Aang is misunderstood, quite frankly. I've seen people condemn him for behaviors that have been no worse than anything Katara or Zuko or anyone else has done. Such as hiding the map from Bato in Ep. 15. He wasn't being malicious. He was scared of being left alone. he did what he did out of fear and then guilt caught up and he admitted what he had done even at the risk of losing Katara and Sokka's friendship.
Aang's character has undergone changes without changing everything about him and what makes him who he is. He's growing up, but he's still easygoing Aang.
And as the series goes on, we'll see more of him. He's a complex character and his internal struggles, his personality, and him being the Avatar could mean a thousand different possiblities on how he continues to develop as a character.

I really can't explain why Aang is my favorite character, I simply adore him. I think it's his sweet personality that won me over. I'll tell you what if I was 12 I'd be all over him....what a cutie! ;D
Has anyone else noticed that Avatar has become more about Zuko than anyone else? The writers are always diving into Zuko's past. The story they never tell is Aang's past. I would love to know more about where Aang came from (well more than what we already know). I mean where's his father/mother? He had to have one, right?

Yeah, a little bit more back info would be good. Even on air nomads in general. We get snippets here and there, but nothing terribly informative. We got a little bit of Aang's past in terms of how he found out about him being the Avatar, but that's been about it.

I am a Zuko fangirl all the way but the show is called Avatar the last Airbender not Zuko the Banished Prince. I want to know about Aang's parents especially his mother since mothers seem to be an important part of the characters lives. Watching Aang mature and grow is going to be fascinating. He starts out this very sweet, innocent, naive kid who has this huge responsibility placed on him. He'll have to face pain and hardship and do battle with real darkness. That is a lot for any one much less a 12-year-old kid.

Agreed. I think Aang has a really difficult time ahead of him. It's going to be interesting to watch how all of this is going to pan out. I am hoping that somewhere along the line background information on Aang will start to be revealed.

Aang is cool...probably my second favorite...hes real easy to like...out of all the characters he is probably more willing to make friends then anyone else. You could probably blame that on him not being around for a hundred years though. I want more character development on Aang...he had the most in the episode called 'The Storm'. Aang himself probably knows a heck of alot more about his past then just that one event...being told he is Avatar....running away before being sent to the east...concealing himself and appa in an air pocket after falling into the ocean...waking up in kATARA'S ARMS. Maybe one of the characters will ask him more about himself later... The best part about what you said is that we do in fact see Aang develop in character. it's there and in my eyes it is very obvious, but it is subtle. He is very realistic in terms of growing up: He was once an immature, naive boy who was oblivious to the destruction of the world and his responsibility, and now he is still that fun-loving boy we love, but now he knows (and accepts) his responsibility. And now he is doing it more and more. I hate Toph for saying that he doesn't take things head on, because he does. He didn't run away (even though he wanted to) when Azula was tracking him. He remained where he was and fought her off, because he knew he had to. It was a harsh realization for him, and I know that it hurt him inside. And when Toph was training him, he didn't give up. He needed to think and come to terms of what he had to do, and he did it, even though it took some time. And he uses his resources. He isn't one to simply rely on luck. I don't care what Toph says, he already listens and waits, he just does it differently than some people. He also uses the people around him for help and advice, especially when he knows he needs it. Not many people can do that.

So true plus there are not many people that can put up with Toph's attitude....Katara certianly didn't.

I look forward to the writers doing an all Aang episode. That would be nice: a good look into his past and his thoughts and all of that jazz, with the important people of his past getting spotlighted. Then we can see the real Aang even more.
