^Does that make the sharpening of the image less sharp; like if you duplicated the base layer, sharpened it and lowered the opacity of the dupliacted layer to get a less sharp image? Because if so, I would think that would be acceptable; but I'm not completely sure, gambita would probably be able to tell you the answer better.

Ah, alright, I think it's fine, since it doesn't involve making another layer. ^__^
Oh, and when I'm talking about the Fade feature, it's after you apply a blur or anything on an image, you go over to the EDit bar, and it's under "Fade." I mght be the only one who has this, having Photoshop 7.0.

I have a question. The picture for my icon is rather dark, is it alright we can alter the image (i.e. lighten) as long as it only has one layer?
I don't think so; I think you have to pick a lighter image or just do with what you have; it's a crop contest basically; and that only includes blurring and sharpening images as gambita said, so probably no; because then the line would be really blurred to what you can accept and what you can't; and if you allowed lightening of images, people would ask about other things you can do to it as well besides what gambita said in the first post.
