now that I think of it the coincidence theory is starting to seem farfetched. But i am keeping the theory that Gyatso and the Guru are part of the system and that Aang knows some sectrets about the society.

I still like to think that they are helpers of the Avatar, he/ she may be the incarnation of the earth/spirits but it is still one person.

I agree, the avatar keeps balance in the world. Maybe they are plan B if the avatar fails to do his duty.

Ok, I looked up white in wikipedia and it said in india white stands for pure and peace. And the lotus in both Egypt and India symbolizes the union of the four elements; earth, air, fire, and water. The roots are in the earth, it grows in and by means of water, its leaves are nourished by air, and it blooms through the power of the sun's fire. The lotus is therefore the perfection of the fourfold order of the natural world. The growth of a new flower directly from the earth-bound original (infloresent proliferation) may be interpreted as a symbol of transcendence as found in Indian philosphophy: a spiritual emergence of a higher world directly from our physical manifestation. It may also be interpreted, as in Egypt, as the exaltation of the essence quality of the lotus. So the Order of the White lotus is(in my opinion) a neutral society that sort of helps to keep balance and peace.

The White Lotus probably doesn't have anything to do with balance and peace. They might believe that rather than 4 separate nations, they are really one people. They also work to preserve the knowledge and arts of everyone, teaching to anyone to ensure its survival, rather than fighting. At least that's the impression I got from Sokka's sword teacher.

I agree with the whole "strategic positioning" thing. Perhaps Jeong Jeong rejected to teach Aang because it was Iroh's assignment... he was just keeping Aang busy, never actually teaching him. he probably knew that Zhao would find them, so he was just waiting for Zhao to come along...

I don't think he was waiting for Zhao to come find him. If he was he would have given himself up. He didn't want to train Aang at all because he wasn't ready. The only reason he trained Aang was because Roku showed up and changed his mind. Jeong Jeong is a smart man but I don't think he he is aware of any of the recent things that has happen so far.

I'm not saying that Jeong Jeong was waiting to get captured. I'm saying that he didn't want to interfere with Iroh's mission.

did you typo? because those two statements seem to contradict eachother. Maybe I didn't phrase it clearly. I meant that the Society isn't about taking over where Aang left off should he fail. They are there for humanity as a whole, preserving knowledge and art, rather than trying to keep the Fire Nation from taking over the world, or the Earth Kingdom doing a counterattack. So, basically, they are like Wong Shi Tong: gathering knowledge for knowledge's sake.

Eek! After last night's episode, I'm surer than ever that Ursa is alive and hiding out with the White Lotus Society!

I still say that Ursa is the creator of the White Lotus. Makes sense to me, anyway
