I will repeat myself. There is only one context in which the particulars of the age and age differences between the characters matter in regards to romantic relationships. This particular context will never come up in the show. Ever.

I know being 12 and 14 doesn't really matter but won't it feel kinda wierd when the boy is younger than the girl.( Full House episode)

Only if one's cultural upbringing makes it so, and considering Aang and Katara's respective backgrounds, I doubt either of them really care. I'd also heavily advise against "argumentum ad an entirely different show" for deciding anything about Avatar, as I don't think I need to explain why comparisons with Full House are invariably going to fail.

The issue only ever came up in the show in a tangential way at the beginning of "The Fortuneteller", and in the end, Katara's realization about Aang destroyed the "he's too young for her" issue in her mind. Since Aang and Katara's relationship only concern each other, if neither think the age issue is an issue, than it isn't.

Age only matters when the maturity levels are different. When they are the same or something close to it,then age aint nothin but a number.

Maturity level is a definite factor in age differing relationships. In the case of the Kataang gap, it works. Aang may be a little less mature, but not to a point where it's important in any way. On that point, Zutara works with maturity levels too. I don't think either age gap is consequential to the relationship. Or for a lot of the other popular ships.

I've said this in the Tokka Bayside Hotel three or four times. Toph is as mature as sokka if not more so. I agree that it's about maturity not numbers. And besides, they are all far more mature then most kids their age because of the things they've been through. In my opinion it's an equal playing field no matter which way you put it in my opinion. I think all of the ships are fine and that relationships should be based on personality and chemistry not ages.

If Sokka were paired with somone of leveled maturity it would probably be with a 5 year old . I think Zuko X Aunt Wu should just automatically by denied because of the age difference. But any serious ship in this fandom i've ever heard of doesn't have enough of an age- gap where the creators should even worry about it

I think Sokka has his five-year old moments. But he also has become far more of an adult as the show goes on. I wouldn't say he has the maturity of a 5-year old... but maybe of an amazing earthbending 12-year old ;D

It's okay for a 14 year old girl to be with an older guy because that's how it has always been. Their relationship is more mature, that's the appeal of Zutara. People may say that he's all whiny and angsty but isn't being a teenager supposed to be one of the best and worst times of youur life? Take a look at my brother, when he was a kid he was like a boy version of Ty Lee, now he's super emo. Teenagers are supposed to be angsty.
As for Kataang, it's just wrong for a 14 year old girl to date a 12 year old boy. In my country, that's like a sophomore girl going out with a sixth grader boy..and that's just wrong.
if they were older, like if Katara was 17 and aang was 15, i'd have no problem, but Aang is kinda immature now..and i don't want Katara to end up with an immature character. She deserves more. She should have a shoulder to lean on, instead of being THE shoulder to lean on.
i'm sorry, but this is how I practice for my debates at school, i argue about Zutara on the boards!! YAY! This seriously makes me happy, you know, debating.

well then, i guess that knocks Zuko way out of the equation
that strange seeing that most pro-Zutara arguments stem from Katara being the one to "heal" or "comfort" Zuko
Katara would be Zuko's "surrogate mother"

Take a look at my brother, when he was a kid he was like a boy version of Ty Lee, now he's super emo. Teenagers are supposed to be angsty. But Zuko isn't just angsty. He's got some serious issues. And define "mature" in terms of their relationship? Zuko isn't terribly mature as a character. Well in the Avatar world it might not be such a big deal especially since said 12 year old boy is the one exected to save the world. I really really wish people would stop defining Avatar and their relationships by our world's standards. Seriously. How many 12 year olds do you know who save the world. Or 14-15 year old girls who make grown Dai Li agents pee their pants. They aren't typical kids. She deserves someone who loves and cares for her. Who forgives her weaknesses and celebrates her strengths. Who completes her. And that's Aang. Despite their ages, they are extremely close, relate on almost every level, and have a relationship that for them seems to work extremely well. Don't turn Aang into a mere childish baby just to make room for Zutara. He's not as silly and immature as you make him out to be. I really don't see Zuko being a shoulder for her to lean on.
