When Godhunter announced that we would be starting a new RPG in the Fire Nation, I began contemplating a new OC. In the RPG's suggested storyline, it would take place at the start of the war, Aang has recently gone missing, and several foreigners in the Fire Nation are begining their exodus. I don't know whether my character complies with canon or is plausible in this sense. I need some feedback.
Name: Min
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Nation: Fire
Bender?: No
Appearance: Min is rather plain, compared the fiery beauties of her native land. Her long, thin face is seemly, but, combined with her black hair pulled back into a bun, it always makes her appear older than she actually is. She has the amber eyes of her people as well as their light skin tone. It is important to note that Min is very pregnant, thus she resorts to wearing loose fitting robes. This however gives off the appearance of her being shorter as her actual height is roughly five feet and nine inches. Her favorite one to wear (and her current attire) is the pale pink hanbok that her husband, Hyun, brought back from the Earth Kingdom. She carries a pack on her back.
Personality: She has a calm, sociable demeanor about her when she is with people. To those who don’t know her very well, she is the image of a housewife and soon to be mother, a very caring individual that tries to keep a cheerful and confident face despite insurmountable odds. However, Min suffers from mood swings that cause her to be downright violent. Whether it is a consequence of her current condition or a reaction to the unfamiliarity of her surroundings remains to be seen, but she very much feels the pressure weighing down on her and her unborn child (more on that in History) and often reacts with great antagonism, even contradicting her usual behavior. She likes flowers, particularly orchids, and often bends down to look at them more closely (sometimes transplant them into pots in hopes of replanting them in her garden). Sometimes, this gets her into trouble, particularly if the flowers belong to somebody else and they weren’t too fond of people stealing their plants. She has a sense of loyalty to her Nation, which caused her great grief when she was compelled to defect to the Earth Kingdom.
History: Min was no different than most of the girls in the Fire Nation. She was born to loving parents who were well off as servants to the port town’s magistrate (her father took notes for his Excellency and her mother and herself were nannies for his five children) and very much loved her island. Of course, Min always considered the day she was truly born was the day she met Hyun, a man from the Earth Kingdom and a merchant ship’s steward. To her, Hyun was the most beautiful man she had ever seen. She loved his moss-colored eyes and his cocksure gait. He was also very hungry that day. She was much bolder when she was younger, so she walked up and asked him to come over for supper. Her parents were surprised when he came over, mainly that she had just met him and that he was a foreigner. However, as his ship came to port more often, Min and Hyun became more deeply in love. Then one day, Hyun came and asked Min’s parents for their blessing.
Despite reluctance from her family and neighbors, marriage life had been rather good to both Min and Hyun. They lived in a little house with a garden in the back in a small town and had made very good friends with their neighbors, many of them foreigners to the land as well. They had planned to raise a family there and you would imagine the couple’s joy when Min discovered that she was with child. However, Hyun had gotten very ill soon after and was bed-ridden for many weeks. Min was devastated when he didn’t wake up. It didn’t make it any better as anti-Earth Kingdom sentiment began to take hold of the nation. Strangers began following her when she left her house during the day, cruel messages were written on the doors of her and her neighbors, and, finally, her friends were being taken away during the night. One night, Min fled to her parents’ house, in hopes of finding refuge. However, her parents informed her that the Fire Nation has declared war of the Earth Kingdom and that they have already sent out arrest warrants for Earth Kingdom natives and sympathizers all over the island. They advised her that the best course of action would be for her to leave the Fire Nation. Min was conflicted, between her life and her love of her country. Ultimately, it came down to what was best for her child, the result of a mixed race union. He would surely be killed if he would be born an Earthbender there. Min agreed to leave, reassuring herself and her parents that her husband’s family would have a place for her and her baby, though whether they would be as accepting as her parents or not was unknown to her. Min prepared a pack at her parents’, for they suspected that her home was being searched, and she bid her parents a very sad last goodbye.
