We know many martial artists get injured while training, and the nature of their injuries often correspond to the type of martial arts they practice. Shin injuries for Muay Thai practitioners, kunckle/wrist injuries for boxers, back injuries for wrestlers, etc etc.
So my question is, what kind of injuries or sicknesses do you think were most common among different kinds of benders? Feel free to make up whatever kind of illness/disease you like. And if there are any premeds on this board I'd very much appreciate your participations.
Anyway, here are my guesses.
Waterbending - Frostbites and freeze burns due to reckless use of ice techniques. Also I could see some accidental internal damages caused by careless healing applications.
Earthbending - Lots of bruises, broken bones, and crushed digits. And various back and knee injuries that are common among people who practice grappling arts.
Firebending - Burns of various digrees, obviously. Also this is something I kinda made up, but perhaps some firebenders suffered from overheating? Like too much fire in their system and not enough outlet. And if they didn't manage to cool off in time, they will develop a severe fever and if left untreated long enough they will spontaneously combust or something.
Airbending - Respiratory disorder due to accidently forcing too much air into their lung? Also lots of falls among inexperienced airbenders. And for some reason I could imagine airbenders being especially susceptible to various kinds of airborn allergens (don't know why, I think I just like to picture airbenders sneezing).

Ah, I must disagree. I bet airbenders have super-lungs with awesome filtration systems, while firebenders suffer from breathing problems with all that smoke and CO 2 But humans can overheat, so I definitely bet that'd be a real problem for firebenders. That reminds me of a book my sister read where this scientist [that no one took seriously b/c of his farfetched theories] believed that humans that spontaneously combust could secretly control fire and not know that they could and BOOM. Sounds like an inexperienced firebender XD

I would think that maybe not an injurie, but earthbenders would be calloused very severely. and firebenders must smell of smoke all the time, and be covered in soot... like they should be at least and waterbenders, all pruny as if they were in the tub too long.

Ah, good point about firebenders with breathing problems. Maybe they went to airbending healers to have their lungs and sinuses cleared out during the pre-war era.

yeah, I could see firebenders being particularly susceptible to heat stress or heat stroke, either due to retaining the heat energy in their bodies too long or just from fighting too many agni kais in an equatorial country.

ah heat stroke is already unbearable as a mere mortal, i wonder what it's like to have a firebender-like heat stroke D:

I disagree with the waterbending-healing accidents. I believe waterbending only catalyzes the natural healing of a person, as to make it faster or more efficient. So I'm not quite sure how that might be harmful (I mean unless they cause a tumor or something)

Perhaps a very inexperienced waterbender that lacks significant control over their element could unintentionally bend the fluid in their ears and throw off their balance, which in turn could cause a number of other injuries as a result of the extreme dizziness. Not mention lots of vomiting...

Well, airbenders probably have very sore lungs from all those Breaths of Wind
and firebenders would actually suffer from hypothermia (lower than normal body temperature). They use their internal body heat to produce the fire for bending, and therefore the outside of their body heats up, but the inside cools down.

^I guess that would make sense, if they used up all their fire or something... but I think heat stroke would be more likely to happen.

Not mention lots of vomiting... That seems like they would have the capacity to control something so very specific and small, and if they're inexperienced, I doubt they could do that. Interesting thought though, it would be highly damaging for someone to suffer an accident such as that.

Well it could be possible for an infant to self-inflict that type of injury due to the total lack of control over body function, but if that were so many other body-liquid based injuries could occur some of which could probably be far more severe.

I don't know about infants injuring their internal organs with their bending, I always thought that one would have to be a strong and skilled bender to even try bending internal fluids.

I think this is a good point. I mean maybe yes bender do ACTUALLY get injured while training. I actually don't think too many injuries could be caused by Airbending, at first I thought maybe from falling but if you think about when Aang falls. He always creates air pressure under him so the fall is basically avoided..

It may be possible that a bender may burn-out his/her bending due to excessive usage of bending. It may cause really serious psychological problems.
