I loved The Southern Raiders. It told us WHY Katara's mother was killed. It had great bending. Good drama.
Sokka and Suki "hinting" things! XDDD
I don't really have a worst episode...

I loved The Southern Raiders. I'd invite you to read this post by ASN user Nabanean (not because I want to crush your spirits or anything, but because I think it communicates pretty effectively why I think that TSR falls into the bottom tier of Avatar episodes): When I finished watching, I realized that Katara hadn't really taken a single step forward in sorting out her feelings about her mom's killer. If you're going to spend an Avatar episode on Katara's search for her mother's killer, I'm going to want more from it than, "I give you hugs now Zuzu," by the time it concludes. Mahatista posted something in the TSR thread that I thought was really well put: The whole show had this subtle feeling of contrivance that is always absent from the best Avatar episodes. Zuko miraculously knows about Kya's murderer, Katara and Zuko track him down with lightning speed, Katara refuses to exact revenge on him, doesn't learn anything from it, and Zuko and Katara become fast friends (double meaning there) at the very, very, VERY end. We finally discover why Kya was killed, but we don't feel strongly enough about it because we were never allowed to grow close to her character. She did the noble thing, but it comes out as nothing more than "what any mother would do." And that is a shame, because some restructuring and a little more focus on Katara's mother could have made this a decent episode. Take a look at Nabanean's comments under "Pacing" and you'll get a better idea of what I'm talking about when I say "could have been."

Some of my worst episodes would have to be any episodes that do not advance the plot whatsoever. (i.e. Great Divide, Nothern Air Temple, Fortune Teller) If Tales of Ba Sing Se was ALL Momo and Iroh I would love it. Avatar Day didnt advance the plot either but it was entertaining to me. The Southern Raiders seems to have very mixed reviews. I personally liked it because of the backstory of Kya, Katara forgiving Zuko, and pure awesome action. But yeah I hate those episodes I mentioned above.

I have a lot of issues with the second half of The Southern Raiders (I'm with Aang- "What exactly do you think this will accomplish?") but especially with how the shippers still don't see how off Katara's and Zuko's chemistry is, even when the situation is contrived the way they want it. I loved Zuko's chemistry with the rest of the Gaang, though. I bet it would have been better if not for time constraints. While TSR is not one of the Best, it's not one of the worst in my book. I thought Avatar Day was the worse episode. The minor characters were horrible (towns-people), they weren't memorable at all and were very annoying. I think it was more painful to watch then the great divide. I just think the only reason why Avatar Day redeemed itself was because we got to see the backstory of avatar kyoshi, which I enjoyed alot. Nope, it's because Zuko was in Avatar day and not The Great Divide.

Southern Raiders was a very choppy episode. On average, Avatar episodes are 24 minutes long. The Southern Raiders was under twenty, and thus had less time for any sort of flow.

I say The Ember Island Players It's to weird, disgusting and freaky [scream] the characters in the play were scary, though it was funny when "toph" screamed in "Aang" and "Katara's" face!

DUDE, STOP POSTING THAT VID EVERYWHERE AND GET OVER THE FACT THAT KATAANG HAPPENED. Even as someone who likes Kataang, I thought it was pretty lame of them to end the season with it. Actually, it was just a little out of order: I think it would have been better to do the kiss, then fade away to Zuko visiting his father as the last scene. But as for Worst Episode, I'd definitely go with The Southern Raiders or the Finale Episodes. All five seemed really rushed and smashed together at the last minute.

^^ "Journeys end in lovers meeting, Every wise man's son doth know." There was only one way this 'Journey' was ever going to conclude and that was it. Anyway, there are enough fans up in arms about Zuko's question left hanging. If they had used that as the ending, there may have been a riot at the comic con.

Wasn't there a semi-where-is-zuko's-mom?-riot at comic con 08 and the world wide web? xD I don't care much for the great divide, nor the southern raiders...because it was a dark episode.

Not exactly the worst but the most painful episode for me is Bato of the Water Tribe because it shows Aang behaving in a shameful manner.

I didn't think STR was a bad episode, it just needed to have some flow. I admit that the storyline for that episode was choppy (they had one scene, then jumpted to another scene with some diff problem, or something like that). It didn't quit flow smoothly, but it wasn't that bad. At least the show gave us some info and background info on how Katara's mom died and how and why the North Pole(or was it South Pole?) was under alot of conflict...
