The moonlight shines through a doorway.
It illuminates a girl around eighteen.
Hair hangs, elegant, around her regal face, framing it like some exotic picture.
She kneels by a body and checks for a pulse. Her flawless skin wrinkles hideously into a vicious grin, twisting her outlined features in the dim light. As quickly as it was there, the wicked smile is gone. Her face once more is that of an angel.
She knows that the time of the Fire Nation is gone, and that of the Earth Kingdom is here.
But she cannot restrain herself.
Azula has power beyond that of any firebender. She intends to use it for her own good.
I am power.
She is power. She personifies it.
The girl stands, moonlight running across her face again, a silent creek. Her golden eyes narrow and she sniffs the air, like some sort of sleek, deadly feral cat.
Azula pads into the next room, one side of her mouth lifted in a snarl. She sees guards, silently watchful. Slowly she edges across the far wall, where light does not touch, and with two short thrusts of a tiny knife, kills them both.
She licks the blade.
She slips into the inner chamber. Breath hitching, she notices that the sky is a shade lighter. Several guards stand vigilant. She scurries back into the last room, leaps cat-like into a hole in the ceiling, and drops down behind one of the guards.
They are upon her before she can growl.
However, Azula is not named a master in vain. She quickly sends out a sheet of flame that roasts everything within range. The flare of heat ends quickly, shimmering in the air silently before evaporating.
Her leather shoes make no noise on the ground. The sky lightens further. She curses softly as the sun peeks over the horizon. Like a dark thread slipping through a needle's eye, she is out the window and scurrying away from the palace.
Death's best friend will visit again.
Hope you liked it!
