ASK GREG BALDWIN A DH Forums Exclusive Yep, he's here on the DH forums. Ain't this site great, ladies and gentlemen? We get voice actors to come here all the time! Now if only Dante Basco will show his face around here...but that's another story. Mr. Baldwin is willing to answer any questions you have relating to the Avatar universe; however, as he clearly stated, "I will not answer anything that goes beyond the episodes we have seen on TV," that is, he will not reveal spoilers. Regrettably so. >> But the flip side is that we can ask even more hidden and interwoven questions found within the episodes, such as Kataang *Shot* everything else! For instance, Q: "Greg, what is your favorite color?" A: "Fuchsia!" Like that. (I don't know what Mr. Baldwin's favorite color is, I was just using it as an example, so you can ask him.) Oh, and Mr. Baldwin said, "So long as it isn't Algebra," so I don't think that he'll be of great assistance with your Math homework, guys. Sorry. But Differential and Integral Calculus isn't something he said he's bad at, so why don't you ask him that?Go wild. Be respectful. The mods are watching you. ADMIN NOTE: Please remember that the forum rules apply. Well will be monitoring this thread (as well as participating ). [/i][/u] EDIT (Falthor): Do keep in mind to keep it settled in terms of relationships, guys. That is mostly theoretical and also discusses things in the plot that will happen, so keep it at a level that does not talk about Season III plot, etc.

"Greg, will your voice sound more strong like(in terms of Iroh's new strong body)?"

If you ever had to fall back on a second career choice, what would it be?

Sorry to bombard you here, Greg, but how exactly does one enter into the world of voice acting? It's something I would be interested in someday, but I have no theater experience (well, outside stuff I've done in school, way back in the day) - how do you break in?

I'm basically asking the same thing luthien is asking, but Mr. Baldwin, how would one go about auditioning for the new season of Avatar?

Hello, all! As I've said before, I've been posting on forums since the days when I had a desk job and discovered an entertaining and highly efficient method of wasting company time. So this is as much fun for me as it is for you, believe me! Here goes...
I don't know if the creators and writers intended it...but I think it's brilliant that Iroh has a new body to go with a voice that's based on Mako in his forties when he starred on Broadway in "Pacific Overtures". Yes, I think by virture of my only being 47 years old the voice will sound stronger. Alas...not as nuanced as Mako's.
Second career? I enjoy writing lyrics. I would liked to have written lyrics for the musical theatre. I"ve written two (both unproduced pieces): "A Texas Carol" and "Commies: A Red Revue".
The world of voice acting is not an easy world to break into. It took me from 1987 (when I moved to LA) until 2006. Basically...there are about twenty extraordinarily talented individuals who do 95% of all the work. That being said...nothing's impossible with talent and perseverance. Here are some tips:
1. Do as much theatre as you can. Voice acting is...first and foremost...ACTING.
2. Learn to do as many dialects and different voices as you can. You're more marketable if you can do more voices. I'ts cost effective when producers can pay one guy to do three voices.
3. Live in the Los Angeles area.
4. Have a means of making $$$ to support yourself while pursuing the voiceover career. For years...I worked in the Business and Legal Affairs department of a giant multinational entertainment giant whose name shall go unmentioned but whose beloved corporate symbol is a rodent.
Good luck!

The first thing that jumped into my head was: "FOX?" I need help, rofl. Thanks for the reply. I was curious about the second career because it often says something about a person.

Heh, I didnt know you went on DH so frequently.
Do you plan on primarily immitating Mako's style for the series, or are you interested in taking the role in a different direction at all?

Hello Greg Baldwin
I have a question:
1. what character did you voice in BioShock? I have already beaten the game however if it is a spoiler for anyone else then either darken it or PM me the answer.
Thanks Mr. Baldwin and I hope you stay in the forums

"I didnt know you went on DH so frequently."
This ties into another question...what am I doing now?
Very little. Business is slow so I have very little to do until I pick up the kids from school. These days...I send in most of my auditions via email.
I think it would be a disservice to the fans and to the memory of Mako to try and take Iroh's character in a whole new direction. If Nick had wanted that, they probably would have hired someone with a name.
I played Fontaine (NOT Atlas) in "Bioshock". I believe they may have electronically alterred my voice somewhat.

Well, that's because he's online. If he weren't, then I'd assume it wouldn't be answered so quickly. XD
Mr. Baldwin, why did you choose to pursue a career in the acting field?

Why acting? It's simply what I always wanted to do...ever since I played "Dr. Doolittle" in the 4th grade.
