It's possible that Gyatso was a member and maybe even the Guru. In the first season the Storm when Aang was telling the story it showed them playing pai sho. Unfortunately it isn't good enough proof because it could be a popular game. Than again I don't think it woudl be a couicident that the game that the society is named after would happen to be a popular game. Unless the Society came first and they inteneted the game to teach other people about the society so it' possible that Aand knows some things about it.

I don't think either the game or the order has to directly lead to the other, it could be a coincidence that the game has a lotus tile. It seems more likely that the order is actually named after the flower, and at some point they just decided the game, which already existed and happened to include a lotus tile, would be a convenient way to let one another know they were in the society (because in such a large widespread order it's impossible for everyone to know every member on sight). On the other hand, maybe after the order was founded, they added the lotus tile to the game in an expansion pack...

Aw, man... *kicks tek* You nut. But I do agree ~ the pai sho game was probably just a convenient, prevalent, and unremarked method of communication... just like so many other handy, otherwise ordinary objects throughout history. ;D What I'm really excited about seeing is what Gyatso's involvement with the White Lotus may have been, and how the invasion of the Air Temples played out.

Maybe.. MAYBE THE MONKS ARE PART OF THE WHITE LOTUS!! Yeah..yeah.. I GET IT.. Thats why they knew the war was approaching?! Maybe.. "Storm clouds are gathering.." Pfft.. Over my bald head AND LOOK AT THIS!!!! Look at the center monk's umbrella.. Looks like the white lotus petal... Hm..?

If Ursa were a member of the Society, well that would put an interesting twist on theories whether she's still alive. The Society always appeared to me to be pacifist, more or less. I mean Sokka's master was a master of the sword, but reasons for wanting to master sword techniques differ between people (some use it only as means of self-defense). This enigmatic society intrigues me. Can't wait to learn more about it as the season progresses.

Actually if you remember, the White Lotus is an OPENING, a configuration of pieces that incorporates the White Lotus tile. The man who took Zuko and Iroh to the secret backroom was alerted to Iroh's membership when they played Pai Sho and he used the opening.

I don't know about you guys, but I think that pakku strikes me as a White Lotus member. I wonder if they've met tons of members, and they just don't know it.... like V.F.D. in A Series of Unfortunate Events. they were always there, they just couldn't see it.

^^Nah, not Pakku. His personality is too rigid and hung up on his cultural mores. He's not the kind of guy who sees the bigger picture that the White Lotus seems to represent.

^ that sounds more like something that Kana would be a part of At least when she was younger. Maybe Balto or Hadoka even. Members appear to be in strategic places in the nations.

It will defiantly play a bigger role in the third season then we might anticipate. If Iroh joins the Gaang for some reason, the Gaang could have the members of the White Lotus on their side during the invasion. That would pwn.

I was watching Nicktoons Network earlier today, and "The Deserter" came on. There was a phrase that Chey used to describe Jeong Jeong that caught my ear: he referred to him as "enlightened". That seems to me to be the perfect word to describe any given member of the Order that we've gotten to know thus far. Could Jeong Jeong be in the Order? If this came to pass, it would pretty much make my lifetime.

Also things we don't really know about the Order/Society- was there a gender bias? I mean probably not, cuz there have been female Avatars in the past, but so far we've only met male members.

Good find. In all likelyhood M&B chose the name because the WLS will play a simiar role. I also think the name may refer to a unique aspect of the actual lotus flower. Lotuses represent purity in Eastern culture (plus a lot of other things), because lotus petals are actually coated with a chemical that causes them to never get wet. Water rolls off the leaves, taking bugs, dirt, & other contaminants with it. Hence, purity. That would be consistant wth the idea that the WLS helps maintain the elemental balance, (i.e. the original "pure" state of the world), and all the theories along that line. The creators must have named the White Lotus Society for a reason, right? It must be something like that. Also, Hue coul b a potential member.
