I agree Sakura/Nandi. I see them more as friends than lovers. I saw much more romance in Jetko. That just screamed slash to me. But Aang seems like a little bro to Zuko and it seems like something they both really need. Zuko needs someone to look up to him and Aang needs someone to look up to (who isn't a reincarnated version of himself LOL). I know the symbolism is sometimes slash but I didn't feel a romance vibe as much as a great brotherhood vibe. Maybe after the war though ...

...I'm sorry, I didn't realize there were serious shippers of this relationship. I mean, I think it's fairly obvious there will be no yaoi/yuri on a Nick show, but all the same, if I offend a serious shipper of Zukaang, I am so sorry. T_T I just thought there were a ton of easy jokes in 'The Firebending Masters'.

Well...90% of the ships won't come to pass...so I see no harm in it.

I don't take any shipping seriously. It's just latley I've been getting a lot of flack for even JOKING about it.
Nevemrind the fact various, more easygoing humorous Nick cartoons showed material that screamed gay pride and nobody other than uber religious people said anything about it....
It's kinda like the thing in capslock_atla where you replace the word "destiny" with ""buttsecks" and it just seemed to make a lot more sense.
Zuko's "Crossroads of Buttsecks".
The end.
Though....if it were the crossroads of buttsecks, he should've picked Aang.
Certainly wasn't going that route with Mai...
Unless, she's secretly a man.
....I think I just hurt my brain.
Carry on.

Omg, the capslock_Atla jokes with replacing destiny with buttsecks is hilarious. It fits so much better as well, specially if you've seen "The Western Airtemple" that episode is full of blah destiny blah.
And Zukaang <3 How much I love this pairing now thanks to the newly released episode.

The nice thing about most slash shippers/pairings, is that we know there's no way it'll happen so we usually don't take ourselves all that seriously (much like being a crack!shipper). I'm a fan of slash myself, but I generally like a serious exploration of the relationship (not in a romantic sense, just in general) over OMG!randombuttseck0rz. To me it's the interaction that matters.
For example, I've written fics that I consider to be slash, but which have lots of readers who don't like slash at all. The stories just explore the relationship between the characters in a way that can be read as 'slash' or as simple friendship. Of course, there's almost never romance stuff in the stories I write - no hugging/kissing/etc. My slash tends to be purely subtext unless it's humourous.
For me, the sticking point with most slash is that people ignore the personality of the characters and just bend things around to fit with their viewpoint (although I have that problem with non-slash ships as well). For example - do I think Zukaang could be plausible? Putting aside the questions of canon and Nick policy and everything else, I think it's unlikely but possible. There's already the foundation of a friendship to base a potential romantic relationship upon. But at this point in time (and with the existence of Aang's love for Katara) it's highly unlikely. Trying to show a relationship set at this point in time would be out of character. Take things into the future a few years and give a slow build up and it would work so much better.

I admit, I like to write the mushy, sexy, junk because it's fun, but I really enjoy looking into the deeper meanings of the relationships. I used to have the problem in a lot of anime fandoms where people would jump on the yaoi wagon because the two guys "would be hot together" and anyone who said otherwise was shoved out the window. Nevermind the fact the characters had canon female love interests, and didn't even really get along. Zuko and Aang look like a couple of equal opportunists. Aang's wordly, and a free spirit. If he saw a gay couplle kissing he'd probably be all "Awwww" about it. Zuko on the other hand, he's so awkward and dweeby with the ladies, I can only imagine what a male bedmate would be like with him. On a happy Zukaang subject- If they were to have a relationship, who would be the more dominant one? I vote Aang, on the basis he is the Avatar and nobody has the cojones to put down the Avatar.

This is a fic that's one of my absolute favs that could completely be considered slash but could completely not be seen as slash. I prefer to see it as a teen-male bonding story. Others could easily see it differently. I think it illustrates exactly what you're talking about Growly. www.fanfiction.net/s/2905424/1/Prison_ConversationsIt's an AU (circa season 2 I think) about Sokka and Zuko. No Zukaang so I guess it's off the over all topic, but it fits with the current topic ... if that makes sense. (BTW why don't you link to one of your fics since you brought them up and got us all curious?)
