Thread for episode three, airing Saturday the 21st. "Korra tries to gain access to the Equalist movement and its secretive leader."

I will say this: When Sozin's Comet aired, I never liked how Aang handled Ozai. Something about reaching in and messing with someone else's soul against their will just didn't sit right with me, and evil man or not, somebody should've been creeped out about it. If not Sokka, then definately Toph. However, I seemed to've been the only one in the fandom that felt that way.
Amon's little demonstration makes me feel a little vindicated.
On a (hopefully) more light-hearted note: I realize it may be a bit early to start shipping, but that bit with Mako and Korra asleep in the park brought me lolz.

I LOVE this show. Omg. I'm all-in, baby. The creating-non-benders thing is such a great idea. Considering it was how Aang won the war (and no worries K9, I was also a little uncomfortable with the way he did it), it adds a whole new level to the dark side of this.
Also, I wonder if Mako has issues dealing with the fact that he's a firebender when a firebender took his parents. And if that might be something that comes up later between him and Amon. I wonder if Amon will try to lean him over to the other side at some point.

This was a great episode and I agree with goten I'm officially a huge fan now. I've fallen in love with this show independent of the last series.
Mako and Korra are too cute together, I loved how they reacted to waking up together in the park. They seem to make a great team as well. I liked that we got to find out what happened to Mako and Bolin's parents and I also wonder if the fact that they were killed by a bender will come into play later.
I'm really enjoying the whole set up of Ammon, his power to take away bending does definitely bring up some interesting debates about Aang taking Ozai's bending. I really hope we find out exactly how he was granted that power. I like how the lines between good and evil aren't so clearly drawn in the sand in this series. Both sides are doing things that puts in the category of "bad guys".
Also on a side note Pabu is absolutely adorable. xD

I like how the lines between good and evil aren't so clearly drawn in the sand in this series. I definitely agree. I can't even express the conflicts that are going on into words. Is it wrong that I kind of feel sorry for Amon? Though, part of me does not really buy into his testimony about what happened to his face and what happened to his father. If it's true, and he wasn't using that story for Equalist propaganda just so he can rally support for his anti-bender revolution (think Hitler?) then I can understand why he would feel that way. (Fire benders just keep taking the heat huh? ) But to target an entire community of benders, and not just one bending element? That's tough stuff. Plus, the Triple Threat Triads certainly put a bad rep on everything Zuko, Aang and the rest of the gang did for the world, and now there's a civil war brewing in Republic City. Oh the irony. I'm excited to see how Zuko's role as an "unofficial" peace ambassador will come into play during this revolution. Perhaps Tenzin and the other council members will seek his assistance? This is some heavy politics we're getting into!

Wow, definitely more mature themes going on in this series. I'm almost in disbelief I mean everything about Avatar: The Last Airbending was revolved around bending and now this Ammon guy has the ability to take all of it away? That's like a nightmare and apparently exactly how Korra sees it as well. Still something in me is telling me that Korra could never have her bending taken away considering she is the Avatar and the bridge between both worlds.
I'm speculating at this point but I imagine Korra will have her bending taken away eventually and in that state will still have to find a way to defeat Ammon. Or maybe it will be like the third X-Men movie in which taking away their powers was not so permanent in the end. At any rate Aang has some explaining to do.

Oh man, what a great episode! I am really loving these characters now. Especially Bolin, so cute! I love that he has a bit of Sokka Flair but is still his own character, and that goes for Mako too. With the brooding aspect I thought he was going to mostly be a Zuko clone, but he's quite his own character too. I'm also glad that he told what happened to his parents, but it sounds so Batman-ish, I also wonder if he will defect later on to Amon's side. I can certainly see the allure, but bending or not people will still find ways to hurt each other. But energybending the fight out of people is more Firefly territory. Amon and the Equalists are shaping up to be quite scary, and I was amazed by how many supporters were in that warehouse. Doesn't seem like it will be an underground movement for much longer. Amon's backstory is interesting, but I agree it might be just a propaganda story. Maybe he knew someone that went through that, and took the story as his own. The mask hides his identity, and makes it easier for sympathizers to insert their own experience. Pabu is so much cuter in animation than in stills, I can't even. I want! I spotted the Feathered Hat Man twice in this episode too, so hopefully that does mean he'll be the Where's Waldo/Kuroneko of the show. I wonder if it's just an easter egg, or if there's a bigger purpose like he's a spy or a reporter and that's why he shows up everywhere. I hope the show won't go on break soon, I definitely need more.

I guess I was too enveloped in Korra's "badarsery." ;D I like that theory of him, perhaps he will serve a greater purpose than we think. Looks like I'll have to re-watch to find out where he is. edit: My best friend joined me in on that theory, and said that Feathered Hat Man could be a White Lotus body guard in disguise. lol!

Yeah, it's funny how the characters in Korra would at first glance remind you of characters in ATLA, but they all really do have their own personalities.

Yup, he was leaving the Protester stand in the park as Korra and Mako walked up to it in the morning, and then later in the warehouse crowd he was to the right side of Mako, before Amon went on stage. A White Lotus guard, that would be cool! Since Tenzin is concerned about the movement, it would make sense for them to have some undercover agents keeping tabs. It also does seem like Feathered Hat Man appears in a lot of the anti-bending scenes.
I also want to add that the hats Korra and Mako were wearing were really cute too. xD

Thanks for the heads up! I'll be keeping an eye out. I hope to spot FHM in future episodes. & I agree, Mako and Korra's outfits were definitely adorable! And how about Korra wearing his scarf during the Revelation rally? :3 *end Makorra fangirling*

I'm also glad that he told what happened to his parents, but it sounds so Batman-ish Why do I have this sudden urge to draw Mako and Bolin as Batman and Nightwing? (Nightwing being the grownup first Robin and Batman's equal).

Actually thinking over some things I fear Amon might try to kill off Korra for good? Even if she gets her bending taken away and becomes helpless once she dies there will be a new Avatar and then Amon will have another opponent to worry about. The only way to truly win would be to kill her while she's in the Avatar state.

Crazy already! Gotta love Bryke and their fantabulous plots! They have that Christopher Nolan (Batman Dark Knight) insight in their stories.
I never expected the spirit bending to come back into play because I figured Aang never taught it to anyone. I mean, who else would need to know how to do it. And although it made sense why Aang did it, (he was just a child expected to kill someone) now, I'm kind of on the fence with both sides. That's great storytelling.
I'm glad Bolin not a Sokka incarnate and Mako isn't a Zuko/Jet incarnate, though Jet's story is kind of recycled into Mako's. Wasn't Jet eight when the FN killed his parents?
