Back on topic: It's amazing looking back on aang from the Pilot to now! Yeah, he was very happy-go-lucky back then!

Yea, both in personality and the animation. Their characters (animation wise) have smoothed out. Cause, let's take Zuko for example. His chin used to be like super-pointy and now it's not. I just like things like that. Happens with all animation. Rugrats, Simpsons....

The trouble with evolving character designs and new voices for characters is that i start to hate the old episodes for looking different

Agreed. I always can't help wincing a little when I watch the very early episodes of the Simpons for that very reason, the contrast in the look of it is so jarring. Anyway, to get back to Aang - he's just a great little chap. I can't commend the writers enough for coming up with such a beautifully realised character. He manages to be an hyperactive dopey little kid-brother figure but still completely lovable. I don't think there's a person around who could say a word against Aang, gripes about character design evolution aside... The voice acting is also superb. I couldn't imagine anyone else speaking for Aang, he's got such a distinct sound and personality.

I was thinking about the simpsons evolution when i made that post. Back on topic now, at first i really hated Aang because he was too cheerful and annoyingbut now i apreciate him more as a character. The design is excellent imo and so is the acting. And if you think about it, it is very rare when a child character is portrayed so well. Usually a 12 year old would wind up being what an adult writer thinks a 12 yr old is, but Aang feels like an actual 12 yr old.

Yes, you've hit the nail on the head, that's exactly where Aang's appeal lies.
While much of his past got explained in 'The Storm', I'm still rather curious to learn even more about Aang, to go even further back, like, who are his mother and father? Maybe these questions get answered later on.

Does Aang ever change his clothes?!?! He only had those clothes when he got frozen in the iceburg and we didnt see him pick up new clothes at any of the air temples. So we could probably assume he never changes. Does katara or sokka wash his clothes? What does he wear when s/he does wash them? Does s/he wash his little underwear thingie? If s/he does what does aang wear when its getting washed? If s/he doesnt, eeew.

Aang and company probably just wash their clothes secretly. ;D Probably in the woods where they can hide in the bushes. And in Episode 4 (?), Warriors of Kyoshi Island, we saw Aang take off his clothes to ride the fish thing and he had underwear: firebender.com/w4/images/54.jpgThere, problem solved. As for Sokka or Katara... I don't know. Here's a pic of Sokka though: firebender.com/w4/images/38.jpg*dies laughing*

I love Aang. It is so mutch responsibility for a 12 yr. old boy, but he has the friends and the determenation to do it, and win the war. I have totaly faith in him ( hugs Aang )

the thing I liked about Aang is that he never wanted to be the avatar, or the hero. but that is actually the first sign of a hero, one who does not concider themselves a hero for doing what he or she feels is right. of course in that respect even Zuko could be concidered a hero, but lets not get into that dynamic. I find Aang an interesting main character, he is not ultra super powerful all the time, heck he can barely handle his powers sometimes. But I do think Aang has evolved a little over the time, perhaps not a lot but enough to know that if he is going to keep balance he must respect everyone... thats why he saved Zuko's life in siege in the north part 2, he knew he could not just let Zuko die, he knew that if he died he would be no better then the firenation and I think deep inside I think Aang has feelings for Zuko, not anything like romance or anything, but feelings of regret that he could not befriend him due to Zuko's quest to find Aang and capture him.
I think Aang will evolve and at the end I think he will bring balance back to the four nations

The characters no doubt wash their clothes although they don't put it in the series cause washing clothes isn't very exciting. Katara and Sokka if you will notice have two sets of clothes: the warmer ones with the parkas and the ones they wear most of the time. Zuko has different outfits that we see which makes sense seeing as how he is a prince. Aang as far as I know looks like he has only one outfit. He probably has to wait off in some spring while Katara washes his clothes.

Aang only had one set of clothes when he was frozen from what i can tell. Either he gets naked and hides in a bush while katara washes, or he never washes his undies. Thats why they are brown.
