^^Yeah, but even the comic made it all rushed with them. It was stated they had a CRUSH, now maybe I'm wierd, but crushes don't normally play tonsil hockey, that's left for RELATIONSHIPS. There is a huge difference between the two. Heck, the magazine didn't take the time to explain much either. I do feel bad for those who haven't read the comic, it must have confused them all to heck. Although all the comics were cute in thier own way, they all left gaps and things that still left you wanting more explaination. I've been thinking, and like what ATLA does A LOT, we might get a flashback or two about this, to fill in the ones who can't get the magazine. It seems possible since everything was just up in the air in the first episode. They're probably have a few flashbacks of Zuko and the Gaang during the gap after Aang was shot...

sifukatara24Apparently Toph was so damned amazing that they decided to give her five lines in the entire episode. Really, Toph didn't get to do much of anything in the entire episode. The writers only bring in Toph when they want her to smash something. She didn't serve any other role in the episode, and it's become increasingly common for her to have very few lines with a lot of smashing. She's become the least interesting character on the entire show. And come on, was Bato's ONE line really that funny? As for Yue, her purpose in the episode was nothing more than a deus ex machina. I mean, they actually had god come from the sky! I'm sorry that you didn't like the interaction between Azula and Zuko, but that was definitely the best written, and most believable, part of the show.

While I was saddened by the lack of Toph Time there were plenty of Tophisms to keep me placated.
As for Yue;
Many have seen her as a deus ex machina, and while I did think to my self when I first saw her I thought " well that's that's kind of random"
But if you think about it she will have a HUGE roll in the The Day of the Black Sun, since SHE will be the one covering up the Sun, so I think her appearance is more like...I think the word I am looking for is foreshadowing (got a headache, spelling is being enough of a pain).
It's like; "Hi, still the moon spirit and I'll be back later."
EDIT: too many typos!!!! *takes a asprin*

It's not so much the lack of Toph time that bothers me, it's the lack of Toph doing anything remotely interesting that helps develop her character. I mean, look at Sokka. He didn't get many more lines than Toph, but his presence in the episode was much more interesting and important. I really don't understand why the writers seem to be abandoning Toph. She has a large amount of fans and was extremely popular after The Blind Bandit. My guess is that they believe that most fans will be content with her bending impressively rather than actually saying or doing anything with meaning.

Since I'm far too lazy to look back over 40+ pages, there's something I've been wondering. A lot of people said they saw Jin in the episode, but did anyone other than me notice that Hope was in the episode, too? Yup, here's the screenshot: Darryl - I thought there was a site that you could order the magazine from an international country.....

But I doubt she's going to start throwing tsunamis everywhere cause that- though would be pretty cool- would definitely be a Deus Ex Machina. It's not so much the lack of Toph time that bothers me, it's the lack of Toph doing anything remotely interesting that helps develop her character. I mean, look at Sokka. My guess is that they believe that most fans will be content with her bending impressively rather than actually saying or doing anything with meaning. Exactly. Toph's awesomeness is being eclipsed by Katara's fighting and emotions in every flipping episode (not including "The Blind Bandit"). Katara's cool and has developed a lot but she just KEEPS ON DEVELOPING AND GROWING which is really cutting into Toph's time. Darn it, I want more Toph! It wouldn't kill the show if Katara's role didn't take up a third of an episode's plot every episode. I think the creators and other people have forgotten about Toph since she wasn't present during the first season and beginning of season two; we got so used to just the three having such a different face thrown in really upset the group dynamics. The Avatar people must be having such a hard time with Toph in their midst (and the fact that she's not social) and so just use her to fight and say one liners.

I don't see Toph like that...I mean I see where you guys are coming from, but I think she's going to have a lot more to do in this season that what we've seen so far... There are just little moments in "The Awakening" that tell me that she's going to be developed as someone with a kick-a** attitude but a heart of gold when it comes to her friends...such as her tone of voice when she realizes Aang is there (and, of course, she's the first one to notice he's there...) There was a warmth and relief in her voice that was very touching, IMO... Not to mention she's the only one of the Gaang to have a term of endearment for him..."twinkle toes" It began as a derogatory term, but eventually became a way to show her respect and affection for Aang... There's an unwavering loyalty that I think is born of her innate strength (gotta be the earthbender in her... ) and I have a feeling we're going to see a lot more of that... Bottom line, she's the earth component of the Gaang, and that's no small thing...the rock of the group can't go quietly into that good night, my friends...
