Name: Takeo Maeda
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Bender?: Yes, continuing to learn firebending.
Name etymology: Takeo means "warrior".
Physical appearance
Takeo is a feminine sort of male... His eyelashes are long, dark, and frame his eyes startlingly. His eyes are slanted slightly, wide, and amber-brown with flecks of gold, and his eyelids droop lazily over them. Laughter lines crease his thin mouth. Long, black, shaggy hair falls on both sides of his face, framing his long, slender nose, which has practically no bridge. The hair ends at a loose triangle at the nape of his muscled neck, which is a stark contrast to the fine bones of his face. His skin is slightly tanned and smooth. He has had physical labor when training firebending, and so, due to muscle, his shoulder-bones are not visible under biceps and deltoids when he rolls up his sleeves. He is tall and has an overall willowy frame, standing five feet and eleven inches. He wears a necklace which is made of one vine with a red stone pendant dangling from it- and dangling from his ear is another, similar, stone.
Clothing/Armor
Takeo's everyday clothing consists of several items- outlined here.
-One dark maroon shirt vest thing with no sleeves and is cut open from the neckline down- heh. It just hangs open, see?
-One black, short-sleeved shirt under this shirt-vest thing.
-A jacket that ends mid-torso with long sleeves, brown.
-Shorts- loose, flowing, with two huge pockets on the sides. Black... with a red border!!
-Shoes-converse Slightly elven-looking, these shoes are made of the Avatar equivalent of leather! Black. With gold filigree. But not real gold. Their tops end high in the back and mid-ankle in the front. They are hardy and will last for a very long time, although they have no real soles and are no more than a thin layer between foot and road.
Takeo has recently received armor, when he started to learn firebending. Having to withstand much heat, this armor is forged from burnt steel with no frills necessary.
One burnished breastplate- Made to fit Takeo.
Backplate- fastened with metal plates to the breastplate, the back is perfectly crafted to fit Takeo, like the front.
Thighplates- slightly loose and clank a little when they move.
Kneeplates- made of many linked pieces of steel- flexible and they move swiftly.
Shoes- poisoned spurs on the backs!
Hands- guarded with flanged gloves of metal- fingers are made of lots of tiny rings welded together.
Arms, shoulders, shins, and ankle guards are made of hollow cylinders of metal into which one can thrust one's appendages...
On Armor: Takeo considers it a nuisance and rarely wears it- mainly because it is uncomfortable and loud to walk in.
Weapons: Takeo, although proficient at firebending, likes some serious weaponry- even though he is physically strong.
Takeo carries with him at all times:
A small shield- to clip on belt.
Two small daggers- made of stainless steel and sharp enough to slice a leaf floating through the air. Handles are made of light birch wood and are almost like his skin color.
One sword- two and a half feet long total. Its hilt is made of the same birch wood with dark walnut inlay and a design of... um... purpleheart wood! The hilt measures six inches and there is one prong of metal protruding at the end at a sharp angle.
And those armor boot poison spurs.
Personality[/u]
Overall- Takeo is an inner dreamer, with a laid-back personality, a reclusive mind, and wit quick to come. He enjoys writing poetry and taking walks in the nearby swamp, but enjoys firebending most of all.
Pros- Although he is laid-back, Takeo's mind is unnaturally sharp and notices a lot more than people expect. He is shrewd, and his poetry focuses on deeper meanings and unseen morals, et cetera. His dreaminess causes slow anger, and intense focus. He takes what he is given and never complains.
Cons- Takeo is forgetful, disorganized, and antisocial, with a slightly pessimistic mind. He also has a slight paranoia complex, and suffers from OCD. A mild case of schizophrenia is also present- one personality completely calm and rational, the other in an intense fit of powerful rage, firebending.
History
Takeo comes from a family of two- he and his brother Ronin. His brother, a fighter, left to train in the army so as to avoid starvation, selfishly leaving Takeo- then thirteen- to make his own way in life. This occurred three years from this point, and Takeo remained at home, alone. Their parents died in a firebending accident that involved a rampaging badgermole and several drunken firebenders, and when this happened, Ronin, eight years older than Takeo, took up a job and managed to purchase a small plot of land near the border.Takeo met Masami, a girl with fiery eyes and an equally fiery personality, when he was ten, and the two have been steadfast friends ever since. She has helped him get over some obstacles in his time that he never would have managed without her. She was there when his parents died. Masami was there when he started firebending and his muscles ached every day. She was there when Ronin left, and she took him into her parents' house, and they accepted him as a son.
Takeo never had formal education, but Masami did until the age of thirteen. She taught him how to read and write. He started working shortly after learning how.
In the past year, he has had to be yanked out of his educated, dreamy la-la-land, though, because intensive training has begun- because of the war. Takeo goes to training every day in the nearby town- accompanied by Masami, who is also training.
Now, Takeo's greatest ambition is to be a full master firebender- though of course he has not revealed this to any except himself and Masami. This may take a while, though- there are several levels of master to be considered, and Takeo has not achieved even the first. Accompanied by her, he practices harder and harder, buying scrolls with the money he earns from his job at the armory and swiftly memorizing the deadly moves. Often they fight each other, sparring until their clothes are charred and their movements are broken.
Opinion on the Upcoming War
Takeo vehemently opposes the war. He views firebending as a gift to be used to vent and rage, to let off steam and to be used in useful ways however it can, to be used in friendly competitions and battles- not war. Unfortunately for Takeo, Masami, control freak that she is, thinks the idea of a war is a great one- so he has to feign enthusiasm whenever she mentions it.
Example of RPG (oh dear- be prepared...)
Takeo lay in the shady canopy of a tree, legs fully stretched out along the limb, back slanting against the trunk casually. An insect buzzed, making him look around wildly. He glared around frantically, and finding the irritating insect, fried it with a finger of flame. Freed of the noise, he closed his eyes slightly and his mouth opened, long eyelashes brushing his cheekbones. His dark hair rippled in the hot breeze and his eyes flickered back open, focusing on the glimmering heat-waves floating through the air.
It was hot. Everything was hot. Everything was overheated. Summer was a season to hate being a firebender. Takeo shrugged off his long-sleeved, muddy-colored jacket and kicked his shoes off, catching them before they fell and sticking them into a hollow in the tree. He slumped forwards onto the branch and his arms, long and corded with lean muscle, dangled.
It was hot. It was too hot.
He shimmied down the tree, taking shoes and jacket with him, and walked calmly over to the river- it was too stiflingly humid to run. He lay down on the muddy banks and stripped to his black t-shirt and shorts. Slowly, luxuriously, loving the cool feel of the mud's glistening hands caressing his steaming body, he slid into the river.
It wasn't deep, and it was completely clear. The crystal freshness of it made him sigh and keel over, floating, merely floating. He slowly sank, reaching the bottom in mere seconds. His eyes glinted gold as he opened them again. His loose hair rippled as a current flowed through the stream. He picked up a handful of velvet sand and held it, observing the swirling pattern it created as it descended.
His breath ran out. He stood up, breathing in, lavishing the taste of the air on his tongue. He loved the living kiss of the air on his skin after getting out of water.
Feeling invigorated, he put his maroon vest on, slipped callused feet into slippers, and ran back home, ran, although it was too hot to run. He ran until the cool feel of the water had gone, ran until his eyes no longer saw the glittering underside of that calm river. He ran until he was as hot as before- but now he was alive.
Fully alive, like that flame after it catches a whiff of oxygen and flares, like that forest fire, raging furiously until it burns out and cannot live any longer.
Takeo was alive.
