I have an idea for every one of them...and they're sort of connected to each other so they tell a bit of a mini-story...I just have to find the time to get them done. I guess it'll be a seven-day weekend from me

Cute I don't know if this can count as a topic, but I have a question. Do you think Toph actually had a crush on Zuko by the end of it, or do you think that she just wanted a field trip with him to be a part of things?

I think that Toph just wanted her turn at a field trip with Zuko. I think she likes Zuko but not in a crush way. I like them as friends.

It may have been a woobie-ish crush...

I don't really think that it was a crush either, but I do think she sympathized with him a great deal and wanted to be his friend because of that sympathy. It might have turned into a crush if they had more time and Zuko didn't already have a girlfriend.

I have never seen toph punch anyone with such "affection", with the exception perhaps of Sokka. I know that doesnt mean much, but one thing can not be denied. Zoko Is the only person she seems to truely admire and respect. (Katara may be the exception, but that is obviously a daughter/mother thing.) Even with sokka, that was a simple crush crush IMO. She never complemented sokka, or showed true respect for him. I know the punch alone doesnt seem like much. But just look at the expression Toph has directly before and after punching Zuko. I dont know about you, but that looks almost loving. She seems to understand him, and seems to admire everything about him. Even in his greatest faults, she seems to find saving qualities. I really havent watched avatar for a long time, so I cant quote scenes like I used to. But she seems to respect Zuko all the more because of his rough past and horrible upbringing. "Considering everything he's been through, he could have turned out allot worse". The way that was said, I had the feeling that there was a certain admiration for him even then. There was also how she seemed to love that he kept Iroh's old sandal. "I think its sweet." And of course, the famous scene outside the play. Now, fast forward to the finale. Did she want to go with him because she had a crush on Zuko? No, I dont thing so. I think there is enough understanding and admiration between the two that it could be considered to foundations, or inredents of love. Despide this, I still dont think Toph was thinking of Zuko that way. She was too casual around him. She wanted to bear her soul to zuko and be with him because she respected him and knew that they understood eachother. She wanted to be with him because she thought he would have some really good incite. And he likely would have. They have allot in common with their past. But he was focused on finding Aang... and it played good for laughs with the violin in the background.

^I definitely agree Zenjamin. I feel like it took Toph a lot less time to get used to Zuko than it did even with the others just because she felt from the beginning that she related with him. And why wouldn't she? Crappy parents, lavish lifestyle that at the same time is pretty constricting...Toph being the first person to really trust him after his betrayal fiasco is what really got me interested into the pairing, and the fact that she didn't hold it against him pretty much cemented me liking it. I just wish that their relationship could have been explored more, but at the same time, I was ecstatic because in the last two episodes I got more interaction than I ever could have hoped for. If only they could have had an actual field trip. For some reason, people tend to get turned off of this pairing because of the age gap, but after EIP, I saw a lot more people liking it than ever before. Apparently the chemistry was too much fun to completely deny at that point. I'm not really sure what the Sokka thing was about. It might have been just a humor thing where the young girl beats up and picks on the guy she likes, and right now that's what I think. I thought at one point that it might have been to make it not absolutely certain that Sukka would happen and to keep fangirls on edge, and yet, the moment the crush was introduced, Sokka got with Sukka. The crush itself didn't seem to serve much purpose, so I guess it was just for humor, though I can't say I found it very funny. It was just...there. Whatev. There wasn't enough there for me to think that it was love, and she didn't seem too torn up when Sokka got together with Suki. Lastly, I knew the thing in the finale was for laughs, but I couldn't. I was too disappointed. Zuko you meany

I like to think there is some significance in the fact that she never gave him an embarrassing (though highly accurate) nick-name...
And I don't think Zuko not wanting to hear about Toph's tragic past was mean...they had more important things to do at the time...he was just getting her to focus on that.

I don't know, I thought those were more affectionate than anything. I wanted her to call him Princess. I always liked that better than Sparky. And I don't think Zuko not wanting to hear about Toph's tragic past was mean...they had more important things to do at the time...he was just getting her to focus on that. I know. It was meant for humor, I just don't exactly see how that was funny...

Oh, they're affectionate...but why didn't Zuko get one? She was as affectionate towards him as she was anyone else. New art! I.O.U by Yukina Chun

Oh, they're affectionate...but why didn't Zuko get one? She was as affectionate towards him as she was anyone else. I still think they're terms of endearment, especially since Toph's way of showing affection is punching you. What better way to supplement that than degrading nicknames? I don't know why she didn't give him a nickname. Maybe she just didn't get much time with him. She didn't get much one on one interaction with him other than in the finale and EIP, and I just don't think they were trying to develop Toph that much during Season 3. I don't think there's any deeper explanation for Toph not giving him a nickname other than the writers just not thinking about it or forgetting it :/ Cute fanart

Im actually going to have to agree with Nandi on this one. Anything that shows Toph acting towards Zuko in a way that is unique from how she treats others, is good for Toko.
It would have been verry easy for M&B to give Zuko a nickname. I like to think they did it for the same reason they have her showing Zuko so much respect. (tough never so much as it would suggest she thinks of him as superior to her.)
Its easy to give your friends nicknames, because you define them more narrowly. But if you love someone, or at least greatly respect or admire them, then you see them as a more three dimensional entity. You respect everything about them, so you do not confine your perceptions of them by only focusing on one aspect of them.
(but if I had to pick a good nickname for Zuko, I think it would be Sunshine... But she would only use his nickname when she was angry)
PS: Nandi needs to get on writing fan fics.
PPS: FN chibi katara Icon is gross.
