Ok I'm not here to bash anyone or their works I'm just gonna give you guys an example of a Mary Sue. darkones.tripod.com/id1.htmlNow it states nowhre that he is the avatar. This is a bad profile to those who want a comparative reference. He bends water, fire, and earth. He looks better than most people. HIs personality is okay, evil and lusty, makes him an imperfect character but not a good one. HIs profile on history is pretty bad as we know nothing except he has abrother and he was locked up for being evil. Good thread, Horyo. Hopefully it'll help people when creating OCs. If anyone wants more information on Mary Sues, here's the Wikipedia article.

AAACK! The Gary Stu-ness BURNS!
Thanks for creating this thread; I've yet to come up with my own Avatar OC and I hope I don't make a Sue...(Well, I've had one that I lent to my friend for her fanfiction, but Gaishi is a stuck up and whiny brat, so hopefully I'm not doing too bad in the OC creating department)

Oh, thanks! This was a great thread. And thanks for the survey, Empyreal Maiden. I don't have too much trouble, but it's always good to check.
What bothers me more than a regular Mary-Sue though is the "alternative" Mary-Sue. A character that the author makes it a point to say is not a Mary-Sue, though really the only difference is something like that she's angry a lot. Maybe that's just a really random pet peeve, but... A Mary-Sue is still a Mary-Sue.
