Re: Attonibus & Wyrmking
Oh ok, that makes sense then. I guess it isn't impossible to bend glass, although the rarity of it might be an issue.

^ i completely agree about the rarity of glass. I could see the EK using thinly sliced crystals as a substitute though.

do they even have glass? well, i know they do but i don't think it is significant. i think it's just one of those things that isn't meant to be bent, like wood, or cabbages.

Look all this element stuff is arbitrary. If the creators want glass to be bendable than it will be. The whole idea of Earthbenders not being able to bend metal, that was just to make a war between the Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom one that the Earth Kingdom guys could be losing. Establishing metal as "processed" earth is just arbitrary. We know in reality that it isn't anywhere near that simple. Earth isn't a separate entity from the metals and minerals that compose it. Glass would definitely fall under Earthbending umbrella being composed of sand. But we don't wanna go all Harry Potter 5 here, so I say we not bring glass to the creator's attention.
O and btw lenses are made of glass today. That's the only way to make accurate telescopes and microscopes.

There was also glass in that weird magnifying glass hat thing Sokka was wearing in Avatar Day screenshots.avatarspiritmedia.net/205/088.jpgAnd I don't mean to be a party pooper or anything like that, but when I first read "glass bending" I thought to myself "Why would anyone need to bend glass? It's fragile." Hahaha. I don't think there is a need for glass benders. Even if there was I'd roll my eyes scoff at the super team that is the Gaang. Metal/blood/glass benders, oh my! ^ Really saying everything in jest, I re-read and re-wrote it, but it still seems to be worded jerky like. It's a very good question/ theory but my mind just can't wrap around it. Glass is breakable...my brain is not moving past that point. Sleep deprivation does things like that to me... Anyway. This has me thinking about gas bending though...which, oddly enough, is not at all humorous to me. Could a waterbender bend gas? Or maybe I should make another thread instead of bootlegging Wyrmkings topic...sorry about that lol.

Except there's not a lot of glass in the Avatar world. Anyway, it was just a question. So chill out. And actually they did say metal is a part of earth, it's just that it loses its bendableness when the minerals composing it are processed. That's nice and all, but we were talking about eyeglasses. They're made of plastic.

The whole point was that WK was thinking about using it in a fic and wanted to bounce the idea off first.

This is something I've been thinking about for a while, glass (like metal) is just another form of Earth (it's practically pure quartz) so then it should be bendable at least by Toph though it should work for any Earthbender.

adendum to my earlier thought: we have seen looking glasses in a few instances. i cant beleive I forgot that... the lenses could be it could be precion ground or bent quartz, but much more likely are glass. so, it woudl seem the technology is there, but rare?

Fun fact (ish), glass is actually a liquid, with a lot of solid like qualities. So technically, a waterbender would probably have the best chance of bending it. Though I'm really not sure where some stuff like glass falls in the order of bendibility. Take lava for example: is it more fire or earth? All that being said, for the purposes of a fanfic, I don't think it'd be that much of a stretch for an earthbender to bend it. It might just take him a bit to figure it out. Actually, stained glass windows in really really old churches actually sometimes begin to get warped because they slide down. Yay chemistry! I think glass bending would be really really cool for aesthetic purposes.
