psylum, well, that's just my personal preference. I'm not saying Aang isn't mature. He's very mature for a kid his age, but like it was argued a couple of pages back, I wouldn't want to see a twelve year old involved in a serious romantic relationship. Not because he isn't mature enough, but because that's just what I feel. Things like Zutara DO happen in real life, I think I should point out, just like Kataang ALSO happen in real life. I just see Taang Zutara as being more epic, just like you Kataangers see it the other way around But that's the double standard I'm talking about. He's not old enough to be in a romance, but yet he should take on this burden he bears almost adult-like, if not more than adult.

Well, I'll just have to disagree with you, yiceman; as long as there is an Avatar, he/she will have within him/her the ability to airbend and waterbend, and thus be an airbender and a waterbender. The balance will still exist, it's just slightly off-balanced; all 4 elements will still be represented. If the Avatar is gone, then the balance will NEVER be reestablished. Having little hope of being reestablished with a weakened Avatar and having the balance never be reestablished due to a complete lack of an Avatar are 2 very different things.

So is the answer to never attempt to reestablish a connection to the Avatar State again? I don't see how that works narratively. They just leave that plot line hanging in the breeze. It has to be readdressed.
Aang needs to make the choice, that much is evident. I don't think they can just never go back to it again.

Oh, I'm sure they will go back to it again. It's just that with the time remaining, if it was a choice between learning firebending and learning to control the Avatar State, I'd choose the former.

He's already learned most of what it takes to control the avatar state. He just didn't do it. He can do both at the same time.

Right, it's not really a choice. Believe it or not, the Avatar State appears to be just as if not more important to the Avatar than the four elements. It's his connection to his past lives...to the spirit world. Notice how he glows when entering into the spirit world? Maybe he'd be able to do that at will if he could control the AS.

Aang can go into the Spirit World at will. I mean, all he has to do is meditate, right?

I feel like he's only gone into the spirit world at will once and he was in the spirit oasis at the North Pole staring at the ocean and moon spirits at the time. That's a lot of support. All the other times he was sort of sucked in.
I may be forgetting a time though.

It seems to only happen when he's in a spiritual place. He can't do it anywhere.

True - he has to be in a spiritual place, or it has to happen during a spiritual time (the solstices, for instance). It's not something he's able to just sit down and do.

God that's a hard one. I don't know which one will conquer over the other. It's possible based on wheither:
A. Who Katara likes
B. If Zuko likes Katara
C. If Aang still like Katara, which is a defeinate yes
D. How their friends look at it
E. If the relashionship can even survive one day
F. If Katara changes her mind about Zuko, again
G. If Zuko is willing to be very open-minded and not Nationalistic like his father and sister
There, there are some reasons why Kataang or Zutara, or both might happen at the same time.
Right now it's too hard for me to decide who will go with who. But those are the points that I am clearly making.

I don't think we can be that sure of when Aang can go into the Spirit world; the problem being that he's never tried and failed. He's always succeeded.

Romance and fighting are two very different things. Love is...well, it's a different kind of maturity, I think at least. That's not to say he isn't mature now, just it's a different level of maturity. Also, it's not having to take things adult-like, but understanding what comes first and how to prioritize. btw, off-topic, but happy birthday pg15! ^^
