I always figured Zuko was a honeymoon baby...so if Ozai and Ursa married at 16, as seems to be the Avatar norm...then Zuko could have been born to a pair of barely 17 year-olds...which could have led to the 'lucky to be born' bit because Ursa's still developing body wasn't up to the rigours of childbirth...
So that would make Ozai 33 to 34 years old...looks about right...

I don't think Ozai had any special reasons for burning Zuko...it WAS an Agni Kai, after all. And isn't the only way to officially win an Agni Kai to burn your opponent? If you ask me, the burn wasn't anything other than winning the match. Ozai's real punishment was the banishment. This is the Fire Nation...odds are burns scars are fairly common. He didn't have to burn his FACE, though. He could have just burned his arm or stomach or something.

His face is godly. Godly. As for his character, I've never hated Ozai, nor disliked him for that matter. I always thought he had a good side to him, deep beneath the trenches of his seemingly cold heart, as I believe that no person is ever truly and fully evil. I really hope we see more background on him though, such as his relationship with Ursa and what he was like before he became a power-hungry tyrant. IAWTC. I don't think Azula is evil, either, for that matter. Nurture over nature, I've always said, with a side dose of Fire Nation crazy. I'm positive that we'll see more of him (that's a "no duh" moment from yours truly), and his daughter, and the complexities of their royal life. I just went to Heaven without that awful dying part, LOL. I don't think Ozai had any special reasons for burning Zuko...it WAS an Agni Kai, after all. We're talking Fire Nation royalty here, those of which must do everything of a grand scale: agnsting, lying, getting owned by Avatars, etc. All joking aside, I actually mean it. Why should the Fire Lord burn his son's stomach when he can burn his face?

Fire Lord Ozai is on fi-ya. Literally.
And did anyone notice Firelord Ozai's ancient Egyptian influence?

He does kinda look Ancient Egyptian! I just realized that. But he looks more fatherly than evil. I though he would be older like 50s but he looks more in his 30s. I cant wait to see his mad firebending skills.

The point is that Oazi could have killed Zuko, I mean do you know how many burn victims die from flame wounds?

I think Zuko just lost his fan girls to his father. ROFL
Anyway I don't know I can't trust him completely but I think he may have some redeeming qualities but that remains to be seen. I'm also a little worried about how fast he just said okay come home. Then again Azula did the talking so I can see him taking anything she says to heart.

Something else I noticed. Ozai looks like he's in his 30a while Iroh looks aound 60. o.o Ila could've had Iroh at a young age (like 15-16), but 30 years later, she would've been though menopause already! Unless Ozai is in his 40s.

I've always placed him at around 40, and his looks don't change that. Royal siblings are known to be far apart in age, sometimes. Marie Antoinette was a good decade or two younger than her oldest brother, for example. I think Ila had Iroh young (like 15 or 16), abstained for whatever reason, and the got busy and conceived the smexy goodness that is Ozai about 15 or 20 years later.
@blind Bandit: I don't know if I can agree with the redeeming qualities part. I mean, every character has their good side. We now know that Azula actually likes her friends from the magazine, instead of just using them. Friends are friends for a reason; no one in the world would call an evil girl their friend for ten years unless she actually acted like one. So in the same way, Ozai may have good qualities, but I think he's still our villain and I doubt that fact will change.

Iroh could look much older b/c of the weight of the loss of his son. He obviously took that pretty hard.

I just thought they shouldn't have hidden his face for so long because I didn't think the reveal was all that earth-shattering. It was too built up for what it was. I said on another thread I thought he didn't look real. Kind of like a cyborg or like the sasori puppet on Naruto Shippuden (if any of you have seen it maybe you know what I mean). Beautiful but not alive. I'm still convinced he's evil though. I refuse to be a sucker for a pretty face.

I thought that since his face was covered for two seasons that he should look way different.
He should of had a scar like Zuko!

~|EarthbenderM|~ and Yoshiko: When I saw Ozai's beard, I just that, "Pharoh!" because it was shapped so much like one (There's a correct term for that Egpytian decoration, because I don't think it was an actually beard, but I forgot.). It just didn't look too much like one of those long thin, Asian style beards to me.
