Hi, I'm kind of a new guy. So, I know we've all seen how much of a BAMF Zuko can be with his Dual broadsword firebending, or how suave Aang gets with his Glider/staff, and of course the furious pwnage of Kyoshi with her fans for everything, but this leaves me wondering, what about the other possible weapon/bending combinations? Let's start with what we already have: +Earth bending we've seen with hammers in Zuko Alone. we've seen aang use his glider to earthbend. the dai li's gloves kind of are weapons. Oh, they also used the chains +Fire bending Zuko, nuff said. I feel like the Yuuan Archers could use their weapons and bend at the same time The explosives guy from the rough rhinos THere was also that one guy with the two chain hammers ... but he didn't fire bend i think. +Air bending Glider staff I'm sure Kyoshi's fans actually helped her air bend. Aang has mentioned an Air sword +Water bending I've got nothing Sooo, what Ideas do you lot have? I'm more than interested to hear your ideas and opinions. And if I've missed anything please fill me in. Thanks a lot everyone, cant wait to see what you throw my way.

You know, I thought about that too, those bending-assisted weapons stuff. So here are few I've thought of.
Leather Staff - A long leather bag, about three meters long, filled with water. A waterbender uses waterbending to control the water inside the leather staff and use it to grab or strike one's opponent. Has advantage over regular waterbending in that the leather cover provides stronger grip and the water inside is protected from premature evaporation (especially useful against firebenders). The user can also freeze the water inside the staff to instantly turn it into a solid bludgenoning weapon.
War Disc - An airbending-controlled weapon, it is basically a wooden frisbee fitted with a band of sharpend metal ring on the outside edge. The user flings this deadly projectlie toward one's opponent, using airbending to quickly manipulate the disc's speed and direction in unpredictable manner as to catch the enemy off-guard.
Battle Shovel - Basically, a shovel. I thought it would be fitting for earthbenders, with the digging and all. The blade is made of durable crystal of the user's choice and the handle is usually made of hardened wood or meal, but some master earthbenders have been known to prefer handles made of pure granite. The shovel blade may be enlarged and sharpened for close-combat purposes.
Book of Yo Mama Jokes - An inflammatory manual designed to enrage a firebending reader and thereby enhance his/her firebending power. It is made of tough fire-retardant fiber to prevent accidental burning and/or ripping. Some of its materials may not be suitable for children under 15. Parental discretion is advised.

Well, I had an idea for a hollow boomerang filled with water that the water benders can control directional wise (not that Sokka would need this ) but I've got nothing for the other elements . . .

Not exactly a wepon as such but Firebenders and airbenders cud hav ickle mini aeroplanes
Airbenders cud bend air through the jets and firebenders assuming they were powerful enough cud hav like the rocket jets on the harrior aircraft.....

First, when I think of how bending works in conjunction with weapons, I consider it in terms of how weapons work in real martial arts. Using a weapon does not enhance one's ability to fight, but it does provide an advantage in terms of energy focus and reach. If you watch someone throw a punch closely, maybe in slow motion, you may notice that they press their feet against the ground slightly. This connection with the ground produces kinetic energy that then travels up the body and is channeled out with a punch or chop. Although a karate chop can do damage, no matter how strong it is it isn't going to cut someone. Making the same motion with a sword can cut someone with the same amount of kinetic energy because all that energy is focused on to a smaller point, the blade of the sword. I think the energy that allows a bender to shoot fire or air out of their hands works the same way. In other words, the swords do not make Zuko a better bender or amplify his power, but he can perhaps focus his fireblasts better through them or send the blasts farther. That's just my general theory on how weapons work with bending. That's very similar to a real kung fu weapon. I think it's called the Meteor Hammer. LOL

Benders typically use their hands and feet only. The only reason Zuko is so good with broadswords is so that he can fight well without having to firebend. Aang's glider is a bit of a trinket really.
However:
Water- A rapier or katana. Can adjust quickly to situations and adapt like waterbending
Fire- A broadsword. Huge powerful attacks designed to pre-empt enemy attacks
Air- Daggers. Swift and mobile
Earth- Mace. Strong and steady
if you noticed, water and fire weapons are opposites, and air and earth weapons are opposites. Make sense, huh?

The Yu Yang Archers weren'y firebenders if I am correct. They were just really good warriors. I also noticed Aang mentioned something about a Wind Sword in the episode Sokka's Master. Where it is just a handle, and he has to airbend in order to make the blade. Sounds almost like a lightsaber to me.

I can definately agree with the leather staff concept... and as for the "ickle planes" they kind of have that with the gliders and zuko's hot air balloon boat thing. I can't really jive with any of the air nomad weapon ideas so far, because they are all like lethal force... he nomads don't really try to kill things... so... yeah.
also, the rapier is a western weapon, and wouldn't actually add anything to the bending discipline... but maybe a chinese longsword, I only say that because tai chi, the art on which waterbending is based, has a form that uses the longsword..

Bump... Guys Don't let this thread die I know you've got some good ideas, I'm sure some of you have an OC that uses a weapon and bends? right?

Bump... Guys Don't let this thread die I know you've got some good ideas, I'm sure some of you have an OC that uses a weapon and bends? right? *groans* please don't bump. If your thread dies it's because nobody has anything (left) to say about it. It's happens to all threads eventually And let's face it, in every bending showdown (Katara vs. Pakku (TWM), Zuko vs. Katara (SotN) etc.) they've only used their hands. I don't think weapons are typically used in combination with bending. I suppose you could use most weapons in combination with bending. The only weapon that is truly a bending weapon is the Air Sword.

I don't think the Waterbenders would have any weapons they can use with their bending. I don't know why, it just doesn't seem like it would work to me.

well for earthbending i always thought a rock sword would be really effective for both throwing and um...slashing and hacking

Earth - BIG HAMMER!
Fire - Twin Swords, Knives, European Broadsword, Bow and Arrow
Water - Epee, Rapier, Katana, Kunai.
Air - Staff, Bo, Halberd, Fans, Guns (concentrated air shots would own...)

Well for Earthbending and Firebending...metal objects would be useful for different reasons. Metal, as we've seen is a form of Earth, and although Toph is the only one we've seen metalbend it is possible to make more impurities with say a sword and bend it in a battle. As for Firebending, the metal could be heated and used as a weapon in that respect.

We know that the Glider Aang uses is a tool in his bending; because his body would not have enough surface area to carry him alone. His tunic is designed with an umbrella-like feature which allows him to land slowly, for example. Fans or the Glider may increase the surface area needed to guide the wind, allowing for more precision.
Firebenders can use their fire to complement their weaponry. For example, lighting arrows on fire, or flaming swords which deter using wristguards to block.
For Earthbending or Waterbending, a hollow metal weapon containing the relevant elementcould be extremely useful. It allows for medium-distance re-arming of a dropped weapon, an un-meltable blade, or guidable projectile.
