~|EarthbenderM|~ and Yoshiko: When I saw Ozai's beard, I just that, "Pharoh!" because it was shapped so much like one (There's a correct term for that Egpytian decoration, because I don't think it was an actually beard, but I forgot.). It just didn't look too much like one of those long thin, Asian style beards to me. I see that now. Very good point. When I saw Ozai I thought that beard looked odd but I couldn't figure out why. Of course -- it was too thick for the typical asian-style beard that you usually see on Avatar. I hope that doesn't mean they're going to start throwing a lot of new cultural influences in. It might become a bit jarring after two seasons of clearly asian influence. With the Guru they threw in Indian and I thought that was a bit jarring so I hope we're not looking at a cultural free-for-all now.

Indian influence wasn't jarring. India's an Asian country.
As long as they creators don't get desperate and throw in all of that medieval Europe @#$%.

^^ You're right of course, but the Guru was a very different type of character from the ones they've had. I'd just prefer not to have a free-for-all. It's only three season after all and only 22 minutes each. So we settle nicely into Asian (not Indian Asian) and then suddenly in the last twenty episodes they start throwing in Egyptian, African, medieval Europe, maybe they'll even have some cowboys, Vikings and highlanders.
That's all I'm saying. If it's going to be a cultural free-for-all, do it from the beginning. Don't get around to it at the end.

^^So everything should just be Chinese and Japanese? Like that combination's not new. Sorry but you have to think outside the box. The creators of Avatar are taking a new direction with the elemental television genre by going away from traditional European influences and going into other cultures and giving them some credit, and that is why I actually watch Avatar. They're gathering cultural influences not just from "Stereotypical Asia" (I'm sorry if this offends people, but to most people, Asia only has two countries: China and Japan. And I'm disappointed that most people don't even recognize the 30+ other countries that make up the Asian continent as a whole, including the Middle East, and all of the islands. And what do you mean by "Indian Asia" exactly?) but every region of Asia, from the Middle East to Southeast Asia (where India is located, so I guess that's what you meant by "Indian Asia.") and even to Indigneous America. I see nothing wrong with. Besides, if they just kept with the Chinese and the Japanese influence, Avatar would just be another crappy attempt at American Anime.

Austraila and New Zealand are often lumped into Asia as well...though I think the whole area's called Oceania now...

^^ No because things do look a bit different. There are more clues. But I can see I'm not being completely clear so I won't say anything more about it.
Back to Ozai's face though. I thought it was too much build-up for too little pay-off. I wonder how much we'll actually see of him after all this too.
I knew he wouldn't have a scar because Jee thought Zuko's scar was a training accident (in The Storm) and it would have been known if Ozai had a scar like that.
Instead it was just kind of ... ho hum.

^Yeah I think all Australia, New Zealand Micronesia and er, the other two "-nesias" are all considered Oceania. But if it's actually considered a continent is a dispute because most of those little islands are territories of mainland countries.

I absolutely agree. ^_^ And I know how it feels for people to be like, "That's Asian...?" XD When I saw Ozai last night, whoa I couldn't believe it--he was good looking. And whoever said that Zuko lost his fangirls to his father may be right...lol Now that we've seen Ozai's face, out of his children who takes after him in looks? I can't see Azula or Zuko really.
