Her eyes are obviously gone; otherwise we would only see the bottom "line" (really that small line of eyebrows on your bottom eyelid, check it out in the mirror), but instead we see both the upper AND lower eyebrows, indicating that her eyes are open. But there's nothing there. I thought the upper arc was the shadow of the indentation where the eyelid creases. No matter. I'm willing to believe they're gone. What does Toph need eyes for anyway? Actually the eye thing goes along with what I see as a 'blind fighting/bending' theme they've got going. Aang training blindfolded, Sokka blinding Piandao in their fight, but P still being able to find him. Toph's obvious ability. It just seems there's a theme going on with sighted/non-sighted fighting. I wonder if it will come to something.

Being blind makes you think someone will be really terrible at a physical/visual art like fighting, but the martial arts trope is that they always turn out to actually be masters. Plus, there's something about using your intuition and other senses than your vision. Like the scene in Star Wars where Obi-Wan has Luke fight the remote blind.

The missing eyes was probably for shock value. In most cultures that I've studied, tales of things like Zombies or other beings who are missing their souls are shown with devoid eyes (Completely white, glassed over, un-focusing, something of that nature.). This would be something that people from most cultures would recognize as "wrong" (Missing eyes, or close there to.) and thus would have an immediate effect on viewers.
On a side note, they made us train blind folded in Judo and Ju-Jitsu (Not Jiu-Jitsu from Brazil) because body contact and feeling weight shift is important.

one word..... dumb... I'm kind of disappointed this season - some of the episodes were good and maybe in a longer season it would not have mattered - but this season seems so short and it seems like hardly anything has happened. Now we are coming to the end and it sort of feels empty.. Exactly What I was gonna say! *Karma* I think it's because most of the episodes this season, like this episode, were kinda just to buy time for the season finale.

This episode is kind of an intermission. The writers wanted to give us this funny episode just to lead up to Day of Black Sun. All it did was prepare for DoBS. Anyway, it is hilarious. My fav. part has gotta be when Appa and Momo start talking in Aang's daydream, and then have that huge fight. Rofl! And I agree that Season 3 is starting to feel a little empty. Apart from DoBS, and the episodes after, there has been almost nothing of relevance. It's a bit of a shame. The end of the show is coming up, and it feels like there's barely been anything

I loved this episode. I loved Aangs cracked up dream with no pants...xD I still loved his hair and still wished aang would keep like it was in this episode. Momo and Aapa fighting was the funniest thing ever though, although the flying bison sounded like a bouncer. lol. "your not wearing pants"

I take it that Dee Bradley Baker also did the talking voices for Momo and Appa?
"You my friend are a few plums short of a fruit pie." Classic!

This episode was mediocre. I don't find Aang's nightmares particularly funny.
I was more intrigued with the Zuko parts. Mai and Zuko doing some hard core snuggling, Mai being very supportive and loving, Zuko being waited on by servants etc was interesting to see. Boy, mention Azula and a war meeting he doesn't know about and he gets all upset. Anyway, Zuko has his epiphany in this episode. He realizes that being Ozai's perfect prince son is not who he really is. Thank God, Zuko!!!! Nightmares and Daydreams gets points just for that.

I could have done without the Zuko bits to be honest even though it ties in with the Pheonix King episode. And Katara got to show her good motherly side instead of the nagging grumpy sulking side that comes accross so strongly in the latter half of Book 3.
