave it to the creators to making something good and surprising outta this. ;D @ inuyatta: Ahhh the benefits. I think I posted some in the old war room... I'll have to go find them. xD

I like your icon Dannyh. xD Blurgh. Mulan 'tis going to bring chaos or happiness...xD AND SHE HAS A COWLICK- WHAT THE HECK?? S'NOT COOL TO BE COOL WITH A COWLICK MAN....*
Bah. Mai, Song- If Zuko gets another girl I want to see Sokka, Haru, Jet, Aang *no, scratch Aang- he's with Katara*, and TOPH darnit- with some action too! v.v 'Tis only natural. Zuko has so many potential love intrest. Come on creators! The females you've placed to possibly be in a romantic relationship with him need more screentime, development, and a chance....
Man, the cowlick. Just the cowlick shows the coolness- and the way she stands! If I like her more than Song, I'm gonna be sad...
Please, Song, show up on their date and whisk Zuko off to the sunset! I demandth you to do so! xD
Soko is so shifty! Must have faith though...this is...my relationship motto! *That, and: 'Beware crazy fans' followed by 'How do I make a cyber orange taste good?' xD*
Bah. The creators lurve to toy...v.v I have not squirmed over a one-shot seeming character like this...in my whole exsistence...so my forgetful mind claims...xD
HAVE HOPE COMRADES.XD NOW AND FOREEEVER. Which is a long time to be Sokoite, I know. v.v

I have my own thoughts, but I wanna hear some more of everyone else's first. Zuko advantages are fairly obvious, so I won't bother listing them. Song advantages: 01. She seems to have a geniune love of helping people, so helping Zuko would make her happy (weak, I know) 02. I think Song and Iroh would get along famously 03. Song would get to see and explore the world, and expand her horizons. She's probably only lived in two different villages her entire life. 04. Song would get to play an important part in history, something she wouldn't be capable of in her home village 05. Depending on what happens after the war, Song might get to be Fire Lady And...I'm tired.

* Although I don't think Song believes all Fire Nation citizens are "ze evil", by being with Zuko she can discover another side of Fire Nation lifestyle that can further broaden her view on them, and allow her to see how similar they really really are (they are human, after all).
* If she loves Zuko and can be with him...'nough said. 'Tis happiness yo.
* She can tease him. Come on- be honest! Zukos reaction to light and good-natured teasing is just too much! All the herb and Junior jokes...that'd be price. xD
* Song would be able to make new, life-long friends she might not meet if she wasn't with Zuko.
* Kissing Zuzu. xD
A few. Lilo and Stitch is on! O.o Gotta jet! xD
